I love how TXDOT makes their entire freeway concrete, not just the overpasses, it’s so satisfying to listen to! Awesome drive btw!

S. Central Expressway is TX 310 and is also known as S. M. Wright Expressway. I-45 is Julius Schepps Freeway. Central Expressway is routed across I-45 near the former JCT with US 175 to downtown Dallas where it splits into one-way streets. The opposite direction downtown is Pearl Expressway. Both one-way streets come back as a freeway right at the north end of I-345.

May 26, 2023: Dallas City Council Approves TxDOT Plan for I-345 Remodel After over a decade of debate, a major thoroughfare is set to be rebuilt after a vote by City Council. The city of Dallas is moving forward with a Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) plan to remodel Interstate 345. The expressway bridge dividing downtown and Deep Ellum will be torn down and rebuilt as a below-grade, six-lane trench with overpasses and a new deck park. -------- Part of the delay was due to some people advocating with doing away with that stretch of highway completely and replacing it with a street level boulevard. Not practical. "TxDOT said replacing I-345 with a boulevard would create more traffic and break the north-south connection, and the city would be on the hook for the construction costs. The removal could also cause potential civil rights violations and affect the city’s ability to get certain funding and support from the state and federal government, according to TxDOT."

I watched this one at 2x speed; it didn't seem all that fast to me. Perhaps most Texas drivers drive at double the posted speed. Given the distances, you have to drive "briskly" to get anywhere in a decent amount of time. I knew a guy with the City of Dallas who synchronized the lights on city streets (signed for 35mph) to be optimized for their normal 50mph traffic flow. Then I moved to San Francisco which has streets (signed for 30mph) optimized for 20mph traffic flow. Yuck.
