@AlvinHDavernport8 жыл бұрын
I think I first watched a Twin Cities video of yours back in 2006 (Electricityscape was the track of choice). Somehow that particular timelapse turned me into an armchair explorer -- which is how I became an avid follower of yours (and Freewayjim's and FreewayBrent's and many others', really) for a bit. Lots of places I saw on a screen that I really wanted to visit in the flesh, but somehow the Twin Cities (in its perfect, vanilla upper Midwesternness) was a special one. Ten years later, and after armchair exploration finally gave way to actual traveling (which is why I haven't been active much here for the past six years or so), I've visited many, many of the places that you guys first introduced me to -- finally among them, as of this year, the Twin Cities. It felt awfully familiar. Sometimes I entertain the idea that all this armchair exploration kills the thrill of first going into a place with a totally open mind, but I rather enjoy the fact that I can see a place online and sort of mold my mental image of it at will, and when I go it fits the mold perfectly. All of which is to say I'm pretty glad to be back here and see you guys are still going at it. Anyway, awesome video! Quite colorful... I'm assuming early-ish November?
@eluko798 жыл бұрын
Yep. Early November. I had to take an extended lunch break to film it. Good to hear from you Alvin. I still have that video up for sentimental value. Complete with politically incorrect comments and everything. Man the Strokes were huge back then!
@FreewayBrent8 жыл бұрын
Nice, Alvin! Nice to read a comment like yours. Yeah, I took my filming project to Australia over the past year. Can't believe I'm still doing this after all these years.

Gosh, that was freakin' awesome! You always have such catchy tunes for these videos; this one in particular seemed to be one of your very best picks. Great subject matter too; I-35E looks quite scenic due to the parkway status. Fantastic work all throughout; I'll have to feature this on my FreewayBrent Facebook page this weekend.

Nice video. I'm hoping to head down there myself within the year. That "Little Canada" place is just calling out for a road video :-D Looking at a map, the Twin Cities area looks like it has an enormous number of Freeways. I haven't been down there in about 10 years.
@eluko798 жыл бұрын
Thanks. There's quite a few, even a few I haven't even filmed yet. Fun fact about Little Canada is that it's whats left over from New Canada township, which once encompassed half of St. Paul and a few of it's suburbs. The "Little" comes from whats left of it today.

Coming from Rochester on 52, there is a hairpin turn-type exit I have to take to go north on my way to Ely, MN (Duluth). We used to take 494 around the cities just to avoid downtown...but we also generally did this trip overnight just to avoid heavy traffic, and to get to the forest service office in Ely right when they opened so we could get underway. Anyway- is that hairpin exit kind of a new thing, or is Google maps just sending me on a weird route in which there's a far easier way to go??
@suckitmercurial818181817 жыл бұрын
From 52 each ramp there is some sort of turn, Assuming you went 94 east, that ramp actually has the least turns. 94 West does a complete U-turn under the highway, and West 7th Street (MN 5)? I don’t want to talk about it.
@StormLaker6 жыл бұрын
I ended up taking 494E around. I have to go back up that way Monday again..definitely will go that way again, haha.

Why do you have two different types of county markers in Minnesota? I thought the flowerpot design was universal in the States.
@eluko798 жыл бұрын
The white ones are funded by the county alone while the blue ones (CSAH's) receive aid from both the county and state. The blue ones tend to be busier and cross county lines while the white ones are quieter and stay within the county.
@Pyeknu8 жыл бұрын
Oh, gotcha. Up here in Ontario, there's a clear dividing line between provincially-funded highways and regional/county roads.

Even though, commenting on the changing speed limit, idk which I HATE the most... the sudden switching from 70 to 55 or the 45 mph limit remaining today in the yuppielands... I can only imagine what those micro municipalities do in their free time if they maintain a police department...
@eluko798 жыл бұрын
A deal was struck so I guess we have to abide. I assume the lower speed limit had to do with car noise back in the day so maybe in the future when quieter cars are more common the deal can be renegotiated. Here's hoping!
@saxman1128 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the 45 MPH speed limit on that section of 35E by downtown St. Paul has always confused me ever since moved here from southeastern Wisconsin. I now live not too far from 35E (just right on Grand past Ayd Mill) and my first out of college full time job is right near 35E in Little Canada so I'm on it every day now. Surprisingly, traffic has never been an issue for me on it. When going into work on 35E North I always see slow traffic on the southbound side and vice versa on my way back from work.
@liamh10158 жыл бұрын
i live in St.Paul and frequent 35E. No one and I repeat NO ONE who is from around here follows that speed limit.
