Of all the albums in my current vinyl record collection I can confidently say this new addition takes top billing. I'm ecstatic to check it off my wishlist, especially because I had pretty much written off ever owning this one on vinyl. Let's unveil it, clean it, and spin it LOUD! 🤘🏻

About 20 years ago my roomate looking at all my records asked me what my holy grail record would be. I said easy, Aenima by Tool. Then she said that her ex boyfriend had left some records in the garage and thought that might be one. Sure enough in the dusty cobweb 100 Year old garage in an antique metal milk crate was 2 records. Pearl Jam No Code, and Aenima. With the bmg logo!still my most prized possession, and perhaps my favorite album of all time.

@@NTXVinyl I actually made a second comment that youtube deleted (probably because I included a link in it) but while I have you here I did want to say that I think you actually have the 1st (1996) or the 3rd (1997) pressing rather than the 2nd! I made my first comment while you were still unwrapping the album, but as soon as you got to the part where you showed the labels I saw that they were most definitely the 1st or 3rd pressings as the 2nd pressing I own has a much darker gray label that has very faint lines (to where you can only barely read the text/see the designs). If you google Tool Aenima Vinyl Versions you will find a Tool Vinyl Buyers Guide that details the differences between the 3 pressings (and also lists a bunch of the bootlegs as well). I'm pretty sure all 3 versions sound exactly the same sonically, with the biggest differences being the labels themselves, and all 3 go for similar prices and are equally sought after, so don't worry, you still have a great one haha =)
@NTXVinyl
@NTXVinyl 2 жыл бұрын
@@strahljd I’ll look for that link to compare as well But of the 3 on Discogs I think I’m correct. My LPs are definitely NOT 180gram, so it’s not the 1997. And mine only has the Zoo logo in bottom right by UPC, whereas the first press has both Zoo and BMG logos. These labels and those things I mentioned above match this one perfectly: www.discogs.com/release/1700716-Tool-%C3%86nima
@strahljd
@strahljd 2 жыл бұрын
@@NTXVinyl Very interesting! Actually since you pointed that out I took another look and noticed for the first time that the info on the Tool Vinyl Buyers Guide (which is what I used to identify my copy) doesn't match the info on Discogs after all. According to Discogs, my copy with the dark gray labels is actually the 1st pressing, which would make you correct about yours being the 2nd...I was mistakenly thinking mine was the 2nd this whole time haha! (I tried to link the discogs page for my copy but youtube deleted it again...if you want to see that page for my copy it's the very first LP entry in the listing for Aenima)
@strahljd
@strahljd 2 жыл бұрын
@@NTXVinyl To further add to the confusion, the Tool Vinyl Buyers Guide say both versions A and B were released on the same day (Sept 17 1996) so perhaps they just have the version letters reversed. There's definitely no doubt that both our copies are the respective 1996 versions :)

I remember those years. Those 94-2000 years, vinyl was all but dead. The problem was, lack of internet, you didn't know what was even ON vinyl, you had to look through goldmine mag, go to record conventions, or just hope you stumbled across a store that had new vinyl, and when they did, it wasn't much. I ordered online, there was literally nowhere near me that had sealed new vinyl. 45s and 12inchers were plentiful, but that's it. Virgin megastore opened in 97, they had some and got more as the years went by. Hot Topic started to carry vinyl in 99, and i lived there, even though they didn't have much. They had NOS Aenima until like 2003ish. Wasn't till 2004 that my local indie stores started getting new sealed vinyl.

Such a great point! You’re exactly right. You could only buy what your local shops had…and by mid-90’s that was a VERY TINY selection of vinyl, if any.

Well Sir, On Ebay I saw a copy (vinyl) of your holy Grail for AU$ 270,00 and another one for eur 550,00 from a seller in Italy. A CD version costs about eur 5,00 (USD 7,50) so peanuts I suppose it is recorded digitally (so a vinyl version and a cd version more or less sound the same) In my view this idea of acquiring (per se) the vinyl version and paying 75 times more than the CD version (sounding the same) is absurd. I do not want to hurt your feelings far from it. But this fascination of per se wanting to own the vinyl version to me is incomprehensible. Please calrify. Have a nice day. PS I do not like their(Tool,s) music,but that is entirely beside the point.

Don’t worry, you won’t hurt my feelings. You’re assuming the only reason I want to own an album on vinyl vs CD is sound. That’s only a part of it. I don’t collect CDs, nor do I even own a CD player. I collect vinyl. It’s a totally different experience. It makes you commit to listening to it. The packaging and art are more grand, and my entire room/system is set up with vinyl in mind. I already own the CD of this album. That has no barring on whether or not I also want to own the LP.

It’s also worth mentioning, as I I state in the video, that I did not pay a dime of cash for this. I traded other LPs for it.

@@NTXVinyl I also prefer vinyl to digital sound. But with me it is not either /or though . There are a lot of advantages the CD format has. What I find striking is that people are prepared to pay $300,00 for an LP version of the CD that they can acquire for say $ 3,00 dollar . Way out of proportion and no fun anymore. I assume you buy the record with the intention of spinning it for your pleasure and not as an investment

Well, it's a CD for me, not an LP I look for, but it's amazing to look at something like that. If you don't collect CD's this is definitely a grail. CD has this lenticular "multi-image" jewel case so this is one of the few jewel cases I didn't threw out.

Still have that CD somewhere. I didn’t keep too many of my jewel cases, but the cooler ones I didn’t hang onto as well. The 10,000 CD was cool as well, and Lateralus had a slip case too. All very well done.
