Not usually into chick flicks as they were called but I watched the movie that gave this song an emotional gravitas that you just cannot understand until you hear it in the context of that movie. I met her in 1970. She was playing the Acid Queen in the first ever staging of the Who's rock opera Tommy by the Seattle Opera. My brother's band was the pit band. I went backstage, she saw me and called to me saying "you must be Mike's sister!". She ran over (which was hard for her to do because she's very short and at that time always wearing high heels) and gave me a huge hug. From that moment I loved her forever. Warm, personable, immensely talented and just fun to be around.

My brother had been the youngest of 6 kids when I came along. He had a lot of serious health problems. But he never stopped singing and smiling. I gave this song to him. He had it played at his funeral. He was only 39. The best big brother. I also had it at my Dad's. My Heroes

Just a little FYI...In this case, Bette is pronounced as Bet. So it's pronounced as Bet Midler. I have been a fan since her early days back in the 70s and I have been fortunate enough to have seen her live twice, both times in Cleveland. Boy what a show she puts on! She's absolutely fantastic! Also, back when she first started out in NYC, her pianist was Barry Manilow, who was also just starting out at the time.
