I am American had been living abroad for >10 years and got scammed trying to purchase a vehicle off of FaceBook Marketplace upon my return to the US. I was unaware of CarFax at the time. I felt so stupid afterwards,. I lost $1,200. Money I could not spare at the time. I have been cured of trusting anybody now.

I hope you have contacted authorities or the number on the Carfax to report all this. And you already know ... Keep those text messages with the guy. On your last video when you mentioned that there were "supposedly" two other interested buyers, my radar went off. That is one of the ploys that scammers and even legitimate sales people use, to pressure people into securing the sale immediately. "Hurry or you'll miss out!" Yep. Find out the status of the vehicle. Tell the authorities you know where the vehicle is and who has it and turn them in. Let the Police investigate from there. It's not your concern.

Stream Rv in North Carolina is where I found my 2000 Chinook Destiny in 2018. I’ve been across the US 4 times with it and it is the best vehicle/home I’ve ever owned. I highly recommend buying one from a reputable dealer like Stream RV. They are professional and legal. It’s worth the money.

Have you thought about a shuttle bus? Still a diesel in many of them, already have great windows and the 2nd AC for the rear. You can find them where the city/state has maintained them and for a decent price. I think it would be a lot faster than converting a skooli again. Just a thought because I don’t think - unless you are buying older that an RV is the way to go either.

One of the reasons I’ve waited so long is my home. We own our home, and we wanted to always have a home to go to say for medical reasons, one of us gets sick etc. I am on disability, I get medical supplies monthly so just another reason to have a home..One thing we know we must do is have good insurance on our on the road vehicle we choose, also have a permanent home to always have the choice to go back too. Insurance on the on the road vehicle cost a lot but it’s so important. Anyway, my advise is always have a home base, as you do Jaylena….So you have definitely made good choices 😊 Something I’ve noticed about you too is you have learned SO MUCH, and the choices you guys are making that includes your little one, I’m just so amazed and happy to see you put her first and foremost. Just another reason having your home is important..that sweet baby girl 😊 Can’t wait to see the end result on your new cruise ✌️

From what I've seen Chinooks have 2 roll bars built into the frame, 1 somewhere behind the cab area and one further back supposedly making them much safer. It would be a good choice if you were able to find a good one. The universe will reward your good character in the best way for you.

As one who owns a factory Chinook, I can verify that there are no roll cages. However, its unibody design is like a roll cage which gives it the durability the chinook is known for. The universe rewards us all who are in goodness as you did here today. 😉

Good on you. I think a Chinook is a terrrific choice among RVs, if you're going to get a standard manufactured RV. They are of higher quality than most others. The difficulty for you is that they stopped making them quite some years ago, which means finding a highly specific combination of specs will be *absurdly* difficult unless they were all very popular together. Then it needs to be available for sale. Then there's the price range you can afford --- the add you showed us said $14,500? These units, even in need of repairs or tires and maintenance are probably closer to $25K. Here in Canada they're more like $50K all things being equal. My best suggestion? Save save save, and save some more while you continue your search --- and while building up that cash-pile, establish a *good relationship* with your bank and credit providers so when the time comes you'll be able to more easily borrow a small amount to help you when you find "the one" (should you still be a few $$ short). Your hair is really cute! My daughter was selling one of her fathers vehicles and 3 guys showed up. Only one spoke English and said he had a drivers license. They were told they’d need to go with her to the titling place to get the title changed before she’d give them the car. Her father had passed and needed to show death certificate. Well they made it part way there and stopped. Told her they didn’t want to go to the titling place. That they could do the paperwork later or they don’t want it. They drove 4 hours to get here. They did not take it home. Years ago we had a situation we sold to a dealer. Don’t want to do that again. Vehicle sold to a local family for their kids. Hubby would have been happy with that. Glad you are a wise woman with good people around you.

Also check the ID of the person selling the RV or any vehicle. RV's are typically ownded by older people and the owner may have passed away. Few want to re-title a vehicle after the owner has passed. Drove 200 miles to one only to find the seller was not the person on the title. He had no idea how to contact the person on the title.

Oooh! Jaylena! You missed a bullet big time! When I was your age, I went to a father and son business and bought a car..buy here pay here deal. I bought one car paid it off and bought another car..he had really good deals..The second car I got home and 3 months later..I was going to trade the second cat for a brand new one one. The people at the dealership said the Vin # has been filed off and there was a fake state issued sticker in the door. I went straight to the DMV and told them the story and the next day, This father and son had a major bust for selling hot cars and went to jail ❤❤😂😂🎉🎉🎉

Yep. This is the one I figured you had your eye on. You are correct...the new owners probably couldn't get the vehicle titled in their name due to these issues and the original owner may have filed a report that it was stolen because they are still legally the owners and are legally responsible for it until that title is in someone else's name. I sold my Mercedes a few years ago and the new owner did not transfer the title over right away. He ran red lights, didn't pay tolls on toll roads, so I was getting all of these tickets in my name in the mail with photographs of the Mercedes on the toll roads or going through the red lights. I had to contest each one, citing that I filed the seller's slip with the DMV, so the car was no longer legally my responsibility. However, it was getting so ridiculous, I considered reporting it stolen. The guy who bought it from me was very rude and was not responsive at all to my requests to get the title transferred. So, it does make sense that the new owner(s) tried selling it because they could not legally take possession. The original owner probably started this issue and was the original dishonest person that caused this ripple effect. Such a shame. Looks like a great vehicle outside of that issue.

You were lucky This Time. I bought an old class A from a co worker. Had low miles which was true. But had many hidden problems. You won't find anything that old that is not like a grenade ready to go off. It's just age. Lucky for me this one was documented every yearly trip to Fla. like clockwork added up but the body mounting screws were all corroded and structural wood compromised. But I repaired all that and would have doubled the cost. You are rolling the dice however it comes out. I lost it in a divorce. End of story😅

I know you would rather live in a rig, but this might also be an opportunity to re-think what is best for Ember (and keep in mind, I'm only asking the question) If you are going to be sharing time and custody with Issac. Are you sure living in a rig (while you have her) is best for her? (Since you are moving out of the house) Perhaps consider finding an apartment so you have a home base for you and her and buying/building a rig later for your travels?

Our 1983 16 ' Scamp travel trailer was stolen in 2021. Eventually some one will try to title it and it will be impounded. There is a list of stolen trailer. Non motorized RVs are not a high priority for law enforcement, but RVs with a motor are because of the class of the crime. If it doesn't have a clean title you don't want it. You are so lucky you found out before you purchased it. We have purchased a sedan that had a salvaged title but we didn't pay much for it and we knew what we were purchasing. It turned out to be the perfect around town kid car until we didn't need it anymore and sold it for what we purchased it for 3 years earlier... when we purchased the vehicle in the first place we figured out we could sale some of the major parts for what we paid for it and the sale the body for scraps and come out ahead. With older RVs it is a lot more work to part them out and recoup your cost.

I have another comment you asking about internet dealings. It was around the year 2002. My wife had passed away the year previous + that she had left tonys for me to have the antique car that I wanted for many years and I located one in York, Pennsylvania. I am from New York Rochester area and we came to agreement. This was an eBay deal + I won the auction and I paid the money and never received the and unfortunately it was just before eBay had that insurance. In case you get well screwed on a deal they would reimburse after investigation and so I got stuck for $8,000 + I never recovered from that

I went to buy a chinook a few years ago and like you loved the style and look. The sales person said you don't want a chinook they are full of problems. There are so many different RV's out their, but they need to come down in price. Good luck you will figure it out and def do a carfax. Your hair looks great.

Ah yes... vehicles with sketchy VINs... I got a story for you... (go grab a drink...) In 2007 I bought a truck off eBay from a seller in northwest PA. When transferring a title in PA, no PennDOT official really checks anything. They sort of leave that to the annual safety & emissions inspection process. So I buy the truck and drive it home to where I live near Philadelphia (also in PA). After a week or so, I take it to my long time inspection garage (inspections are done my private shops in PA). Later in the day, I get a call - "Hi. Is this truck stolen?" "WHAT??? How?" "It's got two VINs. The dash VIN and the body VIN don't match. Come down and take a look." So I get down to the shop before they close and see what they're talking about. I right down the two numbers and get a Car Fax account. Then I start to pieces together what likely happened. Part of why I bought the truck is because I wanted a rather specific truck - Dodge Cummins, 4WD, Extended cab with an 8' bed and - this was the kicker - a MANUAL transmission. Fairly rust free (remember I live in the rust belt). This proved to be a rather difficult combination to find. This truck checked all of the boxes and was more or less a price I could afford. It was listed as "Rust free truck, used to haul a camper from PA to FL..." The frame did have welded on tie-down points for a slide-in camper. When I ran the VINs through Car Fax, I was able to figure out what happened. The seller didn't exactly lie... he just didn't really tell the whole truth. Dash VIN - in PA this is the important one since that one needs to match the engine - especially important since the truck is a diesel and the emissions requirements are vastly different than for a gas engine truck. The dash VIN came up as a "1995 Dodge 4WD, Diesel 5 spd transmission with mileage matching the truck and the listing and ownership history throughout Ohio and western PA (basically - it was a farm truck). No accident reports. (Note - no mention of cab style)" The Body VIN showed, "1996 Dodge Club Cab, V10, Automatic, 2WD. Some minor accident reports and owner history in PA and FL." But, if I had run the dash VIN through Car Fax prior to the sale, nothing would have immediately flagged anything as being odd, since it didn't mention anything about the cab style. Helps to remember what things were like back in 2007. After Katrina hit the Gulf coast in 2005, gas prices shot up like a rocket and while they were drop some, they never really returned to pre-Katrina levels. Woth noting that while gasoline prices shot up, diesel didn't go up as much. As such, values of used diesel cars and trucks went up. In 2007, prices were still really high. Diesel trucks still sold for good money (hasn't changed...). My WAG is the guys in PA had two trucks - a 1995 diesel 4x4 5 spd that ran well but was rusted out from 12 years of farm truck abuse in the rust belt. In the other corner, a 1996 relatively rust free truck with a club cab and an 8' bed, but with the undesirable, gas-guzzling V10. Worth noting is the Dodge V10 and Diesel trucks shared the same heavy duty frame - so with a lot of effort, combine the two into something easy to sell = profit! So that's what they did. I bought it. As I really looked at the truck, the above started to become apparent. A truck with a standard cab & 8' bed has a single drive shaft from the back of the transfer case to the rear differential. The club cab versions have a carrier bearing and a short shaft section between the bearing and the transfer case. That short section of drive shaft looked considerably newer than the rear section. The exhaust system was basically a straight section of 4" pipe welded to the down pipe from the turbocharger and run all the way back behind the rear wheel. No muffler. (Yes - it was freakin' loud). I had to add a muffler in order to pass inspection. More specifically - a resonator that merely looked like a muffler but basically did nothing to reduce the sound of a 12V Cummins. Fast forward a few years, life circumstances have changed and I don't need the truck anymore. It had also proved to be a royal PITA to own, but that is a different story and had nothing to do with the VINs (this is already long enough)... So I put it on Craigslist to sell. In the first sentence I say, "This truck has two VINs. It PA that hasn't been a problem, but let it be known" and I also price the truck accordingly (again - PITA and I really just want the POS out of my life...). A guy from MD buys the truck. Gets it down to MD - where someone from the DVM actually looks at these things - and MD won't issue a title for the truck. He ends up having to get it registered at a family member's house in PA. Thankfully, he accepted I had been upfront about the VIN issues so he didn't blame me. Lessons: If buying a truck, make sure ALL of the VINs on the vehicle match... and Car Fax is not infallible...
