Almost four years ago, a random search of I-880 led me to your original work of this. Watching this just brought back a flood of memories and nostalgia. Seriously, you did an awesome job with this. I never even knew of the term "Nasty Nimitz" either! Still, the corridor was amazing to see. Going into my favorites, thank you for the awesome video!

Very interesting indeed!! I've never been to California before,and I'll agree with you having heavy traffic. It looks like every big city in America as far as having too much traffic is concerned. That doesn't at all surprise me,dude. Love that music too!! Sounds like music that has been played in some night clubs I've been to and definitely a beat that was worth dancing to!!! Great videos,dude!! Hopefully someday soon I'll visit California as I have close friends who live in a small town in Northern California the town is called Anderson.

Something about this freeway reminds me of the "fake" freeway constructed for the second Matrix movie. I can certainly understand how it would be hated and reviled, but I rather enjoyed this ride, so thank you!

Hey just a FYI....From the 7th st/West grand ave exit to just after the 80/580 split is where the double decker "cypress freeway" used to be. Until its colapse on Oct. 19, 1989. But, great video. I have not been (back home) since 1995.

When I-880 starts to get a little curvy at 4:30, it almost reminds me of the 5 freeway just south of downtown L.A. near the I-710 interchange, good work, Brent! I can feel a sense of evil from this freeway by the choice of your music. :)

The tunnels are wide (and tall) enough to handle trucks; however, hazardous loads are only permitted to drive through the Caldacott between 3 and 5 a.m., every day (yup, just 2 hours a day).

Thanks! It's probably most impressive, viewing it from westbound I-80 at ground-level. Numerous flyover ramps, all congregating in one spot.

For some reason, always thought it would be pretty easy to drive in the carpool lane during the hours when your not supposed to, I mean are those lanes actually patrolled where they look for cars/trucks with only 1 person in it? Was the Nimitz freeway named after the famous warship if I'm Correct? I actually used to live of of Hisperian Blvd in San Lorenzo. My High school basketball team actually played at Oracle Arena for a few games. Awesome Video as always....Congratulations

ahhhh...my home...yeah, I spent a lot of time driving the 800 in the east bay. The Hesperian exit right next to the 238 offramp always drove me nuts. People would be blocking the exit to the 238 because the backup leading off at Hersperian would extend a good 1/4 mile down the freeway...ugh! Worst design for a freeway exit EVER! And my how the 92 interchange has evolved over the 10 years I've been out of the area! Cool Vid Brent!

I had a look. I agree with you. Supersmall offramps. Drivers only get one shot to get off the motorway. Get off or stay or drive into the barrier.

Similar thing does happen at the Caldacott Tunnel along CA 24, although that's mainly due to the design of the approaches (CA 24 is rather hilly and both ends of the tunnel are curvaceous), leading to both ends of the tunnel. Not to mention that the lighting at the entrance of both ends isn't the greatest.

Great video and I-880 has an equivalent in the Lehigh valley area it's US-22 from I-78 east exit 51 to pa-145, & pa-987 . Serves Lehigh valley mall and airport since I-78 bypasses both, and this 12 mile section of us-22 east has lots of accidents due to short deceleration lanes on a busy 4 freeway. Filming this strech of us-22 requires I knew you were trouble by Taylor Swift, and she grew up in berks county which is a part of the Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania.

@FreewayBrent11 жыл бұрын
Excessively heavy/constant stream of traffic (which you probably noticed in the 2nd half of the video), 1950's-era engineering (very short and closely spaced entrance and exit ramps), a lack of breakdown shoulders through central Oakland, and truck traffic that reaches an average of over 20,000 trucks per day, much higher than a typical freeway. Parts of the freeway are now receiving a (much overdue) overhaul, but it's still many years away before the entire freeway is widened with shoulders.

Definitely not, but it's still a busy airport, and the regional hub for Southwest Airlines. It gets about 9.2 million passengers a year. It's a pretty convenient airport to get to and navigate around. Once they finish building the BART extension directly into the terminals, it'll be a 25 minute train ride into downtown San Francisco.
@FreewayBrent11 жыл бұрын
No, it's definitely a valid question of yours. Not dumb at all. Sometimes, SFO is prone to flight delays, due to weather (i.e. fog) and pure demand. Oakland Int'l, on the other hand, rarely suffers from delays, and if you look at the geography of the Bay Area, for some people, it is much easier to access Oakland Int'l vs. SFO. It still ranks as one of the busier airports in the US, so there's definitely a need for it.
@FreewayBrent11 жыл бұрын

Well, it's fairly unlikely that you'll get pulled over. BUT, if you do, it's a minimum $481 fine, plus all sorts of fees that help pay for the California budget. You're probably talking a minimum $600 fine, if you get caught. 2nd time offenders can be hit with up to $1,000 in fines, and 3rd time offenders could end up forking over $1,500. Expensive! The Nimitz Freeway was actually named after Chester Nimitz, a World War II fleet admiral. Glad you enjoyed the ride!

I wouldn't be surprised if I-880 is in the top 2 or 3 in the state, for most accidents. Especially the stretch between Oak Street and High Street, where there's almost always *at least* a couple of major accidents EVERY WEEK...meaning, overturned trucks, accidents severe enough to shut down one direction of traffic for 1 or 2 hours. Well, you get the picture. Luckily, I was able to get this down in 1 session, although I chose the lightest travel day and time of the week (a Monday @ 11 am)

Where is the section of I-880 is double-deck from; the area that collapsed in the '89 earthquake?
@justinhui55338 жыл бұрын
That wasn't I-880; that I-80, which ran across the Bay using the old Bay Bridge, which was double-deck and did collapse in the '89 earthquake. They don't use the double deck bridge anymore, instead they use two separate bridges.

You can expect an increasing number of releases, starting this Spring. My "excuse" for releasing very few videos in the past 2 quarters is all due to work, and moving not once, not twice but THREE times. Exhausting! I'm setting up an entirely new department for our Bay Area operations, so it's been overwhelming, to say the least. Good news is that things are just starting to settle down, meaning that I can start devoting more time to my hobby soon. Stay tuned...

Ha, thanks! If you remember the freeway chase scene, they actually copied one of the big green signs along US 101 South in Redwood City (near San Francisco), and inserted it into the scene. Something I caught, while watching the movie for a 3rd time. On a side note; I'm kinda wishing I had edited out the first 30 seconds of this song...it's annoying, lol.

I'll tell you this much, that I-405 is worse overall, as it carries an excessively high traffic volume, from about 5 a.m., all the way until past midnight (at least on the westside of LA). I-880, however, is more susceptible to major accidents, and is probably one of the most unpredictable freeways...you never know if you can cruise through at the limit at 3 p.m. on a Wednesday, or be stuck in stop-and-crawl traffic. Peak hour traffic along most of I-880 is always a real chore, too.
@FreewayBrent11 жыл бұрын
