For anyone struggling to see newly installed language (had this problem on macOS Ventura 13.6.3 + Affinity Publisher 2.3.0). Just copy files mentioned in the video (PLUS hyph_cs_CZ.dic - so three files altogether) into created cs_CZ folder. Restart Publisher and tada! now you can see it in the Language/Hyphenation menu 🙂.

Great! How does it work in Affinity Publisher for iPad? It seems it does, but I have not been successful in activating hyphenation for Czech (= čeština), apparently only spelling for that language. Any help?

I try to see if affinity publisher is good for me, i try to use the greek hyphenation as mentioned for windows and it says unkown language. For libre office it is ok. Any suggestions?

Hi, it doesn't work for me, I have MacBook Air M2 with latest Ventura update and the latest Affinity Publisher 2. I've been going thru this video serval times and still no use, it doesn't show me Czech hyphenation in Language section. Any idea what am I doing wrong?

I must say I am very surprised that Affinity does not deliver these languages themselves! What idiocy to have to do it manually like this and the person seems to be in a hurry to catch the last bus home. Otherwise, why talk at such a crazy speed?! InDesign is something to learn from, Mr. and Mrs, and Miss Affinity!

Hi @Peterwilson9699, Most dictionaries are already supported in the Affinity applications by default. The video above is if you would like to instal a custom dictionary for specific languages. Judging from your comment though, I assume the language you want to use wasn't' among the defaults. We always welcome feedback. Feel free to jump over to the Affinity Forum and raise a new thread. Someone from the team will be able to get in touch and see if we can improve the process. In terms of the video speed remember KZbin allows you to adjust/ reduce the speed. So if the videos too fast for you, you can always drop the speed to 0.75 or even 0.5 to make things easier. Alternatively this process is listed in our extensive 'Help' documentation if you would prefer to read about it instead.

I installed the dictionaries, I can see the languege and the hypenations as well but it won't apply to the text no matter what I do. Does anyone know what can be the problem?

Hi @sorottya Thank you for your question. I'm sorry to hear you've been struggling to get the alternative dictionaries to work. When copying the files across into Publisher afterwards did you restart the program? When changing the spelling option using the language tab (on the character panel), do you have the text frame(s) selected you want to change at the same time? Alternatively have you changed the default language in the system settings folder?

It is a SHAME that Affinity does not have dictionaries pre-installed! A SHAME! I have the same problem as you have so I skipped Affinity and chose InDesign instead. The Adobe guys know how to handle these matters!

Unfortunately, with me (macOS Sonoma) this trick does not work.... It's all about the Polish language.

Hi @thalgonis, sorry to hear it's not worked. Did restarting the application after transferring the files help? If it's still not working, head over to the Affinity Forum and raise a new thread and someone from the team will be in touch.
