This is one of my observations during Pure Vanilla skill. He gives 3 types of shields (normal blue one, gold one like financier cookie, and a hit bar shield which is a new type) to the cookie with either lowest hp or highest atk. Regarding the meteor shower, I think it gives debuffs to the enemies while dealing damage.

If it is given to the cookie with the lowest HP, Pure Vanilla might actually be the counter to shadow milk cookie's skill which deals continuous damage and curse.

Usually when something says "next update" it means after the stuff of the upcoming update. In this case episode 8, awakened form, minigames and the magic candy as well as the town square stuff (icings and guild channel). Next update after the upcoming one will have the costumes the gacha of fate and the cake dungeon. I suggest you continue saving up your rainbow cubes so you can get the costumes, and continue saving your fate cookie cutters. Keep getting your resources as well.
