This was the last place the love of my life and I went in July of 2002 and by September he passed away. It still hurts today , I miss him so much. We went to Providence for my birthday and then Boston for his work. Thank you for this video I remember our time on this road.

Rhode Island should get the Nordic Lodge award for the best looking refurbished & new interstate bridges, with an eye still on the mid 20th century styling.

In all of my years of working I have painted just about every single highway in Massachusetts and RI, many times. I worked on the new exit 26 split add a lane 95 to 93.

US interstate is quite simply the best highway system in the world by a margin.

Definitely Although it ain’t the safest due to terrible drivers which sucks because if we invested in better and maybe change some of the layout of the interstate system then it would definitely be the safest and best Highway system however it’s just the best right now

@World Of Gaming well. No road with speed will ever be completely safe including trains on tracks. Road rage and drivers in a hurry to get to their destination makes them worse. Only of they learn to enjoy the journey itself instead of destinations alone.

Is it really the best? I'm not that familiar with other countries, but I feel like our interstates come with massive costs to our cities. Freeways charge right through most of our cities, making them split off more urban areas, and making alternatives to cars (bus, biking, walking etc.) pretty non-viable (or at least, not attractive to most people). Beyond that, there's also a ton of development along interstates, which makes getting places painful (e.g., getting between San Diego and anywhere Northern California requires going through terrible LA traffic, since there's no beltways that bypass, they're all developed). I've heard other countries tend to be better about segregating cars and freeways outside their cities, and that's much better urban design. definitely great in terms of getting across the country though - not sure how other countries compare. We definitely have it good in terms of well paved roads that link up all the different states. And definitely crazy good considering the distances involved and how much maintenance must be required to keep up paved roads across all that distance. Went on a trip from SD to a small town in New Mexico and that trip was extremely smooth, great roads the whole way. Guess maybe I'm comparing apples to oranges? We might have better cross-country auto travel at the expense of the cities, though I feel like the costs to our cities outweigh the benefits to most people of cross-country auto travel.

Feels surreal getting to see where I grew up for several years in the early 2000s. My old neighborhood was near the very last two exits! The Dunkin Donuts is still there after all these years too. Family would go to Boston all the time from there and the nearby mall too.

The drive from Providence, RI to Boston and vice versa is only an hour drive along I-95. The drive between two closest state capitals gets busy everyday. If it's congested, then the lanes have to be widened into 8 or 10 lanes, but widening I-95 is expensive. Also, the southern I-95/I-495 MA interchange marks the county line of Bristol and Norfolk Counties dividing Metropolitan Providence and Greater Boston.

Wasn't I-95 supposed to be routed through downtown Boston originally?
@edwardrasmussen3465
@edwardrasmussen3465 Жыл бұрын
Yes it was. All freeway contruction inside MA 128 except for the I-93 viaduct in Boston and Somerville was cancelled in 1972 by Governor Francis Sargent. That resulted in I-95 being routed around Boston on Route 128, and I-93 being extended south of the end of the viaduct along the (now demolished) Central Artery, Southeast Expressway and the 7 miles of Route 128 to connect with I-95 in Canton.

@@edwardrasmussen3465 how come they didn't reroute cancelled I-95 northeast expressway and upgraded US-1 from Malden to Peabody?
@pokemonred2005
@pokemonred2005 8 күн бұрын
@@maroon9273the original plan was for the Northeast Expressway to continue through Saugus to Peabody (I-95 was actually signed via the current I-93 up to the Tobin Bridge for this reason), and construction IIRC was allowed to proceed because the southern bit was already under construction (I-93 on both ends of the Artery was also under construction, which is why it was completed). Because of concerns of the residents over how the Northeast Expressway would decimate a sensitive swamp, the project was cancelled and I-95 was routed via Route 128. I imagine they could have upgraded the Newburyport Turnpike, but it would have been just as difficult as the greenfield route through swampland because of all of the businesses upon the roadway.
