Almost blew this one off bc all I heard was "Meh, it's just a reskin" But I'm so glad I watched Board Game Junkies do a playthrough. Changed my mind and bought it immediately. No regrets!

Played it shortly after SPIEL and really enjoyed it. I read and now can't unsee that the green card at 5:08 looks like Zac Efron. :D

Luckily I ignored 7 Wonders Duel. For one thing, I don't play many two-player games. For another, I never liked the original 7 Wonders (I bought it when it first came out, played it about ten times, got at least the first expansion, then sold the lot. (The cards were way larger than they needed to be, I didn't like some of the balance aspects, never really get on with drafting games, and civ building is an over-used theme that barely exists in 7W. Plus I prefer 7 Wonders Architects!) But I picked this up a fortnight ago. I've yet to persuade the other half to play it, mind you. (Unfortunately I appear to be one of the few people in the world who don't like Vincent Dutrait's artwork, here or in anything except Heat. If only Duel had been illustrated by John Howe).

My wife has beat me every time we’ve played. First, she ran board and won by area control and then has beat me by controlling four of seven areas after all the cards have been drawn.

It is. but still the mechanics need to be fitting for your tastes as well otherwise it still might fall flat!

I mean sure. But sometimes enjoyment trumps any concern about balance/luck as well and this does for me at least right now
