I Added Animals Into My Giant Rainforest Vivarium

I created my dream tank, a 1000 gallon cloud rainforest vivarium, and constructing it has been quite a journey. It is fully stocked with tropical plants, automated climate control, and even some creatures that managed to sneak in through the terrarium decor. However, the goal of the vivarium experiment was to recreate and study a rainforest ecosystem so to complete the project, I needed to add more animals. Little did I know, doing so would amp up the biological action within the vivarium in a way that I could never have predicted. Hope you enjoy Part 6 of my ecosystem vivarium series. Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

As someone who has worked at PetSmart working with crickets for over 2 years. I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, that crickets, through some sort of unholy dark magic, no matter how small or avoidable it is, will always find a way to drown themselves in a body of water and die. So I don't think you need to worry to much about the other insects drowning, this is just what crickets do lol.

That sounds like an incredible journey into creating a miniature ecosystem! Adding animals to a giant rainforest vivarium must bring such a dynamic and lively aspect to it. It's fascinating how each creature plays a role in maintaining the balance of this mini rainforest. The idea of replicating nature's complexity on a smaller scale is truly a remarkable endeavor. I can imagine the vivid colors and diverse behaviors of the animals adding so much vibrancy to the vivarium. It's a beautiful way to connect with nature and appreciate the intricacies of different habitats. Keep exploring and enjoying the wonders of the natural world! 🌿🐸🦋

I wouldn't put House Geckos with ants, because they're prey to the ants; its true ants can't catch geckos, but there's nowhere that gecko can hide that the ants can't reach. The ants can just bite the gecko continously and wear the health of the gecko down till it expires. :(

The mullet fish would be a great addition to your pond if you're still looking for one! Certain species of mullet, such as the striped mullet, are detritivores, feeding on organic matter found in sediment and detritus on the ocean floor.the striped mullet (Mugil cephalus) is known to inhabit both marine and freshwater habitats, including estuaries, rivers, and ponds. These fish are adaptable and can tolerate a wide range of salinities, allowing them to thrive in various aquatic environments!

Sad about the poor Gecko :( I think it very likely that she could have been overwhelmed by how many ants you have in there. That vivarium was essentially a torture chamber for that poor gecko. Outnumbered by thousands of ants in a space that's still a small enclosure when you consider that they occupy a range of probably a couple kilometers in the wild. Nature is brutal but when we manipulate it according to our human whims it becomes a bit uncanny and sadistic.

Im being so serious, you should have your own TV network you can run from your home like this with more resources for you bugs. This is the kind of content kids should watch to really learn about nature. You would absolutely be held in the same regards as shows like blues clues, wild kratz, the electric company, ect

No kidding but he handled the roaches fine. I will be dead. I hate roaches. I move the earth worms all the time I my pot garden. They like to hang under the pots and if I move the pot they panic as they hate heat light and sun and I just place them somewhere shady and moist to crawl in the ground. I even got used to pick slugs with bare hands and spiders but roach is bit too far for me for now.

For the water, you want scuds. They're native to every corner of the world, and are relentless scavengers that will pick apart ANY source of protein they have access to. All your other options like fish or amano shrimp will be too large to produce new generations in that pond like you want for this ecosystem. They play nice with daphnia magna (filter feders), and freshwater isopods (substrate feeders).

I am honestly concerned that the number of ant colonies will cause an imbalance in the ecosystem by killing a lot of wildlife at a rate faster than they can replenish. The fire ants are one of the biggest concerning factors, but you didn’t show them this episode. Are they still around?
@AntsCanada
@AntsCanada 3 ай бұрын
Fire ants weren't seen while shooting this episode. I'm still hoping there was no queen introduced (just workers) and they are dying out now. I know it may look like the ants are dominating and totally filling all areas of the tank due to the tight closeup shots, if you look carefully at the wider shots that show the true scale of the tank, you'll see that the ants are only minor players in the vivarium. It still lacks the ant biodiversity of a cloud rainforest. I remember being in Mt. Banahaw shooting the Blue Ant episode in awe at how many ants and nests were crammed into any given smallish space.
