This is by far one of the best how to car videos I've seen and used. It took me maybe one in a half to just under two hours total to replace the spark plugs, the ignition coils, and the plenum gasket (at least that's what they were calling it online). This video was spot on. I watched it a bunch of times and jumped around to what I needed. I also found tons of mistakes that our dealership mechanics made the last time they worked on the car that I got to fix. Bracket behind the purge tank with no bolts just hanging loose, air box put under the battery platform with no bolt or nut to hold that air box down. So many things. Got to fix several issues needless to say. Thanks a million. I feel like I know our family car a lot better. Definitely more confident in working on it now.

JUST got back from doing some laps after tackling this job. Decided to do this after having some intermitent rough starts. The dealership told me there was some misfiring at startup, so sparks was a good place to start to try and fix it. We'll see if that ended up being the cause...but time will tell there. Followed you step by step, and aside from some stubborn connectors, i had no major issues, and everyting went smooth. Took me 5hrs, but it was a great learning experience, and i saved $500. No codes, car seems to run normally, so knock on wood... all is well. Thanks so much for posting this video. A tip for anyone doing this, remove that bolt at the rear of the surge tank FIRST! Not after you get everything else disconnected and realize its rusted tight and beyond your ability to break loose.

Old guy here, trying to save some money. Your video convinced me that I could do this job with some help from my son. All went well thanks to your tips. BTW in 2024 the gasket was hard to find, be careful to compare video to what is being sold! Santa Fe 2013 -with 99K- all plugs looked about the same-worn but not terrible. Also saw your video on the PCV valve, so we did that too-maybe it will help with oil consumption. Cleaned throttle body. THANK YOU!

Thanks for the video. I have a 2016 Kia Sedona 3.3. I’ve asked 2 actual pro mechanics to do this job for me and they both didn’t want to. I followed your video and got it done today in 3.5 hours. I took my time and that time included a trip to auto parts store nearby and lunch. Got a check engine light when I cranked it up cuz I forgot to connect the throttle body plug. Not too bad. 2 things you didn’t mention not sure if yours was different but there was a bracket behind the manifold that was holding an oil or ac line that I had to take off to get the manifold out. Also the new coils were slightly different than the stock ones in then van. I got OEM exact part numbers but I had to the coil plug connect because it was inverted 180 deg. Not a big deal but just thought I’d mention it. Thank you so much. I’ve been wanting to get this done for a while.

Hello! Very helpful video, good job. Need to do this job soon. I have couple of questions: 1- have you had a rough start-up that then just smooth out after a few seconds? Do you know what that could be? 2- I get like a pressure relieving sound when stopping, I replaced the PCV valve a while ago, don’t know if this might be causing that.
@ozzstars_cars
@ozzstars_cars 6 ай бұрын
Yes the rough idle at startup is common. At one point years ago Hyundai has a software update but I believe it is due to carbon buildup on that back of the valves. This happens on high mileage vehicles. What mileage does your car have?

Thank you so much, that was super helpful, I plan to change the plugs on my 2018 Kia Sorento 3.3L this weekend. I will let you know how it goes. Worried the most about that back bolt, I don't have one of those Gimbals
@ozzstars_cars
@ozzstars_cars 2 жыл бұрын
That bolt is very tight. You can sneak a 3/8 ratchet to break the torque, then back it out with 1/4 drive which will give you more room. The gimbal is convenient but not necessary.

Went smoothly, the back bolt was not hard at all. I got nervous putting it back in as it didn't seed until the other bolts were tighter and I was able to put it in last. Appreciate the help, Car runs great. My only question would be the old gasket had a little oil on it on one of the sections, not a lot but a bit and wondered if that was normal. I put a new gasket in it.

If Hyundai would put their engines in pointing the right way it would be easier to reach stuff, Dang . Actually they can (and do) block half the coils with the intake manifold on their RWD cars as well. Have a v6 Stinger; the OEM shop manual has you removing the intake as well to do a spark plug change. Fortunately the community figured out that with the right combination of wobble/rotating sockets and with disassembling the coils there is JUST enough room to get the plugs out without removing the intake!

Thank you. I’ve got a 2018 Kia Sedona that’s coming up to 60k miles on it. Kia says at 60k replace the coolant, spark plugs, and fuel filter. Coolant? Easy peasy. I wasn’t sure about the spark plugs but after seeing this video it seems…. Possible. I’ve done belts, water pumps, and alternators on other cars. These rear plugs look like a PITA though. The fuel filter? Forget it. Gotta Pull the entire pump out the back the car? I’ll pay someone thanks. Do you think the fuel filter and plugs really need service at only 60k miles? I’m hoping to get some Toyota like lifespan out of this Kia since van prices are astronomical right now.
