That is a misquote. That verse doesn't say that. Qur'an 5:33 ( Qur'an 5:32 in non-Arabic translations). It's a historical verse about the Children of Isreal( The Jews). It's not even a command. The next verse( where it does command to kill) Is the verse ordained for Muslims. Even at the beginning of 5:33 it say's it's ordained for the Children of Isreal ( the Jews). And the Qur'an makes it very clear that the Children of Isreal are the Jews and not Muslims.

Raafey Ansari, I have read over 50 Qur’an translations, I am also a linguist in ancient and foreign languages, my main field is language research and interpretation. I also read and studied how all the most respected Muslim scholars interpret the Qur’an. And studied the Sharia and all the most respected Muslim sources. But, if you believe that I’m reading the wrong Qur’an, which translation, would you recommend?

It's not you as a person, it is the ideology. Reform the ideology and live in peace with everyone in the west. Every Muslim person is fine. It's when they decide to, "be a better muslim" or "be a good muslim" that you lose them as friends and depending on how much they follow the Quran will be the extent to which they will not associate with non-muslim, discriminate against gay people, and eventually condone violence against the other religions. This is not something that is inherent in the other religions.

That's not what the Qur'an say's: I will tell you what Qur'an 5:33 say;s. In other translations, it's Qur'an 5:32 but in the Arabic, it's Qur'an 5:33 because the verses are ahead in the Arabic: Qur'an 5:33,"مِنْ أَجْلِ ذَٰلِكَ كَتَبْنَا عَلَىٰ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَنَّهُ مَن قَتَلَ نَفْسًا بِغَيْرِ نَفْسٍ أَوْ فَسَادٍ فِي الْأَرْضِ فَكَأَنَّمَا قَتَلَ النَّاسَ جَمِيعًا وَمَنْ أَحْيَاهَا فَكَأَنَّمَا أَحْيَا النَّاسَ جَمِيعًا وَلَقَدْ جَاءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُنَا بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ ثُمَّ إِنَّ كَثِيرًا مِّنْهُم بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ فِي الْأَرْضِ لَمُسْرِفُونَ" (Min ajli thalika katabna AAala banee isra-eela annahu man qatala nafsan bighayri nafsin aw fasadin fee al-ardi fakaannama qatala alnnasa jameeAAan waman ahyaha fakaannama ahya alnnasa jameeAAan walaqad jaat-hum rusuluna bialbayyinati thumma inna katheeran minhum baAAda thalika fee al-ardi lamusrifoona) In English: "From time that, We ordained on (the) Children (of) Israel that he who kills a soul other than (for) a soul or (for) spreading corruption in the earth then (it) is as if he has killed all [the] mankind, and whoever saves it then (it) is as if he has saved all [the] mankind. Notice how it says," as we have ordained for the children of Isreal" This is talking about what was commanded to the Jews and it's actually a historical verse. It's not a command for Muslims. It's Muhammad talking about what was ordained for the Jews long ago in the time of Moses. Muhammad was talking about this when he was declaring war against non-Muslims. Now, what is ordained for Muslims? The next verse Qur'an 5:34 ( In the Arabic) or in English it's a number down. to look this up go to Qur'an 5:32-33. Anyway here's the next verse( the one ordained for Muslims): In Arabic: "إِنَّمَا جَزَاءُ الَّذِينَ يُحَارِبُونَ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَيَسْعَوْنَ فِي الْأَرْضِ فَسَادًا أَن يُقَتَّلُوا أَوْ يُصَلَّبُوا أَوْ تُقَطَّعَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَأَرْجُلُهُم مِّنْ خِلَافٍ أَوْ يُنفَوْا مِنَ الْأَرْضِ ذَٰلِكَ لَهُمْ خِزْيٌ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَلَهُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ" (Innama jazao allatheena yuhariboona Allaha warasoolahu wayasAAawna fee al-ardi fasadan an yuqattaloo aw yusallaboo aw tuqattaAAa aydeehim waarjuluhum min khilafin aw yunfaw mina al-ardi thalika lahum khizyun fee alddunya walahum fee al-akhirati AAathabun AAatheemun) In English: "Only (the) recompense (for) those who wage war (against) Allah and His Messenger and strive in the earth spreading corruption (is) that they be killed or they be crucified or be cut off their hands and their feet of opposite sides or they be exiled from the land. The Qur'an say's that if you teach another religion, don't support Islamic law, not a Muslim, have Muslim friends or not a fully devoted Muslim, then you are a transgressor and a corrupter. What does this mean? It means if you're not Muslim, the Qur'an say's you are a corrupter and as we see in that second verse, that is how you are to be treated. the cutting off of limbs is for smaller crimes ( for a Muslim or someone paying the jizya tax). All Muslims who misquote this verse knows exactly what it means, but they lie about it. The context of this passage is that if you kill a Muslim or practice any other religion you must be punished. (I'm trying to break this down so it's not too much to read). also look up Ibn kathir on Qur'an 5:32-34. Ibn Kathir is the most respected Muslim scholar of all time by Muslims. Most Muslims in the world regard his teaching as being just as true as the Qur'an.

Mohamed Deyab, The Qur’an is using the children of Israel as an example, however the context of the verse is talking about Jews and Christians. And we know that the punishment is not for Muslims killing a non-Muslims because a Muslim is not allowed to be killed for killing a non-Muslim, it warns not to transgress the limits, and the Qur’an is very clear about what that means. As Muslims are commanded to fight against non-Muslims until they convert to Islam ( Qur’an 2:190-193, Qur’an 8:39, Qur’an 9:5). Qur’an 9:29-33 commands Muslims to fight against Jews and Christians just because of their beliefs. Also there’s Jihad with means ( in the context), war against non-Muslims.. Umdat as-Salik wa 'Uddat an-Nasik ( Reliance of the traveler), reference: o9.0 “ Jihad means war against the kafar ( non-Muslims) to establish Islamic law.” Ayatollah Mosavi Khomeini Little green book “Jihad means the conquest of all non- Muslim territories. Such a war may well be declared after the formation of an Islamic government worthy of that name, at the direction of the Imam or under his orders. It will then be the duty of every able-bodied adult male to volunteer for this war of conquest, the final aim of which is to put Qur'anic law in power from one end of the earth to the other.” Now as for the Hadith.. Yes, I know how what the Hadith is, how they were collected and how they were classified. The first two Hadiths i quoted are from the Sunnah, and they are both classified as “Sahih” which means to be reliable/authentic. Then I quoted a Shia Hadith. Let’s take a look at some more Hadiths from the Sunnah that are classified as Sahih: Sahih al-Bukhari 5158-“Narrated Urwa: ‘The Prophet wrote the (marriage contract) with Aisha while she was six years old and consummated his marriage with her while she was nine years old and she remained with him for nine years (i.e. till his death).” Sahih al-Bukhari 3896-“Narrated Hisham’s father: ‘Khadija died three years before the Prophet departed to Al-Madina. He stayed there for two years or so and then he wrote the marriage (wedding) contract with Aishah when she was a girl of six years of age, and he consummated that marriage when she was nine years old.” Now, as for the Shia source I quoted, is also classified as a strong Hadith by Shia scholars which means that they obviously agree with it. We know from the Qur’an that sex with child brides before they reach puberty is supported ( Qur’an 65:4). And the Ayatollah supports sex with Children: AyatollahRuhollah Khomeini, The Supreme Leader of Iran, the Shia Grand Ayatollah, 1979-89 said in his official statements recorded in The Little Green Book (Tahrir al-Wasilah, fourth edition, Qom, Iran, 1990): » “A man can have sexual pleasure from a child as young as a baby. However, he should not penetrate vaginally, but sodomising the child is acceptable. If a man does penetrate and damage the child then, he should be responsible for her subsistence all her life. This girl will not count as one of his four permanent wives and the man will not be eligible to marry the girl’s sister… It is better for a girl to marry at such a time when she would begin menstruation at her husband’s house, rather than her father’s home. Any father marrying his daughter so young will have a permanent place in heaven.”

The Quran has been altered. The Quran has been changed. There are multiple ways of demonstrating this, even through using primary Islamic religious texts: (1) Firstly it is important to remember that the Quran was never actually written down into any single book during Muhammad's life. It was always recited. (2) Even during the period before it was written down, there is some evidence that the Quran was changed by Muhammad himself. According to Ibn Ishaq, the earliest source on the life of Muhammad, there was an additional verse in Surah an-Najm that Muhammad later removed, saying that Satan had tricked him into believing it was from God. The verse is commonly referred to as verse 20.5, because it was supposed to fit between 20 and 21. It is also knowns as the "Satanic Verse" The verse went like this: 19: Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-‘Uzzá 20: and Manāt, the third, the other? 20.5: These are the exalted gharāniq, whose intercession is hoped for. Later Islamic scholars came to deny that this ever happened. But it seems to me that the reasoning behind denying the veracity of this event has nothing to do with scholarly skepticism and everything to do with the dangers of the theological repercussions of accepting the veracity of this. After all, if Satan had tricked Muhammad into believing that this verse was from God, then how can we be certain that all the other verses of the Quran are from God and not from Satan? Also the idea that Muhammad could be tricked by Satan, even for a short time, flies in the face of the notion that Muhammad is the perfect man. From a non-religious perspective, the acceptance of the three traditional Pagan Goddesses into Islam makes sense when Muhammad was weak and needed reconciliation with the Pagans, and the removal of this verse later when he was stronger and no longer needed their support makes a lot of sense, for that reason I do not doubt the veracity of the event so much. Of course when you bring this up in a discussion, it is likely to cause anger and outrage among some Muslims, who will often deny that this event occurred, and will even assert that Ibn Ishaq was a liar or something along those lines. This is often one of the major problems of trying to debate with some Muslims over the veracity of the Quran. Many will assert that the Quran has never been altered, and when proof from the earliest Islamic sources themselves is shown that plainly states that Muhammad himself altered parts of the Quran, those Muslims will often become outraged and refuse to discuss any further. (3) There are some Hadiths that claim that portions of the Quran are lost because the only written parts of it were eaten by a sheep or a goat (depending on translation): Quote Reported ‘Aisha (RA): ‘the verse of stoning and of suckling an adult ten times was revealed, and they were (written) on a paper and kept under my pillow. When the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) expired and we were occupied by his death, a goat entered and ate away the paper.’ (Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith 1944) (Hasan) (4) There is a whole doctrine of Naskh, or "abrogation" in Islam. This is the notion that many verses in the Quran are lost and many others have been abrogated by later verses and should no longer be considered. According to Burton in the Encyclopaedia of Islam and the book "Islamic Theories of Abrogation", 564 verses were alleged to have been expunged from the mushaf (Quran), or 1/11th of its total content. (5) According to the traditional Islamic narrative, the Quran was standardized into a single, authorative text for the first time by Caliph Uthman about 30 years after Muhammad died. The way this was done was that Uthman collected all manuscripts of the Quran that had been written down by various people across the Empire, he then selected the "authentic" ones and burned all variant readings. Here is the Hadith in Bukhari that describes this: Quote Bukhari: vol. 6, hadith 510, pp. 478-479; book 61 Narrated Anas bin Malik: Hudhaifa bin Al-Yaman came to Uthman at the time when the people of Sham and the people of Iraq were Waging war to conquer Arminya and Adharbijan. Hudhaifa was afraid of their (the people of Sham and Iraq) differences in the recitation of the Qur'an, so he said to 'Uthman, "O chief of the Believers! Save this nation before they differ about the Book (Quran) as Jews and the Christians did before." So 'Uthman sent a message to Hafsa saying, "Send us the manuscripts of the Qur'an so that we may compile the Qur'anic materials in perfect copies and return the manuscripts to you." Hafsa sent it to 'Uthman. 'Uthman then ordered Zaid bin Thabit, 'Abdullah bin AzZubair, Said bin Al-As and 'AbdurRahman bin Harith bin Hisham to rewrite the manuscripts in perfect copies. 'Uthman said to the three Quraishi men, "In case you disagree with Zaid bin Thabit on any point in the Qur'an, then write it in the dialect of Quraish, the Qur'an was revealed in their tongue." They did so, and when they had written many copies, 'Uthman returned the original manuscripts to Hafsa. 'Uthman sent to every Muslim province one copy of what they had copied, and ordered that all the other Qur'anic materials, whether written in fragmentary manuscripts or whole copies, be burnt. Said bin Thabit added, "A Verse from Surat Ahzab was missed by me when we copied the Qur'an and I used to hear Allah's Apostle reciting it. So we searched for it and found it with Khuzaima bin Thabit Al-Ansari. (That Verse was): 'Among the Believers are men who have been true in their covenant with Allah.' The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, 'It was sent down like that.' Then he said to me, 'Recite' and I recited the sura, and he said, 'It was sent down like that. This Qur'an was sent down in seven (different) ways, so recite from it whatever is easy for you .' "

I very much appreciate your response but to me the argument that what 'true' Muslims believe doesn't work because one 'true' Muslim will totally disagree with another 'true' Muslim. So there is no such thing as a 'true' Muslim. You are right in saying that many different sects will make a claim to being the true Muslims whilst rejecting the others. However we have all been given our own faculties by God and the ability to judge the good or bad of something. As required by Islam, this Caliphate has no political aspirations, rather we believe in the separation of religion and state (i.e. a secular government). Other Muslim sects, such as the Sunnis and Shias, are not united under a single leader. Rather they are led by a multitude of clerics of various systems and hierarchies, disorganised, with chaotically different messages and many a time politically involved. This is an ideal breeding ground for violence, as violence in the name of religion can be used by the clerics to control the masses into doing things that allow the clerics to gain political power, influence and money. The fact that the majority of Muslims belonging to these sects remain peaceful, is rather remarkable and a testament to the clear and beautiful teachings of the Holy Qur'an. The fact that not a single terrorist/extremist has ever been an Ahmadi Muslim, provides support to our claim to be the true Muslims, and also points to the fact that strong Muslim leadership helps prevent such corruption in religion. I must emphasize that we seek unity with other Muslims, people of faith and no faith on the common grounds of peace, and on the basis of our motto "Love for All, Hatred for None". We also do not claim to have a dominion over heaven and hell, the judge of other Muslims and people of other faiths is God alone, and He will decide on the truth, sincerity and righteousness of an individual. Like you, I also intensely dislike any suggestion that any ethnic or religious group, including the Jewish people, should be murdered because of their ethnicity or religion. You and the Jewish community will always find a friend and protector amongst our Muslim community. This is a requirement of the Holy Qur'an and the example of our ultimate role model, the Holy Prophet Muhammad(sa)...our words are not empty. On a side note, we do run countless physical and virtual campaigns against extremism, condemn every terror attack, and are very active on social media around the world. Yet we get very little media coverage, with some exceptions such as the recent tour of Canada by our Caliph. A little earlier this year 30,000 Muslims in the UK from our community marched against ISIS. You likely did not hear about this, much like how mainstream media won't pick up stories on the services we provide to our communities, and the millions of dollars raised for charities. If a single one of us did something wrong, there is a good chance it would receive global coverage without any effort on our behalf. Muslims and Jews share many things in common with each other, particularly a deep love for Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) and worship of the God of Abraham. We should be natural allies for peace in an increasingly immoral and corrupt world. Peace.

Hi Sheeraz! if only more dialogue in within all communities could take place to bring about understanding. Certainly many people are being indoctrinated into violent Muslim sects and effectively killing many innocent ppl. However, US foreign policy has contributed to the vacuum and rising sympathy for Al Qaeda from many vulnerable Muslims, an Al Qaeda of whom The CIA created for the agenda's and benefit. If only greater dialogue could begin in NZ regardless if different peoples, faiths and groups agree to disagree in the end.

Britain has set up around 58 Sharia courts of law for Muslims but should not this be adopted in New Zealand and perhaps make this the mainstream law for all Kiwi's as it could actually improve society as the main religion in schools and across Kiwi culture? Just saying that 's all.
