To improve the farm you can place wither roses on all of the blocks so that only wither skeleton will be able to spawn. I had made this farm a month ago and added the wither roses and now it's 2 to 3 times faster than before

the thing with ian's farms is that you have to have everything prepared and done in exact order (unless you have a death wish, of course) you should have playtested and experimented in a creative world, not in your actual hardcore world.
