The 2017 Accent has a brace/support for the cat attached by two bolts, made access better by removing it. I also pulled the wipers off and removed the plastic cover to have just a little more room.

That's what I was thinking... because they won't ship it to you if you live in California or it will say non CARB compliant for CA. And if you live in a state that doesn't have strict smog restrictions the catalytic converter is still cheap if you buy it at the Hyundai Dealership like $300 compared to California which would be over $2,000

Rule of thumb….the upstream will be position before the CAT and downstream will be position after CAT

I live in California. G ot the code for our 2015 Kia Rio EX. Did not quote a dealership. However a Mechanic shop is charging $2.218.00 for the work. Including the replacement of two oxigen Sensors

They need to make it a tad smaller so it doesn't eat up the top when taking it out from the top. And hitting those metal lines, etc. Thanks for the video. That O2 sensor came out way too easy :) How many miles did this accent have? I think loosening the motor mount and lowering engine to a bit would also make it easier and more room to work. My dealer wants 2K for changing it. Didn't say how much the cat cost was in that mix. Doing it this weekend. Wish me luck. :) 2016 Accent GDI 1.6

Thanks for the video. What was the cause of the cat failure for your friend? My accent keeps burning engine oil which basically destroyed the cat. While I am willing to try installing a new cat, I am afraid my engine burning the engine oil will melt the cat again… not to mention hyundai and kia cars are notorious for burning engine oil…

do an engine oil flush if you havent already, clean your intake valves and fuel injectors (the GDi engines intakes get clogged with carbon from the combustion proccess) your car will run smoother at lower rpms which will in turn slow the oil consumption. never underestimate the power of frequent oil changes along with preventive maintenance

It's possible the cheapo $169 cat doesn't have the same quality as OEM and causing exhaust to be louder. Also, the CAT likely has oil, etc. on it during storage to keep it from rusting. It should burn off eventually as the cat gets very hot. With the rare elements in a cat, I don't see how they sell them so cheap unless.....

up stream and down stream 02 sensors are NOT suppose to look alike on the graph!!!! up stream should move up and down. The down stream sensor should be mostly flat lined.

How on earth did you get those bolts out from the flex pipe without dropping the crossmember? I’ve been struggling for HOURS to get the crossmember down so I can have hand room to get to the bolts on that flex pipe (which are hella rusted😣) I’ve connected many extension bars to try and move along the pipe but it’s not working.

The catalytic converter is just likely clogged because so much Unburned fuel is dumping into the manifold/CAT basically causing a fire inside the manifold.

@@RedCapMusik well if you do have a piston ring problem then yes most likely you are getting unwanted oil and fuel blow bye into your exhaust…I can see the manifold getting hot with that scenario. Sorry to hear that….if you are able I’d pull the spark plugs out and look at their condition….if they look like charcoal then you really do have a problem

@Gasdieselgarage I was actually topping it up when I had a Fram oil filter. Shop put on. I changed it and since have had no issues as far as losing oil. I pulled the plugs last week. They didn't look to to bad. A little black but no soaked. It was after this I noticed the manifold being red hot. Not sure if that could have caused it or just that I happened to catch the glowing after I did this Was considering replacing with new ones as I feel maybe spark not strong enough thus allowing unburnt fuel into exhaust. They (Dealer) say the stock plugs are good to 100k. But I doubt that.

Is that car from California? Or NY? Because Dealer Catalytic converters are usually that expensive in those states because of strict smog regulations. Other states even if you get it from the Dealership it's way cheaper...

I'm trying to find one for a 2016 Hyundai Tucson Sport 1.6 T. The dealership is trying to charge me $3500, and I can't afford it. I'm trying to find one that fits. Got the engine replaced. Since it comes out through top, jack stands are fine. Just need to get under it for removing some bolts.

Fuel pressure regulator may be acting up…dumping more fuel through the exhaust causing codes and also leaking injectors but that’s hard to diag unless you bench test the injectors not on the engine….you may be running into a “running rich” issue but you won’t notice unless you have a computer to read the o2 sensor output or smell strong fuel odors.

I also have a 2014 Hyundai Accent putting up the P0420 fault code. The mechanic told me that, because the catalytic converter is CARB (California) compliant, the internal computer won't allow a non CARB compliant converter to be installed, and is wanting to charge me $3000 to replace it. Well unfortunately California has SMOG compliance tests every year if I’m not mistaken. Technically I don’t believe it would make a difference but passing the smog tests I can’t be 100% sure on that. Now for your question….the converter it’s self should not make any difference on what the cars computer is reading…I call BS on that 3000 dollars to replace…..the only difference between a California compliant cat and a regular cat is that they are made differently. But shouldn’t mess you cars ecu up.
