i adopted a cat (because im lonely)

hey guys! this week i adopted a cat for the very first time! he is a senior boy living in his golden years, so he pretty much just sleeps and snuggles & im loving every second! do you think i should keep his name as ‘Loki’ or change it to ‘Dior’?
update: i have had Dior for about a week and he is literally just the sweetest old boy! We had his first check-up and he is actually about 12-13 years old instead of 10! I’ve spent so much time spoiling him and I feel so honored to share his golden years with him 🥰
as much as people may feel i gave him the greatest Christmas gift by bringing him home, i wish he knew it is one of the greatest gifts ive given to myself.
thank you so nuch Beatrice Humane Society for all the work you do and never giving up on any animal that runs through your shelter, Dior deserved a home and i cannot thank you enough for letting me get to spoil this sweet boy.

I adopted a 13 year old cat with a sad life story. As a kitten, "Miss Kitty" as I named her, had been hit by a car. It created a problem with her hind quarters. She could move her bowels, but had trouble because the damage from the accident broke some bones and made the opening to pass her bowels severely constricted. She had been in a shelter her ENTIRE life, because no one wanted to have to risk spending a large amount of money due to injuries from the accident. The shelter named her "Skid Mark" (which I found cruel) because when she was brought in to them, you could still see the tire marks on her back. I gave her one terrific year, until the degeneration from the accident closed her up so that she could no longer move her bowels unless she had diarrhea. It broke my heart, but I had to make THAT decision. Many, many tears were shed. But I take such solace in knowing that I gave Miss Kitty the happiest year of her life, free from looking through the bars of the various cages she lived in throughout her life.

That first moment when Loki realized that he was not in a cage, but a house is so precious! He's a beautiful boy and if he seems a little shy, remember that he has a past that you know little of. He may have been lost or put out by someone or his owner may have passed away. It's up to you to give him all the love he can accept. I'm sure he'll fall in love with you I'm no time! Siamese cats only love one way...completely! He is such a gorgeous fellow! You, young woman, are beautiful, too! What a pair you make!

This is so wonderful! Here's a suggestion.... try to see him as a "cat" and not so much as a "senior cat".... kitties can live - and be quite active - well into their 20s! High quality wet food (Weruva is a great brand), lots of play time and of course love and Dior could very well be with you for awhile!

I've adopted five elderly cats in the last ten years. I'm so happy for this guy! You can trim his nails if they're catching on furniture and clothes. Also, they can't clean themselves as well as they get older so I buy little cat wipes. Just wipe him off and brush him...he'll probably enjoy it. BTW, Wilson lived to be 17, we had him for five years. We had his brother, Sebastian, until he was 19. Charles lived to be 17. Bonnie, who just died, was with us for four years and she was about 16 but had kidney problems. You don't know how long you'll have Dior, but he will live a wonderful life with you, I'm sure.

Dior is just beautiful, and so are you - adopting him and giving him such a great home. Seniors are some of the last cats, or dogs, adopted, if at all. You did an awesome thing. He's got that little tooth thing going on, like our senior Grizz. Kind of looks like Grizz a bit, too Our oldest cats were 22. So you could have Dior for some time 😸 And you'll both love every minute. Adopting a senior cat is the best thing ever! They really, really know you're giving them a second chance My husband and I were just talking about this tonight - we took an abandoned senior cat off the streets before he finally died from the cold. I couldn't stand watching him all squinched up, trying to stay warm. Someone was feeding him, but wouldn't let him inside. he does have a brain tumor that we’ve discovered! however is heavily monitored & is on pain meds & seizure meds to make him comfortable ☺️ otherwise all is normal and he’s a happy kitty who still loves to play and snuggle!!

Truly these two found eachother. I had a rescued siamese mixed cat for many years. Just like your guy he had been the most sweet and thankful cat ever. Btw the looking at you for longer periods ist very normal for siamese cats, it's their way of showing their love.

I have adopted a senior Snowshoe Siamese. He was 12 and had character and it was the beginning of four years of love. It was genuinely worth it! He was so cuddly and human oriented! Since this I have adopted three more elder cats and the reward for me has been well worth it!

Senior cats are the best! They are so appreciative of everything you do for them. Yes, kittens are adorable but they only stay kittens for a little while. Senior cats are more mellow and, in my experience, are more interested in interacting with you than kittens, who are busy chasing around burning off all that energy. I only adopt older adult cats. More people should give them a try.

My ex had a 22 year old Siamese. The color and markings on Dior's face and his blue eyes remind me a lot of my see cat except my old boy is long haired Blue Lynx ragdoll. When i was a kid we had Siamese cats & some are cross eyed that is so cute i think. He can have dry food for in between his wet meals. Keep his Cat box in a seperate area where he has privacy to go poddy. Lots of luck w your new furbaby & so wonderful for you to adopt a Senior Kitty. 🐈‍⬛🐾💞💞

You have to earn a cats trust. They’re not like dogs where they will love anybody that glances their way. Once he knows you’re going to keep him and take care of him. He will be devoted to you. You have to earn his trust because that’s how cats are. He’s beautiful and I’m so glad you took him home with you. Just love him and he will love you back. God bless you for giving him, a golden life in his golden years. I have two golden cats. One is 15 and is very healthy and one is 14 and has just been diagnosed with diabetes, but I will give her the best life ever for whatever time I have with her. He is so beautiful, he reminds me of our Blue Point Siamese cat. He was born September 1st 1966, he passed 1980. Sammy was a gift for my Mom from her friend. We went to breeder in Manhattan, my Dad wanted a Russian Blue. So when I saw him, knew he was perfect for my Dad. They were best buds for years. 8 years after he passed we adopted a Black and White Tuxedo cat, who was half Russian Blue. He had been badly abused by his first owner. We got him when he was 10 months old.

My 3rd cat (Valjean) was a street adoption here in Korea. He was skinny and dirty and matted in 2017 when he came to live here. He has stomatitis, which we treated with meds for years. 2020 he had dental extractions (except his 4 fangs) and it was a game changer. My guy is estimated at 10 now. He’s up to 15 pounds! Triple his adoption weight, but still smaller than his brother. I’m glad Loki/Dior has a nice place to live his life!

I heard the same thing.. cats should get wet food (because they don't drink enough and they can get dehydrated) if they get water in their wet food, that's good for them. He is impossibly sweet ..but so are you and I hope you have a lot of time together.. He's probably smart enough, but my brother says, 'there's unsupervised toys and supervised toys' - you shouldn't give them feathers unsupervised, cause they could eat/chew them and choke on them

Older cats needs home and they are also the best💕 They will not destroy your house, will always want cuddles, they are amazing😸 I know people usually dont adopt older cats bc of vets bills but cats are way cheaper than dogs. I have a 2y pitbull with allergies and per year its about 1000$(cytopoint, skin&ear infections, medicated shampoo) on vet bills and my 6y cat cost 80$ (check up & glands, no vaccines inside cat only😁). Also when you adopt an older cat they are already spayed/neutered so you dont have the hassle of the healing process👏(Try to stop you cat from jumping after a spay at home🤦)

He's a keeper. I've had cats in my life for 60 years and wow. Our first cat was a fighter, he loved to fight us. He had 3 preteen boys to fight with, and he did. His name was Combat, and he adored my mother. He passed away the very day my first son was born, a happy/sad day. All except Combat have been rescues, as have all our dogs. One of our current cats (of 2) had such a horrendous upbringing, it is still dangerous to touch her, but she is loved and cared for the best we can. Her previous family thought it fun to throw her (as a kitten) to their hunting dogs for them to chase. We grabbed her one day and told the mongrels that if they had any objections they could tell the cops and we would show them the videos of their actions. Your elderly gentleman will watch over you, he may be standoffish with visitors when first met, but he will devote himself to you. I'm up at 4am each morning and "Tash" greets me, I make their small breakfast and she sits with me at the computer. We share this time together but if I try to show her some love she bites me quite hard, most times drawing blood, but I accept it without question knowing her past, she is so, so beautiful, there is a beautiful cat inside and she wants to be noticed and needs to be loved. There are 8 humans (4 grandchildren, their parents and my Wife (and me)) in the house plus 2 dogs, 2 cats and about 100 birds. And believe it or not, the cats couldn't care less about our birds, but they keep the scavenger birds and other cats away from them. My Wife hand rears baby birds thrown from the nest and Tash will sit on the kitchen bench beside the babies in their bed and watch as my Wife prepares their food and feeds them. Never once has she tried to grab any of the babies, she is such a treasure. All our dogs have also been rescues and we have been married 44 years next month, our current 2 were on death row, one was going to be shot and the other was on its way to get put down, daughter almost beat up the first owner, grabbed the pup and ran off, my Wife did similar with the second.
