"Hyperthyroidism is defined as elevated Thyroid Hormones (TH) in circulation. Thyroid hormones are important hormones in fetal development and also metabolism. So high thyroid hormone levels as you can imagine will amp up metabolism to a point where it becomes pathological. Hyperthyroidism and thyrotoxicosis refers to the same thing really. However some define hyperthyroidism specifically as increased synthesis of thyroid hormones where as thyrotoxicosis refers to the clinical syndrome of excess circulating thyroid hormones, irrespective of the source. In this video hyperthyroidism will mean high levels of thyroid hormones in circulation causing the signs and symptoms of hyperthyroidism.
Understanding the physiology of the thyroid gland, the hypothalamic, pituitary thyroid axis is important to understanding hyperthyroidism
thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) stimulates the synthesis and secretion of thyroid-stimulating hormone, TSH), which acts at the thyroid to stimulate all steps of TH biosynthesis and secretion. The THs thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) control the secretion of TRH and TSH by negative feedback to maintain physiological levels of the main hormones of the HPT axis.
In hyperthyroidism there is elevation of circulating TH this means there will be a negative feedback loop causing a decrease in TRH and TSH"

I'm super glad that you are doing your research. My son was diagnosed with NF1. If that hadn't happened I wouldn't have become a nurse, and I wouldn't be on Armando's youtube channel watching his video so that I can continue on my next step in higher nursing. Crazy how one moment can change everything! Take your moment, girlfriend, and run with it! So proud that you are learning about it instead of letting others tell you what you "need to do" now. So proud. Good luck!

5 weeks ago my FT4 was 12. Now it is 64. (Upper lab limit is 22). What would cause such a quick increase? I feel awful; nausea, vomiting, shaky limbs, super hot, fast resting heart rate of 110bpm. I had 10 days of breast cancer radiation after DCIS in breast diagnosed and after a large area lumpectomy with LICAP reconstruction. Could the breast radiation have played a part? I've had several Hpyerthyroid episodes since my first child was born 17 years ago. Endo though it was graves disease triggered by post partum... But no spells for past 7 years. I'm the worst i have ever been now and I've been hospitalised by it in the past.

Is it normal to have extreme fatigue with hyperthyroidism. The doctor said I was definitely hyper and my levels were quite high. Didn't ask for the numbers as i didn't feel the need. In general, the cause is a lack of nutritional intake in the form of iodine or iodine. It can occur after consuming large amounts of iodine which induces a mild enzymatic disorder which causes inhibition of hormone synthesis in the thyroid gland. Other causes can include: - Radiation used to treat certain types of cancer - Medicines used to treat hyperthyroidism - Gene mutation with expression in the form of thyroperoxidase, a heme-binding enzyme found in the tyrocyte membrane. - Mutation of the DEHAL1 gene with an expression in the form of iodothyrosine deiodinase, an enzyme that takes iodine molecules from the residue of iodothyrosine compounds for hormone biosynthesis by the thyroid gland. Some of the common symptoms of hyperthyroidism are fatigue, muscle cramps, depression, pallor, goiter, osteoporosis, and lack of sweating. Patients experience decreased heart rate, decreased contraction power and diastolic function, decreased cardiac output and increased systemic vascular resistance; which causes an increase in diastolic pressure and a decrease in systolic pressure. The sooner you start, the sooner you can restore your health. And that's what you want, right? For more information, please visit: ♠_♣ tinyurl.com/fstyhtrye?fesgzreaw > ♠_♣

A month ago I could lift my legs out of bed. After a lot of struggle, finally got to the hospital. Elevated T4, very low potassium, clean MRI, clean auto-immune disease results. None of the 4 doctors I saw a month ago mentioned iodine, so I assume my levels were appropriate? Went on Methimazole for a month, but at least 20 of the past days one of two scenarios would happen. In the morning seemingly random muscle groups (although never biceps, back, or shoulders) would experience near paralysis from the moment I woke for about 3-5 hours. These muscles wouldn't ever be in pain until I tried to move joints associated with the muscle. I'd be able to move these joints 1/10th or so of their normal range before they'd just hit a wall where no matter how much I forced it, the joint wouldn't move any further. The other possibility for the day was in the evening, seemingly random muscle groups (although never the back or abs) would behave as if I went very heavy at the gym on these muscles the day before. I'd have full mobility with these muscle groups, they just were incredibly fatigued. Highly elevated heart rate throughout all of this, although it's certainly possible this elevated heart rate existed for at least a short time before the hospital visit a month ago. Blood pressure has been perfect throughout. Currently waiting on a new set of blood work and a call from the endocrinologist. Given that the reason I searched this video is because the paralysis happened again this morning two days after my last Methimazole, seems likely that medication did nothing for me. Male, 39.

I potentially have multiple problems with my thyroid and can certify that thyroid problems are awful and frustrating and difficult to diagnose sometimes. :/ It's been about 6 months since I was first found to have hyperthyroidism, and I still don't have a concrete diagnosis of what is going on. I could have two issues going on. And taking six tablets a day of a beta blocker just to mask some of the symptoms is a bit annoying.

I’m confused about myself, I’m 15 and my thyroid level a year ago was 2.5 which my doctor said is very high and I should be extremely skinny because of how fast my metabolism should be. A little while after I started losing weight but in the span of 2 months I only lost 36 pounds. I was 154 previously (I’m 5’7 so I’m not obese) so yes I became slim. After a while I noticed I gained 20 pounds very quickly (4 months after) I figured that my thyroid hormone was either becoming normal or running out. I wanted to find out so I got retested about a week ago and I figured out that my thyroid is at 1.8 which is still high but not as severe as it used to be. Even at the current level that it is my doctor said I should be very skinny. I haven’t lost any weight in a while Infact I gain weight easily. I don’t have an autoimmune either so I’m very confused? Why would it ever cause weight gain?

I’m not a doctor, but if you’re 15 then you’ve still got a lot of growing to do, it will likely fluctuate anyway until you’re fully grown, thyroid issues may cause more fluctuations too, but it’s good to keep a record and go back to the doctors if it’s drastic changes :)
@kiraPh1234k

"in the span of 2 months I only lost 36 pounds." That is extremely fast weight loss. More than twice what is considered healthy to lose in that period of time. That's near 4.5 pounds per week, which is about how much you can expect to lose with a 2250 calorie deficit every day, that is extreme. I'm 5'6" and 170lbs, putting my BMR at about 1750 calories and if I had a sedentary life, about 2100 calories per day to maintain that weight. My activity level puts it closer to 2700-3000/day to maintain my weight. To lose 4.5 lbs per week I would have to add in 2250 calories of exercise in every day, or eat only ~750 calories per day or some combination of the two, but any such combination is extreme. I know elevated TH increases your BMR, but I only mean to point out how extreme it sounds to say that you "only" lost 4.5lbs per week.

even if your organism needs bigger amount of calories, and you provide the surplus of them, you gain weight. Some people may need 2200, if they eat 2100 then they lose weight,yet you may need 2600, you eat 2700, you gain weight.

@@kiraPh1234k Yeah it was really fast lol idk what I was talking about. My thyroids are pretty normal now which I'm happy about because my anxiety and nausea is significantly lower. I did regain some of the weight and I am at 144 pounds now so I'm on a healthy diet to reach my goal and I honestly still lose weight really quickly when I diet. I lose 2-5 pounds a week but I'm not starving I'm just slightly lowering my calorie intake and eating healthier. I think the reason why I had thyroid fluctuations was because of puberty. Not long after I turned 13 (I'm now 16) I gained so much weight I think I was almost 20 pounds overweight and that lasted until I was well into being 14 then it suddenly switched, and I had high thyroid. Thank God I'm normal now.
