When Hyundai first decided to make their own model, They went to Ford for help, because at that time, Hyundai was knockdown assembling Ford cars for South Korean market. But Ford laughed them off. Then Hyundai asked Volkswagen for help, but Volkswagen only wanted Hyundai to produce Beetle, and didn't want to help Hyundai developing their own model. So Hyundai then approached Toyota, and Toyota said "NO". Next they went to Mitsubishi, who said yes. So Hyundai learn to make cars from Mitsubishi. and That's why Hyundai had a lot of quality problems initially.

It's becuse Cadillac is ran by young idiots. The last real Cadillac was the DTS which was killed off after 2011, and with the exception of the Escalade, it's been nothing but downhill from there. Cadillac has lost their way when they abandoned their real customer base and the traditional full-size American luxury car, and it started when they tried to build American BMW's. There's a reason that the older DTS, Devilles, Fleetwoods, and Fleetwood Sixty Specials are flying off the used car and private owner lots nowadays.

You're right about the quality improving leaps and bounds, Tyler. We got a 2007 Hyundai Azera from my dad, and that thing was amazing. Unfortunately, it was totaled by a neighbor backing out of his driveway rather quickly, as he looked at his phone, and sent our car to sedan paradise. We replaced that car with a 2013 Hyundai Genesis 3.8, and have been as happy with it as we were with the Azera.

My Aunt bought a Hyundai Pony back in the late 80's, that thing was hilariously bad. It was actually super reliable but it rusted something chronic at a time when most other brands had that sorted. I sold it for her in 1995 and by then at not even 10 years old it was basically a rolling pile of rust held together with oxidized paint despite always being parked in a garage. Now my wife and I are about to start shopping for a new family car, Hyundai are near the top of the list for us... it's an astounding turn around.

Yep, even a 2003 Hyundai Elantra drove like a baby carriage powered by a lawn mower engine. My mom traded her 92 Honda Accord EXR in for that pile of early Korean shit. She essentially gave away a smooth, reasonably quick & safe vehicle along with 20 grand CAD for a Go Kart.

The Hyundai umbrella is awesome man. I've owned 4 Hyundai and Kia's, all ranging from 2005 - 2018 and they were all super competitive in features and performance per price at the time they were sold for their class. The 05 Optima V6 was kinda a cheap car forsure, but reliable as hell. But from 2006 onwards they really stepped their game up. My 06 Sonata V6 was amazing, never had any major issues, quality was really good for mid 2000s and that V6 had to be one of the most powerful in the consumer mid size class. That thing was great. My 09 Spectra5 SX was an amazing hatchback, the sport tuned suspension handled better than an Mk5 GTi and if had alot of features not found on a $16k car back then. My current is an Elantra GT Sport which isn't an Elantra at all, it's actually a hatchback they sell in Europe called the i30 and man it has the European quality forsure. It's legit like a luxury hot hatch with all the features, performance, and seriously good quality. There isn't anything else in its class that competes besides $40k+ GTi's or AMG CLA hatches. It has all the features those have and more. And I cannot stress the quality enough, it's great. Oh, and it has more interior room and hatch space than the CUVs on the market. Hyundai is great man!

Other than his penchant for hitting speed-bumps a little too hard causing some suspension failures, all he has done is regular maintenance. He told me he had a fuel pump failure at 3 months, but that's it. It's pretty impressive for a 1st year car! The Equus (G90) is the chauffeur driven car while the G80 is the "drivers" car.

For 2003 model year cars, CDs were still pretty big. The iTunes Store didn't launch until April 2003, iPod were still expensive luxury items. While 2000 was the height of CD sales (according to the RIAA,) CD sales in 2002-2003 were roughly on par with 1998-1999. (There was even a slight uptick in 2004 interrupting an otherwise constant decline since 2000.) While aux-in jacks were starting to appear by then, they were by no means ubiquitous. CD changers were still a quite normal thing to have. Even Satellite radio was only brand new - with Sirius going live in July 2002, and XM in September 2001. Good old broadcast radio and CDs were by far the dominant means of listening to audio in the car when that body style launched as the XG300 in 2000 as a 2001 model year vehicle.

The lady quit driving it because the exhaust flex pipe rotted away and it was dumping straight out of the manifold, was loud and smelly... I cobbled the exhaust back together, and other then a set of front brake pads and some cheap walmart tires, it hasn't cost me anything to keep it going the past 5 years. It now has 190,000 miles, plenty of scratches and dings, but it drives fine and everything still works on it (even the ac). Its been the perfect cheap beater car.

Our back parking lots were connected and I was stunned at the one and two year old Kia vehicles that were rusting the hell out. They began covering them when they saw me taking pics. They have certainly come a long way. For that matter when the gas crisis of 1973 hit my wife parked her Cadillac Eldo and bought a top of the line Toyota Mark III wagon. The first time it rained the passenger footwell filled with water. The first trip she took to see her mother in Florida it dropped a pushrod in Atlanta. Yeah, they have both come a Long Way.

It also had heated front and rear seats along with rear seat radio controls... but no cruise control. And it made 190 HP because Korea uses a lot better quality gas and perhaps didn't care about emissions as much back then. Since I had that car, I've wanted to buy on in the states. I really liked it and I sold it for what I bought it for a year and 10,000 km more - $2,500.
