This is basically the same as the Kia Niro EV new shape (SG2). I’m getting the same results, with an average of 14,5kWh /100km driven over the last 8300 km. I noticed too that the GOM is accurate to within about 5-10km based on having the HvAC on or off.. the platform being used by Hyundai/Kia motors is insanely good, they really have their act together with their EV tech.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I will report on the first 5000km in the UK with this car soon. i am thinking an approriate title may be something like 'long live the new efficiency king ?...'

Great video. It was interesting to have km on UK roads, but can just multiply by 0.62 to get the approx. miles. I just bought one of these and have not done motorway driving yet, but over 270 miles is very good for motorway range. Done 100 miles with 69% remaining and had climate control on quite a lot as it was hot for the first few days.

Tuff capacitytest when you test a 65 kWh battery. More than five hours of driving! Good work! PS. Quite impressive low consumtion.

I love this type of video as I struggle to decide which EV to invest my money in. Just because I'm lazy, it would have been nice however if the distances and speed had been in miles.

Good to know, so you can have a good comparison at the beginning. I'm down to 63.2kwh usable (if linear) in my 64kwh Kona but I never measured it new sadly. SOH on the car scanner app has finally dropped to 99% after 47500 miles.

Thanks. The truth is that - unless degradation was bad, which I wouldn't expect on these cars - these measures should be mostly irrelevant as no-one would notice a difference on such efficient/sizeable battery cars.

Nice video. What tyres do you use, all season or summer tyres?

These are Nexen N Fera Primus 215/60 R17 96H, which i believe are summer tyres (but we ll use them all year long here)

What's the rationale for a non-linear state of charge display? Struggling to see why that would be better than a linear approach.
@evdabbler
@evdabbler 2 ай бұрын
Voltage is lower as state of charge reduces. In my understanding this means the manufacturer needs to correct for a natural non linearity.

4.3 miles/kWh is more than decent compared to the competition and the bulky shape of this model. I get that you wanted to use IONITY because of your subscription, but have you got a tool in the car’s system that shows live charger availability? ABRP provides that now.
@evdabbler
@evdabbler 2 ай бұрын
Yes the navigation system seems good enough for that. It has live availability of chargers.

I should have mentioned it's the 17". You will recognise the wheels on the picture. Efficiency on the 19" same car i tested earlier in year is significantly worse

Why are you using kilometres in the UK? Also the music is too loud compared to the speech. Otherwise good video.

Noted and thanks for the feedback. Aside from the fact I think the metric system works well and I am familiar enough with the conversions, it does give me that bit more precision on the final calculation. The final result would be +/-2% (+/-1.6kWh) if using miles and miles/kWh for the reading, it is +/-0.7% if using Wh/km (+/-0.5kWh). Of course we can then dispute the accuracy of the display itself but let's start with the best reading we have first.

@@evdabblerfor me it’s more the old way of calculating kWh/100km that bugs me, which we inherited from L/100km. I would very much prefer km/kWh, like miles/kWh makes more sense to me. As I am more instantly interested in how far I can go for each kWh I have left, than the actual consumption per distance. If that makes sense.😅

I get 4.4 miles per kilowatt at motorway speeds in my 3 year old eNiro, so the Hyundai/Kia Group motors are ahead of the efficiency league. I found your video disappointing because you were using kilometers instead of miles on a British road. This might be boarding on illegal and I found it massively irritating trying to follow the information you were displaying.
@evdabbler
@evdabbler 2 ай бұрын
Sorry to disappoint and feedback received. I think the answer is that it should be displayed in both miles and km so everyone can follow. Less than 1 in 3 viewers here are in fact from the UK or the USA, and all the other countries I see listed use the metric system. Also to note the speed limiter was on pretty much all the time so quite confident in terms of having driven on the right side of the law. Finally for this test which is about calculating distance * efficiency, you essentially get one more digit of precision by using Wh/km rather than miles/kWh.

You won't be able to use *all* the battery capacity because the battery has a buffer to prevent total discharge, which would damage the battery pack.
@evdabbler
@evdabbler 2 ай бұрын
Yes gross capacity on this one is supposed to be c.68.5kWh before the buffers.
