To be fair, look at the field of guardian derelicts where Link was finally defeated and injured him that took 100 years to recover. This where Link is at his prime. And maybe still a great cook before was a knight. Maybe all of the food (and eats rock hard food like a champ without breaking teeth no less) is how Link got that endurance.
