Watch as artist Torkwase Dyson describes the process of bringing her monumental installation to life for the inaugural Hyundai Terrace Commission.
What began as a drawing in her studio transforms into a tactile, geometric gesture. "Liquid Shadows, Solid Dreams (A Monastic Playground)" serves as a space for meditation, interaction, and play. Dyson invites visitors to experience the work within the shifting conditions of the Whitney’s outdoor terrace. Evolving with its environment, the installation becomes a symbol of ecology, belonging, and personal history for all who navigate its many passageways and resting places.
Plan your visit to Torkwase Dyson’s Hyundai Terrace Commission at the Whitney Museum of American Art today, open until February 9, 2025.
