I-17 North (AZ), Phoenix Metro Region

This video follows I-17 North in Arizona, from Interstate 10 to the AZ Loop 101 freeway.

I remember when I moved to Phoenix in 1985. Back then I-17 had orange trees planted in the median and it was 2 lanes in each direction. The last time I drove on I-17, about four weeks ago, ADOT was adding new lanes in each direction making the freeway 5 or 6 lanes in each direction. I miss those good old days back in the 80's. But more people keep on moving here.

The changes in this town are incredible !! I moved away from Phoenix some years ago, and I honestly miss it !! And, wouldn'tcha know it, my Deer Valley Exit has a CLOSED sign pasted over it !! Nice video...I drive down the 'Old Freeway' from the Stack (Big Interchange w/ I-10) the the Stack Transition (little interchange w/ I-10 by the airport). That is actually not the oldest, but resembles a lot of the Santa Monica Fwy in LA south of Downtown. The oldest section of fwy is I-17 at Thomas/Grand or 2:46.

I remember the orange trees that lined the median around the Durango curve area. I-17 from the split to the curve was originally planned to be I-10 to CA, which is interesting because they're planning a reliever freeway along the same alignment. The SanTan and Price freeways are my favorite. :)

Good video nicely done. Always good to get out of Texas and explore Phoenix. Check out San Antonio because it has some cool freeways.

the 17/101 stack completely opened in late 1999 (west portion opened in 1998)

I went to Graduate school in 82-83 and in those days I17 an I10 were IT PERIOD for freeways. I drove this to get downtown or to Tempe or anywhere to the east. There were no decent ways of going east to west in those days. My exit was Greenway and go west (left). One strange thing I do remember about Phoenix drivers is that they would slow down to 25MPH on the freeway if it started raining. Like snow in Houston!!

I used to live in Surprise/Sun City, west of Phoenix on your way to Vegas by the Wal-Mart and Ford dealership off Bell Blvd. Nice video.

Im moving to Phoenix this year and that Az loop and the Interchange for I-17 and I-10 were pretty cool.Have you seen the I-10 and I-405 and the I-110 and I-105 interchange in Los Angeles?And have you seen the I-15 and U.S. Route 95 Interchange(Spaghetti Bowl) in Las Vegas?Those are cool interchanges and i live in Las Vegas and always take it the I-15 south to head to Cali and north to head to North Las Vegas and i take it for U.S. 95 West

Gee, since 2009 they have worked a lot from the Loop 101 to the Loop 303. As seen in this video it shows past Loop 101 its is a 2 on 2 lane freeway, with some road work. Now from the the Loop 101 until the Loop 303 it is a 3 on on 3 freeway + an HOV Lane on both sides, making it 4 on 4 lane freeway.

It's an '09 Corolla. Bought it in January. Unfortunately, I've already put 31,000 miles on it (!!!), but part of that is because I left California last month for a 3+ month tour of the USA, eastern Canada and Mexico. Expect well over 200+ HD videos from around North America in the coming year, and that doesn't even include any future recordings around California in HD. ::gulp::

No, AZ 101 isn't made into Interstarte-grade standards. Although HOV Lanes are almost done for Price Freeway, even this state freeway won't make it through Interstate-grade standards. :P And no, odd numbers go north-south (this freeway goes north-south AND east-west)

Phoenix is a nice place and there are so many things 2 do, and even though everyone is entitiled to their opinion I will say that it offends me when some people talk about how the place is boring. Because if u want 2 talk about a place bein boring move 2 Shreveport, Louisiana. Because Shreveport does not have a professional football team, professional baseball team, professional basketball team, or two international raceways like Phoenix does.
