In our latest dyno test, we had this 2021 Hyundai i20N in for tuning and testing. After quick installation of our Pro Petrol chip tuning box, it was up on the rollers to see what the engine could achieve. Check out how we install the box on this engine, here: • Kia / Hyundai 1.6 T-GD...
Dyno testing before and after shows healthy gains across the rev range, with a decent increase in power and torque, really transforming how the i20 feels to drive.
Peak power was increased, as we were able to lift it from 198hp at stock, up to 235hp with the box. If you take a look at the dyno graph here 0:46 you can see how we change that curve (dotted red and blue lines) changing where the power is applied. We bring that extra power in as soon as possible, as you can see where we start to lift that curve from right down at the 2500rpm mark. We also give real consistency through the entire rev range, as taking a look around the 4500rpm-6500rpm section, you can really see that noticeable difference throughout that whole section of the revs.
Torque also saw some great improvements. At stock the engine produced 309Nm and now 362Nm with the box. Stock figures coming in a little higher than manufacturer quoted at 275Nm, but not particularly unusual to see higher stock figures here, as they can usually push beyond what Hyundai claim. If you take another look at the graph (solid lines), it’s a similar story, where you can really see where we have applied those gains, allowing those torque improvements to be applied exactly where it’s needed, lifting those figures across the entire rev range.

How do you think would a box like this work/react if the car has been modified a bit already? For example Forge inlet and custom exhaust 70mm from catalyst to end.

198 on factory map? 6hp below the advertised 204? And around 12 lower than what I've seen other stock i20Ns dyno'd at? I hope that's not running regular unleaded 🤔

its actually only 3hp down on stated stock , 201bhp......thats nothing all cars vary ,as a general rule German cars run more power than stated ....still a decent gain for a very cheap price...

A few hp either way really isn't worth worrying about. 2hp is 1%, so we are talking a 1.5 to 3% difference depending upon which stock quoted figure you use. Two different dynos will rarely be as close as 3% on the same car in the same conditions. Most dynos haven't been calibrated in years, whereas this ours was brand new less than a year ago.

Not at the wheels no, that's the measured figure at the flywheel.

@@alirezghi6480 we don't use an arbitrary loss figure like 20%, as this is a pretty inaccurate method. This dyno accurately measures losses to give an accurate, repeatable flywheel figure.

Annoyingly the guy had it booked in as an M340i, when hes got the reg, its an M340d. We will still hopefully get one in soon.
