You had a fried corn tamale at the last place. It's usually dry so it goes well mixed with a side of Salvadoran cream or refried beans. The other dumpling looking things are called pasteles de carne which are similar to what other countries in latam call empanadas. Other than that, you can always ask for curtido and salsa when ordering pupusas if they don't give them to you. 20:33 Or sometimes its a self serve thing so lookout for the containers. Also, the small pupuserias are mostly the cheaper on the go spots you pass by on your way to work. There are more upscale restaurants in which pupusas can cost you up to $1.25. Before you leave, you have to try the "loca." Or the "crazy pupusa." Go hungry and bring a couple of buddies bc they're as big as a pizza pie, it has all traditional and special ingredients.

Next time you are in El Salvador you HAVE TO GO to Olocuilta to try the original Rice Pupusas. Also go to "Planes de Renderos" which is in the moutains of San Salvador and definately go to Antiguo Cuscatlan . You will have the triveca of Pupusas standards. The best of the best. Blessings

In your last meal you had a fried corn tamale which is usually eaten with Salvadoran sour cream. Pastelitos are the ones made with ground beef. Nuegado is the small round one which is made out of Yuca root and is served with a sweet syrup.

There are so many different typical foods in El Salvador. You had there some pastelitos, you also had corn tamales (although you were missing the sour cream with them) Still need to try yuca frita con pepesca
