Ross goes so quickly from “I’m sorry, I was wrong, that was a stupid mistake” to “I did nothing wrong, we were on a break.“ I get that people have their own opinions about the Ross/Rachel situation, but I can understand the situation from her perspective. Even if she did want to break up with him or he really thought they were broken up, Ross sleeping with someone else so quickly would be painful. And then him trying to cover it up just makes it worse. I feel like it would have been better if he’d just owned it and said “I thought we were broken up, I was super upset and drunk, and I made a mistake.” That would’ve been the adult thing to do.

THIS. like whether they were on a break was never really the issue for me, it was how Ross handled the situation in general. if he had just understood and owned up to how much he had hurt Rachel in the first place, I truly think she would have found a way to forgive him. but he kept making it all about him and how he felt, never once really thinking about Rachel's feelings.

Yeah my issue is that HE thought it was a wrong thing to do, and tried to cover it up and lie. Then he apologised that it was awful and terrible, and then only gets mad that she doesn't forgive him - therefore he's not that sorry. That's my main issue. Also on the phone doesn't she say she doesn't want a break and then Ross decides to assume things and hangs up? Ross left it unknown, did something he didn't like that he did, and got annoyed that he wasn't immediately forgiven. So, I think it was a bad thing to do, because even Ross agreed he shouldn't have. Not to mention accusing her of not fighting for their relationship when all he did right after she said that they should take a break is to immediately walk out the door and tell his friends that the relationship is ending. He put up way more effort at going around town to hide the truth from her b/c he already knew that he can't get out of his mistake on the technicality of a break. Demanding to be forgiven? The question of consent can be somewhat iffy, and the teacher has a responsibility to be professional. However, in the case of Frank and Alice it is clearly a case of them being in love, and Frank is very clear on what he wants. Yes, Alice should not have engaged in that relationship, and probably should be fired for it, because that's not okay for a teacher - but the relationship in and of itself is perfectly fine. Remember Phoebes brother is a bit unique, what he meant when he said "I was older when we first got together" is that each day he is one day older than the day before, so if they met 1 month ago he is now 1 month older than back then 😂 Hypnosis does work, but the person getting hypnotized must usually be susceptible to it.. The "handshake induction" is one of the most interesting techniques, u should check it out John Favro wasn't famous until after Friends, he had been in a few things before only but not very known yet Ross had the best comeback when Carol said "You slept with another woman!?", he said "You are one to talk..", because she slept with another woman 😂
@LadyDoomsinger11 ай бұрын
Hypnosis varies greatly depending on the person doing it, the person being exposed to it, and the specific circumstances of the situation. But as far as I know it's not actually so drastic as playing wipeout on your butt cheeks. It's more of a "nudge" in a certain direction or state of mind - in the case of smoking, hypnosis can reduce the level of craving you feel, but it doesn't just magically make you stop smoking... Or turn you into a woman. That's just for the comedy. In any case where a person is "hypnotized" to do something out of character, it usually just comes down to them playing along with the act, or even subconsciously thinking that they "should" play along because it's expected - basically like a kind of peer pressure. They are actually aware of what they are doing.
@Heida77 Жыл бұрын
As much as Frank and Alice seem to be in love, that whole relationship is just creepy. And more because Alice was his teacher than the age difference. It's the power imbalance. He was her student and she took advantage of that. And it's also likely they started the relationship before he turned 18. Some would consider that grooming. Plus, the way Frank acts seems like he may be mentally impaired. Or maybe he's just eccentric and naive like Phoebe. But do a gender swap where it's an 18 year old girl marrying her 44 year old male teacher. That's just gross. It's not mentioned here but in 1x03 "The One with the Thumb" Phoebe gives Chandler $7000 as long as he never smokes again. So naturally he should have had to give her the money back. Writer/creator/executive producer Marta Kauffman is the voice on the hypnosis tape that Rachel gives to Chandler to help him quit smoking. Jon Favreau had started to get known at this time. He had had small parts in a few movies. Then he starred with Vince Vaughn in Ruby in 1993, which started a great friendship between them and they would work together a lot after that. In 1996 he wrote and produced his breakthrough film Swingers, which they starred in together. And in 2006 he starred with Vince and Jennifer Aniston, who were a couple at the time, in The Break-Up.

Ross legitimately thought Rachel broke up with him and moved on to Mark. The morning after, Rachel literally told Monica her and Ross had “broken up.” When Rachel shows up to Ross’ apartment, she literally says, “Can I be your girlfriend AGAIN.” So it’s kind of weird that everyone says Ross cheated when they were both in complete agreement that it was 100% over, at least until Rachel changed her mind. Ross worshipped Rachel and never would’ve gotten with Chloe if he thought Rachel hadn’t 100% broken up with him and moved on to Mark. And even so, it took alcohol and convincing from Chloe.

Favereau, by that point, had written and starred in a successful independent film called "Swingers", and anyone who knew who he was would know him from that, but "Swingers" didn't have the cultural penetration of an indy film like "Pulp Fiction", So he was mostly just a successful supporting actor who was getting recurring roles on sitcoms. Hypnosis is basically just a form of enhanced peer pressure, and works on the same principle: If you can reinforce that a certain behavior or action is "expected" in a person, they will often be more likely to engage in that behavior, even subconsciously. It does not take away their will or awareness of the things they do, it just "nudges" them in a certain direction you want. In the case of smoking, it can reduce your level of craving, but it doesn't just magically make you stop smoking... Or turn you into a woman. That was just for the comedy. Also, it tends to be more effective the more you believe it is real, because you'll be more primed to accept the suggestions of the hypnotist if you think his methods actually work.

Not funny at all. Now I feel strong, lost weight and can go for long walks into nature without or can run on the bus without caughing like crazy. 🙂

I have changed my mind growing up through the years on Rachel & Ross. It was wrong going to another woman so quickly but she did say they were on a break. I'm still convinced this is what the future western wars will be fought over. Pro Ross vs Pro Rachel

When "Friends" was originally cast, Jon Favreau auditioned for the role of Chandler. I don't know how much listening to a hypnosis tape while you sleep works, but my sister went to a hypnotherapist to quit smoking when she was pregnant, and it worked for several months. I went to a hypnotherapist and also listened to a tape (while awake) to prepare for childbirth, and that helped a lot with the birth. Ironically, since I had a high-risk pregnancy, we had to go to Johns Hopkins hospital, which is world renown, and that day, so many women were giving birth, they pulled the Head of the OBGYN Department out of his office to do my delivery, and it turned out that his wife is a hypnotherapist, so he was cool with what we were doing. Ross' attitude about hypnosis just shows someone can me technically smart, but close minded, limiting their overall intelligence. Plus, the fact that Rachel suggested it and he's mad at her because, he cheated on her and she has the self-respect not to forgive him for his atrocious behavior, makes him more likely to be snarky about hypnosis. In short, Ross is a man-child who should be ignored.

Hi Thor yes, when I was a professional musician two of the members were engaged and had a mortgage, we were very close and when they broke up it was quite traumatic, who's side do you support? Especially when other details appear from the woodwork?? A weird one

The comment about the crying Indian is about in the 1970s people were out and about and they didn't have so many garbage cans public garbage cans around people would just throw their litter everywhere. It got so bad that they made a commercial with the crying Indian on top of a mountain looking down at the valley of all the garbage

sorry but.. as bad a thing Ross did, I think Rachel wasn't a good girlfriend, and all their friends dismissed Ross's feelings until it was too late except for Joey and Chandler, who gave him bad advice, but were at least trying to help

He did not cheat they where on a break!!?
@Nikki-oe7gr Жыл бұрын
Ross cheated on her after she said she was glad he called, thereby making it clear she didn't even want to be on a break. He had a temper tantrum because Mark was there, instead of going to Rachel and working it out. Plus, even if they would've been on a break, a break is not the same as breaking up and doesn't mean he could have sex with some random woman hours later.

@@Nikki-oe7grthere’s no such thing as a “break” from a relationship in the first place, and both Ross and Rachel literally called it a breakup in the previous episode. What Ross did was idiotic but also understandable, but he did not cheat.

Just a preference but I’m not a fan any “coming up” clips or previews. Like, I’m already watching the video. Maybe I’m in the minority.

They broke up. Ross didnt cheat on her. was it right? Ofc not. Who moves on that fast? He is right though. Also Ross walked Carol down the isle. A bit more understanding?

Sadly, this is when Ross became really infuriatingly childish and petty. And he stayed that way.
