Series: "Cardfight! Vanguard" Episodes: "Link Joker Arc"(126 to 165). This episode in particular is the 150 "Smash Through Everything!!" The whole arc revolves around mind control. Invaders from outer space called "Link Joker" have started their attack and they are mind controlling humans to do their bidding. The fighters who have lost to Link Joker become "Reverse Fighters" or "servants of the void" and when they defeat another fighter they also will turn into Reverse Fighters. The only way to turn them back to normal is by defeating them. When they are mind controlled their ace cards also become mind controlled and turn into a dark version.

This arc reminds me to the Season 2 of Yu Gi Oh GX, specifically the Society of Light arc, in that many card duelists ended under some mind control, and to set them free, they must be defeated.

Also if you are interested the creatures from the cards also get mind controlled. They have their official novel where they explain their own version of the story of how the card become mind controlled. Is a very good reading, the lore of the cards can be found in the wikia.

Wish more anime with hypnosis focused on the actual trancing a bit more instead of treating it like a nuisance to get through. I like to see a bit of struggle, it makes the drop more memorable.

I agree, but it’s also interesting to watch a ‘good’ character do bad things because of the hippo or brainwashing. Then to see the friends reaction is also interesting.
