Watching burrowing animals burrow for the first time is my favorite thing ever, I remember seeing all my mice burrowing for the first time and I've never felt more proud, 2 of them were rescues that I got from very poor conditions and had never gotten the chance to make burrows and I later got a baby feeder mouse who I fell in love with and couldn't leave behind and her first burrow was amazing because she kept trying to dig in the shallow bedding of the feeder bin so when she got into the deep 10inch+ bedding she was just immediately under.

I realize this video is over a year old but youtube just recommended it to me so.. HI! The last bit of this video got me all heart eye emoji-ing... My recent rescue hammy is also an orangey long haired syrian and looks almost exactly like this little floof. He was in a tiny critter trail and barely fit his tubes! I got a 75 gallon tank off facebook marketplace lol yay for cheap tank finds! The afternoon I brought him home, he spent like 5 hours running on his new big boy wheel... he didn't even fit in his previous wheel. The following morning, I noticed some bedding disturbed in the bottom of his tank and I got proud mama moments too, all excited that he had burrowed for the first time in his life.

I’m like unable to ignore hamsters being neglected so I keep taking in more!! The reptile section is the bestttt part of the pet store like I swear the only place I shop for hamsters is the reptile section! It looks really great! The only things I'd suggest would be adding some more bedding as the tank is very tall and hamsters thrive from additional burrowing room (you may need to make a lid, I suck at that so I use playpen panels 😂). Also would benefit from a multi chambered house or sand bath (they need at least 2 hides to help them feel secure). Really impressed with how much you learnt in such a short time span!

You did such a good job!! Idk if you already know this, but when cleaning the cage you should reuse part of the bedding bc they'll get stressed when put into a completely new environment. Oh and if the water bottle doesn't work (or you dont like the look of it) you could also just use a bowl, since drinking out of a bottle is unnatural for them :) These are just tiny tips since you obviously did a great job at researching and giving the lil guy a great enclosure

I would add a lot more bedding in there just because you can and Syrians are much bigger so they need more space than 6 inches to borrow. Especially because the aquarium is so tall you have a lot of room to do it and it’s fine if the wheel is sticking out to the top because they cant get out from the wheel. Just as long as you don’t have anything to tall on the edges of the cage. How ever many inches your hamsters is plus 2 is how many inches there needs to be from the top of the cage to the bedding to make sure he can’t get out. And I personally use a water bowl cause it’s more natural but both bowl and bottle are fine
