Hypro Sprayer Pump Failure - Again

Once again the Hypro pump on our sprayer has failed. Video shows the replacement and compares the new pump to the old.

Thanks for the vid. I've been having problems with my Hypro's the past few years too. Makes me feel better I'm not the only one. The first Silvercast 6500 lasted 4 yrs and I was very impressed. The next one lasted 2 yrs and it was "cleaned" with a tank rinse and not just rinsed with water every month as with the first one. Have had cast iron ones last 1-2 yrs without Round-Up and using the tank rinse on a regular basis. Decided to try an 8 roller too, but a cast iron one for now. I like the coupler better too. Hypro gives them a high end hour rating. Swap that number for gallons and divide by 2 is what I'm getting the past cpl yrs. I spray on average 3,000 gallons each year consisting of 2,4-D based broadleaf herbicides, algaecide and aquatic herbicides, and some Round-Up. I am glad you shared this! I use the same blue cast iron pump, though have not had as many issues as you have had. I am happy to see there is an upgraded pump. Next pump failure I have, I will buy the silver one!

Same thing happened to me over and over. 3 or 4 of them just like thwt. Finally bought the premium silver nitrate series and havent had an issue since.

We've had good results with the Silver Series Pump. I'm using it for a boomless sprayer that sprays a 48 foot swath. It works fairly well. I like those flags! We have ours flying on our farm.

Thx. My brother has a boomless sprayer and likes it. I’m considering a 200-300 gallon sprayer with both booms and boomless nozzles for some of our rougher pasture. I bought 4 new flags this year, should have all of them flying soon.

Hey I put RV antifreeze in my pumps after every use and my current hypro pump is finishing up its fourth year of use. I do a lot of herbicides, insecticide and fungicide spraying every year.

Based on how you described the issue in the video, it sounds like the problem is with The liquid fertilizer that you are using. These are the 2 elements that’s effecting the pump , IRON AND PHOSPHORUS. Even stainless steel can not resist against these two! Another thing, the pump that you are using it’s meant for water not chemicals. Blue pump is for water and silver pump for different types of solutions.

We are not using any fertilizer through these pumps, nor do I state that in the video. These pumps are designed to pump more than water, including herbicides. Hypro even gives the lifespan of the pump when using herbicides for the blue pumps.

Those pumps only last 1 to 2 years. Use the nickle one and change the rollars every year

Aren’t you supposed to use water pump grease on those cast iron pumps? Mine has a grease zert hole but no zert.

That hole is a drain, not for a grease fitting.

It says right on the pump, flush with oil after use.

Yep and it doesn’t work. Cast iron pumps rust.

@@HumbleHaymakers My pump is 7 years old and never rusted enough to hurt it, I replaced the rollers once. But you are right they do rust and read the label on the product you are spraying, some are acid and some are not. Acid products require plastic brass or stainless pumps.

RV anti-freeze for me since mine is not stored in a heated shop for the winter. My pumps quit from use, not a winter storage issue.

@@peacocklandmgmt3719 RV antifreeze will rust the pump, they say to use oil for a reason. At least use automotive antifreeze, it has rust inhibitor.

i take mine off and throw it in a bucket of oil and it still locks up!
