Here’s the thing-every large-scale catastrophe that occurs is completely new to the Kingdom. There is ample evidence of significant development _before_ the Calamity depicted in BotW, which appeared to kill a significant portion of the population. The map is dotted with ruined settlements, most notably Castle Town. When you combine the devastation of that event with the fact that the land has been full of monsters and ancient killbots that reincarnate every week for 100 continuous years, it becomes more understandable that they have struggled to develop-any large-scale projects are essentially impossible under such conditions. The majority of the populace has been reduced to subsistence, and it’s a constant struggle to keep your head above water. As many other comments note, they had barely a handful of years of peace to start recovering before the Upheaval, which was an entirely distinct set of disasters. While Hyrule’s leaders certainly could have made some better decisions, there is ample observable improvement by TotK. They have built massive towers, and (while unorthodox) the numerous distribution sites for building materials evidence a large ongoing logistical operation by Hudson’s. (It remains unclear to me why he has to advertise, though. He is literally the only game in town.) There is also structured, government-supported research into the Upheaval, the Depths, and Zonai technology, an improvement compared to the essentially non-functional government before. As to the adoption of Zonai technology, we should consider the obstacles they face. The main fuel for Zonai devices, Zonaite, is available only in the Depths, which have thus far proven too dangerous to mine in the modern era. And, as you allude to in the video, only Link has had Zonai technology explained in any way, and this by the literal spirit of an ancient god. If anything, the amount of progress made in that short time is remarkable, and indicates to me that Hyrule is on a very positive trajectory, even if it is not ideal. You’ve given us a lot to think about, and considering your Ganon’s Advocate view, along with those of the many responses, has been quite a bit of fun.

Did you forget that for 100+ years, there was a complete societal collapse? Hyrule as a country was destroyed in the Great Calamity, leaving independent villages to their own purposes. No one maintains the crumbling infrastructure because there is no one to maintain it. There was industry, as evidenced by the Exchange and Quarry ruins. However, this has been left in ruins, and the immediate danger has only subsided for around 5 years (only for another calamity-level event!). In short, there is no Hyrule to save.

@@Worlds-Withinwhile I do have to agree with you I would have to say that it would be hard for Hyrule to make many automated devices using Zonai tech because of the limited amount scattered throughout the world and the only way to get more is through the capsule machines, which require zonai charges or construct horns which might be tough for really any hyrulean to get it, even somewhat skilled warriors would likely have a hard time with it, and while link can also duplicate vehicles only up to 8 special ones made by link which would be hard unless the people of Hyrule found a way to make schema stones, and the problem of zonaite arises as well, and while yes it would revolutionize the entire economy of Hyrule is would also take large amounts of time for any significantly sized amounts of zonai devices to properly start being used by anyone other than link, in fact the only people who can use zonai devices are the Yiga and Hudson construction Co. who both have large access to the materials (I was not involved in the conversation but I just wanted to state my thoughts)

I do wonder how much of Hyrule’s problems stem from just now being able to start recovering from the Calamity which decimated basically everything except a few towns. Remember, in that 6ish year period Zelda created the First School in Hyrule to exist after the Calamity 100 years ago. There are a few generations that grew up with no education, no central government, and Immortal Monsters between each town. While the place is a disaster, it is loyal to Zelda and Link who now have Purah's Youth tech, and access to the Zonai Tech. It shouldn't take them too long to hit a good standard of living and there will be a decently long period of peace (What sane or capable person would try to fight Link?)

You forgot about one major political party! The Yiga have proven themselves to be excellent planners, and Master Kohga to be a brilliantly competent leader. While Rito Village struggles due to the lack of any sort of long term food storage or production, the Yiga had a vast transport network able to transfer plentiful food resources, including quickly spoiling bananas, to every corner of an unexplored chasm the size of Hyrule a kilometer underground. While Gerudo villiage struggled for weeks hiding in a bunker, unable to realize that gibdo are weak to all elemental damage, while the Yiga conquered miles of monster-ridden territory. In addition, the Yiga understand the importance of maintaining a proper, well armed force properly equipped to deal with the harsh reality of a kingdom filled to the brim with monsters. While Hyrule's best "engineers" and "scientists" are struggling to figure out how to steer a plank with wheels nailed onto it when the steering stick required was lying five feet away, the Yiga were flying in advanced aircraft and driving literal tanks. And, perhaps most importantly, Master Kohga is a leader who is present for his people. King Dorephan abandoned his people in their greatest moment of need by hiding in a cave preserved by his own son's manual labor. This deprived Zora's domain of any authority, oversight or direction, leaving only the prince's new fiancée to take charge of vital matters such as disaster relief efforts. In contrast, Master Kohga fights on the front lines of the Yiga's problems, working alongside his subordinates to achieve the goals of his people alongside their prosperity and safety. In short, because of the brilliant leadership of Master Kohga, the Yiga have been immune to the problems that have affected the rest of the nation at large. The love that the Yiga have for Master Kohga goes well beyond that of a manager or even that of a cult leader, it's the love of a people who have truly been cared for and the mark of a leader who has earned the complete and perfect trust of his people. That is why I would like to propose that we vote Master Kohga for King in the upcoming election. Glory to master Kohga

Welcome to the concept of Anime Dumbness. Despite its name, it isn't limited to manga and anime, but it can be seen mostly and more explicitely in anime, hence the name. The concept of it is to have characters otherwise smart and/or capable enough become dumb for either plot reasons, or comedy purpose. For example, the classic scene of the MC accidentally getting a glance at a girl who is taking a bath because she didn't give any warning and/or hint that she was going to take a bath, followed by the girl raining torture on the guy and calling him a perv even if that girl would normally be the most down to earth and logical one of the group. Fortunately that is only a comedic example, but when you pour it all on the plot, you get something like My Heor Academia, which I love for the universe and the possibilities it has created, but hate for the amount of Anime Dumbness it contains. And when it's for the plot, it spreads until the content because mid at best. I personally am still following along the bnha manga, but that's because I'm too commited to it now and leaving when it is near the end like that doesn't sound right, otherwise I would just stick to fan content. So yeah, the suspension of disbelief is kinda broken because of it, just like for you with Totk, which, mood, when you think about it. But I bet there would be more than just Totk that got its Anime Dumbness being too strong and make you think like that about it, and if I'm right, what was it?

@@Spygirl812 I mean, you kinda it now with Totk. And yeah, I've seen a big amount out there. You can't come back from the main character supposedly being really smart and practically the only one who has done analysis but saying "I have legs!" because he forgot he has them while searching for something to replace his punches.

there are examples in real world history that advanced methods and tech were lost before. i think it was the society before greeks that had figured out heated baths or floors, but the technology was lost before the greeks came about. it wasnt due to electricity but some other method. also limited access to certain resources will put a damper on progress. oil may not be a thing in Hyrule. plus there are variables that are not in the real world, such as magic being a thing. maybe a combination of both factors lead to a permant loss of technology. the sheikah probably destroyed most of their tech. only missing some of it to be found later. there is also the problem that GODS are confirmed to exist in the zelda universe. if there is worship of unconfirmed gods in the real world, imagine what CONFIRMED existence of gods would cause. they actually answer prayers. and we can confirm they do in game with 100% repeatable results.

You have to remember that Hyrule is a country in a fantasy world, that exists in a different time and universe, and therefore it's reality is different to ours, so you can't really expect to judge it based on our reality.

To be fair, the Rito had enough trouble finding food in the somewhat safe areas around their village, to evacuate, they'd have to battle their way through monsters and the blizzard while simultaneously foraging and caring for the younglings. The Gorons were under magical influence, Yunobo himself was possessed by a cursed mask. It was noted that, unlike many, if not all other Zora, Sidon had the ability to control water to that degree (although I may be wrong on that, someone else might have purification abilities). Dorephan had an excuse as well, he was nearly killed and was still recovering when he went to the only known haven with pure water, the cave behind the waterfall. As for the Gerudo, I don't know how people didn't realize the Gibdo were weak to elemental attacks. And while Hyrule didn't have a proper police force, it also didn't have criminals, unless you count the high-as-death caldera Gorons trying to swindle people, except for the Yiga, and they were mostly sticking to theor own hideouts and the Depths. (also kidnapping tailors, but nobody's died or been mistreated) Besides, the monster control crew can't do as much as Link can, and while maybe, yes, they do believe only Link can save the country, nobody else seems to be able to. That's gotten a bit long, hasn't it?

I always thought like They _know_ that a male is born to the gerudo every 100 years, and that he's going to be the reincarnation of Ganondorf why not like kill him when he's a baby? And if the princess has the blood of the goddess, why not just kill her immediately too? No avatar for the triforce of wisdom, no triforce of wisdom in hyrule, nothing for Ganon to steal. And whenever there's a super hot blonde femboy named Link running around, why not just give him everything he needs to succeed? He's clearly the chosen one, he's the only Hylian who isn't a hideous, malformed, inbred weirdo. Give him armor, give him rupees, give him food. If you have a piece of heart lying around, GIVE IT TO LINK! He's trying to save the world, why the FUCK does he have to complete an archery minigame to get the heart piece!?

even without zonai technology which requires zonai batteries, the hyrulians already have a reliable source of energy that could have been implemented in the form of monsters. there are monsters who emit bio electric, thermal and cryo sources of energy that can be harvested and utilized without the use of zonai batteries. my vote would be to introduce the economy of slimes. slimes are the least harmful in terms of the elemental monsters as well as the ability to easily convert them between the three forms via external stimulation. the normal slimes can be domesticated and all you would need is a tall fence that they cant jump over. that alone would solve the energy crisis

I was a bit disappointed that the TotK sequel didn't expand on the current state of the Hyrule Kingdom and its political system, instead opting for "discover what happened to Zelda and defeat Ganon again" storyline. If a third game in this time period is made, I hope they go more further into Zelda's attempt to rebuild Hyrule and establish people to be in charge, maybe even have an invading Kingdom come forth in the after of everything.

You should, however, consider they had a signifcant catastrophe that happened to the kingdom of hyrule. Pre calamity, the population of the county of hyrule field had at least the same ammount of towns as BOTW - containing an estimate of 9 former towns, including the capital, 2 temples, multiple farms and a colleseum. Due to the large ammount of food, water and flat , easy to build on land, it is expected all of these towns had a similar population to modern-day Gerudo town, and dirt paths that survive even to this day show that there was ample trade. Furthermore, multiple ruins show even everyday hylians had acces to self defence weapons that could easily take care of monsters, and many shown to belong to soldiers and even knights , with said weapons being found near said ruins. It is expected that there was no monster population before the cala, ity, and any monster had little to no chance due to the large-scale hylian army, and the self defence protocol every citizen had to follow. Highly advanced technology, material wealth was wabundant, and people had signficant freedom of speech rights - as long as they did not support ganon or any anti-reigime. This ended however, due to a slow regression due to events of 10,000 years ago, when the king decided to abolish the sheikah and their technology. This significantly made hyrule regress , as the sheikah /zonai were the first to discover technological breakthroughts - incluiding teleportation, massive guuardina killing machines, overpowered one shot weapons, as well as many quality of lvie features, such as telephones, cameras, and armour. This prevented any further development of hylian society, as the sheikah were either forgetting their technology entirerly or joining the Yiga clan. The yiga clan, fueled by hate towards their former nation, managed to pull ganonfdorfs return, and due to forgotting to use the sheikah technology. Ganondorf carefully ruled the incompetent King Bosphoramus's rule, placing guardians in critical defence spots, particularly centred in hyrule castle and hyrule field area. Due to that tehcnology not being used for 10,000, and it was easy to hijack, and ganondorf managed to access said technolgy. However, this had putted hyrule in a position for re-developing: As incompetent autocracies were removed. However, what saved the kingdom was 1 small development:the king funded a small reaserch team , lead by Purah, to discover this ancient technology and developed it. Altthough not enough to save hyrule in the moment, it opened to However, ever since that calamity, hyrule ahd been ona good path: Rediscovering and further perfecting this technolgy, and discovering the Zonai technology. They had done remarcable progress since: They managed to re-unify hyrule and embraced development not onlyt echnologically, but also architechtually: Building the first multi-story house since the time of the sheikah.Other duties had been transfered to private owners: With Bolson demostrating to be extremly great at contruction under the new queens rule, due to her ehavy passion for reaserch, progress will be fast The collapse of hylian society was a long expected outcome, not due to Ganondorfs's inevitable return, but rather because of the vanishment

I'd say the citizens of Hyrule are adapting remarkably well - they've managed to make a volunteer army that has a decent success rate in rooting out Ganondorf's forces, and it's strongly implied they've done so without Link's help. Yeah, Hyrule is a terrible place to live, being literally under the dying curse of the God of Hate, and it has been far worse before, but Hyruleans are, if nothing else, resilient.

Our societies wouldn't flourish either if there were giant murder robots roaming the land, as well as huge ass dragons, imps that throws magic at us, as well as various monsters that return to life every few days. Zonai technology is relatively new to the inhabitants of Hyrule, and mysteries and dangerous events take place a lot, forcing people into hiding and fight or flight mode. Give them a break, their societies are so small that a king is basically just a glorified chieftain. They need most people in the village to help stay alive, so they have limited amounts of people that can pursue technological advances. That shit is complicated. So they are reduced to basically relying on the few scientists the entirety of Hyrule has, as well as using the Zonai devices that already exists. Unlike Link, the populace at large also do not have batteries for extended Zonai technology usage. Also don't forget that Hyrule is a land with magic related to the goddess Hylia, basically a proven deity, so culture runs so much deeper in Hyrule than in many real modern societies. That would make the populace way more conservative basically automatically.

Public transport and ships would be easy to arrange with all those zonai devices and new hyrule had trains thousands of years before the latest hyrule. they just have to start mining zonaite Zonaite airlines could even be accomplished with ease It would be really cool to see hyrule using all that zonai tech for transport and infrastructure like an elevator in rito village or other places they can even make tanks and bomber planes which ganon can't do anything about because it's not automatic horses would become obsolete because you can just put fans and a steering stick on a wagon and that's a car the roads are unpaved but they exist Police are not needed because hyruleans tend to be too few and far between to have internal issues like theft by someone other than the yiga clan who are basically red bokoblins with teleport. anyone trained in combat can defeat them with a farm tool and hyrule did manage to improve their infrastructure since botw

The Rito are a chiefdom, which means that theres at least a semblance of democracy there. The gorons have a president, but hes a corporate leader, so its basically a corporatocracy, and either way, its a leadership position based on strength and favoritism. Kakariko, Gerudo Town and Lurelin village have a chief, Hateno has a mayor, so it seems like the country as a whole is moving more towards a sort of democratic system. The only real royalty would be Sidon and Zelda, and they dont seem to see their title as that of absolute ruler (Zelda is even introducing elements of socialism into Hyrule) just "well, I guess im in charge cause my daddy said so."

It's a monarchy. From the start as told about rauru, rauru is evil. You basically get sucked into a world where by merely playing the game more you seek power and the shrines are there to help you recover from evil. It literally says that.

Why is Rauru evil? If anything, hes kind of like the wizard of Oz, came from somewhere else, fell out of the sky, and an easily impressed race of people made him their leader. His whole "light" theme kinda comes off as presumptious, but I dont see him as remotely evil. Also, the shrines arent about gaining power, they are about purifying the gloom that infected Link. Each light of blessing (I dont really get that name) just helps restore Link to where he was at the beginning

They have literal time travel in the game. Zelda is playing majoras mask as you are playing a link between worlds. LINK is YOU. He's based on ultima and the player taking over a d and d like character in a meta world where Zelda is the story weaver with essentially an Cassandra complex and Ganondorf and his emmisaries are the mechanics of the game. The only way to tip the balance is through a player entering the world. It's a metaphor for real life. That's why all the games are such direct metaphors to the point the current one is about the war over every ie REEs called Zoanite in the game. You escalate the cold war by playing as you read in the yiga journals and by attacking the "monsters" you force them to fortify so there are entire regions that are like full of silvers. The world is a metaphor for reality just like the last one was a metaphor for promises for a better future handed down 100 years for someone to fulfill. This one is about striking a balance where you see both a potential horrible apocalyptic future where everyone abandoned hyrule and live(d) in the sky trying to build a utopia of automation that's now crumbling and completely reclaimed by nature. And then the source of the exploitation zonaite which powers it all being harvested to the extend we there's literally a tartarus under hyrule that they just sealed away hoping that'd distance would solve the problem. Rauru is basically musk, Thiel, bezos, Google etc if they had their way lol. They even lock all the technology with ip called schema stones and literal electronic locks that can only be unlocked by rauru himself who finally sees through Zelda that the world he is creating is fated to end badly and will need an outsider to "link" into the game but claim the powers while trying to balance it with wisdom left by Zelda as she time travels. There's a deep fake of Zelda trying to thwart her plans and are lying to towns and trying to prevent you from fulfilling on the plan that the sages and the real Zelda set up in the long distant past. The game has always been a post apocalyptic game where technology is hidden in temples and only trusted to the outsider with the key, which is the hand of rauru and the smarts and courage of the player to learn the mechanics and restore order by tempering power with wisdom. The more power you unleash the more the enemy forces also gain the power and link (you) are free to be a chaotic evil neutral or good as you want. You can play the game forever and just keep seeking power and shadow Ganon reminds you of who you are becoming as you controlling link puts on further masks and can even use bio warfare to cause 3rd world tribes to kill themselves for you so you can steal their resources and gain more and more power. But how much power do you really need? You can actually beat the game in 5 minutes but the lust for power has you having to constantly visit shrines to "hopefully as they say" "purify you of your evil' and you can see that the evil literally emanates from the hand of Link the Meta character you control.

I think you’re forgetting one thing here. Hyrule is a post apocalyptic society to begin with. Hyrule used to have Military forces, an infrastructure and probably economy. But the story ahead of Breath of the Wild showed the destruction of all of it. And your argument about the Zora is rather weak. For one, they are a aquatic race. I doubt they will pollute the very element they need to survive. Also: Our modern form of society has introduced pollution and destruction to the environment never seen in 500 years prior to the 19th century.
