Did Rajini mean raja air music faded in early 90’s? Not sure whom Rajini meant as audience? My concern is both Rajini and Raja sir are good human by nature and not sure something not went well between them after certain period..but I don’t agree with Rajini’s statement or opinion that he gave for why ARR over RAJA sir..not at all agreeable..I am a big Kamal fan but I always respect Rajini in fact I support him on political aspect over Kamal.. for me Arts and Politics are two different dimensions which I see separately..sad part is, the betrayal and hypocrites that raja sir had seen and got from his industry..a man should be hugely applauded for the soulful and native music and the genius he is..we have missed in doing that so as his colleagues..

He wld do music only if they do this & praise him. So eventually when someone like ARR came it was bound to happen. Even after Roja's big success the entire industry didn't follow ARR. ARR too had a lull till Puthiyamugam but then came Gentleman & there was no looking back. If IR had realised at that time he wld have lasted far more years. Moreover ARR was v much cheaper than IR since he composed most of the music in his own studio with minimalistic instruments but the recording quality he gave was unmatched in India at that time. His sounds were crystal clear. Many music directors from the north even came to his studio & learnt few tricks from him about recording. ARR was far ahead of his times in that area & he beat IR using that effectively.

I still believe IR's tunes are much better than ARR's but he can't match him in sound quality. During initial days of ARR most us used to say that many of his songs are like dialogues and there is no tune like IR's but every one including me got used to it in time. By singing IR's & ARR's songs without music u can easily see that IR's songs will sound much better without music than ARR's. That's most budding singers sing mostly IR's songs than ARR's songs in competitions and on KZbin. Every thing said and done by no means both are lesser than the other. We are all blessed to have lived during their times & listen to their magical music.

@@SaiRajSwamy I don;t agree to most of your points..It seems u have not understood or known the betrayal and hypocrisy that Raja sir got from the industry.. Coming to the point that you have mentioned about posters, what's wrong in asking the music director pic to be included in the poster? I am not sure of your age but believe me in throughout 80's and early 90's, many films became blockbuster only for the sheer reason which is Raja sir music..If someone speaks from the heart without buttering or masks can be termed as "arrogant"..Many great directors travelled with IR till their last movie without changing..if ego or arrogant persist, why not they changed him? U need to see both the sides of the coin rather blaming only Raja sir..I 200% don't agree with your final part of ur comment even great ARR also won't agree..IR was way ahead of his times not in music becoz till he arrived, tamil film music was heavily influenced on hindi..With his arrival, he brought new or soulful flavour in music by doing lot of experiment as mixing western classical with folk, carnatic classical based, semi classical etc..He writes music and compose lively rather programming or creating music electronically..IR is pure genius and unmatchable till date in music..I am shocked to see your comment..He also shown to the wordl that he can compose music using electronic instrument in 1990 itself..Genius par excellence Raja sir always..

Most of the picturization of IR songs are just scarp except songs of stalwarts like Mahendran or Balu Mahendra. This had an impact on IR attitude towards directors as they lacked both situations and technicality. No surprise that IR disrespected new directors. Can’t accept IR cost too much as he would finish recordings in a quick period of time. There r few super hit movies still I can list out which stands only on IR songs without any solid story. ARR seen all these around in 80s it was a lesson for him to pick directors based on content and quality.. IR wasn’t as professional as ARR was, he pushed himself to help out directors out of personal concern and felt backstabbed when they went to ARR. just IR couldn’t digest things as he took things personally

@@Prasadhkk Boss during the 90s there was even a incident which I read in a few magazines that IR insulted director Mahendran when he tried to hug him during some meeting or function. During those days lot of such incidents where reported about IR so I can't vouch for the truth as it could also be a rumour. He also stopped talking with Balu Mahendra for a long time since he decided to give ARR(Roja) the national award instead of IR(Devar Magan). Balu Mahendra had even said this in an interview. Coming to your point Maniratnam was considered to be the best in song picturization but he was the one who introduced ARR. U can argue it was bcos of KB but the truth is he used Roja to get away from IR. IR gave fabulous songs to Maniratnam for all his movies. For me only a few of ARR-Maniratnam are g8 but IR-Maniratnam songs were & will be magical always. What u said is true that even garbage movies became a hit bcos of IR's songs eg., Aranmanai kili, Chinnathayi etc . That was also the main reason for his downfall. He started to think he was the most important person for a film which is not always true. Movies are a product of team work and each have a distinct role in the success of the film. Percentage may differ but it's team effort. I also think Rajini did not mean his opinion but the popular public opinion. When IR came to the industry with Annakili there was a ripple effect in the industry & among the public. The same thing happened after Roja & it was established that he was not a one time wonder after Gentlemen. I am a great fan of IR and I had many arguments with my friends who were ARR fans but we have to accept the fact that his throne was taken by ARR within a few years. If IR had compromised a little with his attitude he could have prolonged for many years at least at the number 2 spot but he had crossed that stage to accept the reality as he was a genius and genius don't accept destiny like the common folks do. After a v long time I loved his music in Psycho but if u could, pls watch the interview given by Mysskin where he says how he fought with IR to use Sid Sriram as the lead singer. IR mostly wont use singers introduced by ARR. RD Burman gave a mega blockbuster musical hit with "A 1942 love story" before he died. I wish IR emulates his feet for at least one last time. No one doubts his musical acumen but nowadays director are not ready to put up with his attitude except a few like Mysskin & Bala.
