Hi Tom, great review as always mate. Looks great outside and inside. I like the AWD spec but never too sure about diesel as a fuel, I’ve heard Diesel engines are not ideal if you are only doing short distances ie like under 10km a couple of times a day on weekdays. And why does some diesel cars need adblue and some don’t? Thanks in advance for your advice

Thks for the awesome review. I took a highlander for a test drive a fortnight ago and was over the moon. Ive got a big family and they enjoyed the space and technology. I also test drove a carnival platinum diesel and even though i found the aesthetic look plus the driver side arm rest more appealing the carnival lost me on the seating. You cant get 3 adults in the middle or back as my 14 yr old struggled in between. I test drove a toyota prado and found that even though it has the middle row curb side seat folding to allow you to get to the back its not practical when you have a baby seat which you then need to place on the road side. The Staria's middle row road side seat folds to get to the back which then allows me to put my baby seat to the middle row curb side. Ive booked one in last week. Expected delivery 4-6 months.

Looks great , Hyundai has been on a roll of late with their design/products. This will take sales from the upmarket MB vito vans. Hotels , corporate fleet and Uber black operators will be on it like white on rice .. Tom as usual Great review !

It only replaces the iMax and iLoad here because we didn't import the Grand Starex and Grand Starex Royale, which are what the Staria range- including the Lounge that we won't get here- actually replaces as passenger vehicles. Press and set your buttons before you drive off. It's illegal in all states and territories to be faffing around with distractions in the vehicle whilst driving. A pity we won't get the top-of-the-range Lounge option with the second-row captain's chairs. Unless we kick up a stink about it and Hyundai change their mind. CarExpert reckons the diesel engine is somewhat anæmic in both power and torque, yet you say it's fit-for-purpose. I suppose I'll have to take one out for a run. I do have plenty of room in one- and I'm 194-198 cm and 119 Kg. How it would feel sitting in the driver's seat for a peak-hour run from Brisbane to the Gold or Sunshine Coast remains to be seen. The Staria has it all over the Merc except for poncy hotel staff that want something "Euro" on its driveway. Passengers, in my experience really have little care as to the badging. Comfort and room are paramount in this respect.

The big down side to the imax and iload was the ox cart rear suspension. Any lose fillings would certainly fall out of the smallest of bumps.

Remember when all concept cars in the 90's looked like this? Vans are actually sorta fun to drive and way more versatile than a 7 seat SUV.

Thanks for the great video and first review. Do you know anything about the Staria's towing capacities? In the Australian specs, towing power is listed with 2.500 kg, in Germany for whatever reason only with 1.500 kg which seems far too low for that kind of vehicle...

After watching this, I went back and watched some Carnival reviews from earlier in the year. Seems like the Carnival is more polished and a better choice if you don't *need* the AWD? The folding third row seats are especially clever. If they roll out the MY22 Carnival with the digital dash and the local steering tune as promised, that'd be my pick.

I'd prefer Captain's chairs in the second row. Diesel + AWD is good value at only $3K more than the thirsty V6 petrol. Love the window depth, but the curvaceous front is at odds with the slab like rear. Carnival for me.

loved it when i first saw it but it's kinda fading on me now. i do like that limited edition batch of cheapo cream load versions on the interceptor-type rims tho. but yeah, this is just tarago all over again, whether hyundai likes it or not. can't blame them, this is about as good as it gets when it comes to the category. although, of the lot, the carnival's design is possibly the most 'timeless', it would now seem. plus kia have the redesigned badge, which also gets them more points.

Tom, ever driven a late model (2010-2021) SUV without a center armrest in either (gawd forbid), the front or even rear passenger seat at this, or any price?? Hyundai OZ ask 70K for this and it features non, yet all other markets have it as standard....My neighbour just bought the rather smart looking LDV G10 Executive for 40K drive away and his features 90% of what is standard on the Hyundai.
