Fallout 4 tops the list of Deserted Island games, primarily because of the settlement system. It’s limited only by your imagination. It’s also the only game I own that can be modded on PS5, so I can either tweak it to my liking or overhaul it into something incredibly different. Also, the settlement size is based on frame rate and crashes, not an inherent mechanic per se. You’ll find out you can’t go crazy once you start dropping frames just while you walk.

I just started a new save but on my old save I did too. I put down concrete foundations over an existing lot in sanctuary to make it look more legit in dimensions. Then I built a prewar style yellow house with a stocked kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, living room, and upstairs man cave/workshop. Then I added all the details to each. Plunger, soap on the sink, and hairbrush+toothbrush in the bathroom. The kitchen got dishes in the sink, a linen closet that also had cleaning supplies, food on the shelves, a jukebox, etc. Musta placed at least a hundred items individually all over. Even put an armor display mannequin in the kitchen with a prewar dress and wig to make myself a little wifey 😂. Really is as deep as you want it to be. I love armoring up my people and giving them good guns and assigning their jobs. Can't wait to get the perk to connect settlements to make each more focused on its individual task. Farming, trading hub, factory work, etc. Would be cool if the base game actually let you restore locations over time with enough materials as I don't like using mods to do it besides the allowed creation club ones.

My last playthrough I mostly focused on Vault 88 (strongly recommend running that if you like settlement building. You unlock a lot of useful stuff, especially cheap nuclear reactors with tons of power, as long as you have high Science, and the vault itself is a big resource of nuclear material). Vault Tec housing is useful in that the material itself is conductive with power (there is a piece of equipment to make use of it), so you can more neatly get power to objects inside. Additionally, the experiments (at least if you go for the more benign ones) are beneficial for settlements too, and give your settlers something to actually do. Settlements can be a bit of a convenient source of cash early on too, since you can set up water sources (I prefer the industrial water purifier, which requires 1 science), and your settlers will place purified water into your workshop inventory. Doesn't take long (just a couple in-game days I think, to refresh), and purified water is a convenient saleable resource. The aforementioned Vault 88 has a massive water pump facility that will give you far more water than you need once you wire it up and power it, but it necessitates fighting a Mirelurk Queen which might be too challenging if you struggled at all to even get in the vault in the first place, just FYI.

@@narivassandbox It's the Vault-Tec Workshop DLC, just FYI. It'd be included in the GOTY edition, naturally. If you play it, I personally recommend (unless you are playing either a jerk character or a goodie two-shoes type) performing the experiments in that DLC so they're mostly positive for the settlers. What I personally did was focus on avoiding the detrimental stuff, but if the notes indicate no particular adverse effects, it's fine to do. For example, with the drinking station, I use the mild hallucinogenic instead of the caffeine option (which is the 'nicest' option), and customer profiling for the slots (adds some happiness plus some income, but if you really want the extra happiness the most generous option doesn't actually cost you money). I think that's the best balance of beneficial with no detriment. Going wholly negative or positive can cause problems relating to the Barstow and one of the residents (neither are strictly necessary to keep, mind you. So do what you want, it's just a heads up). Oh, and final hint. Don't connect the prototype bike up to any valuable power source for the quest involving it. Just use a 3 point generator or something.

I get really addicted to weapon modifications when I start a new save. I'm constantly watching for weapons I already have but with new attachments I can take and use on my current ones. Took me a long time to even think of it because I was always thinking I was screwed until I got the perks to make them. Now it's possible to get some guns to basically max attachments relatively early without those perks. I spend 20 minutes at a time going through looted guns and stripping them down to mix and match pieces before selling the base weapons after.
@3dartstudio007Ай бұрын
Cool video, you don't have to scrap weapons to increase build size. Just toss a hand full of guns down, and hit "store" selection. Then go take them back out and do it over and over as much as you like. Build on!

Beware building without limits. There's a point when your system can no longer handle the load and you'll get caught in a crash loop. The limits are there for good reason, but they were much more conservative with it than they needed to be. Also, Sanctuary, Red Rocket, and Abernathy Farm are often referred to as the Triangle of Death. They are too close to each other and if you build them all up, you risk killing your save file.

I wouldn't consider the rebuilt Sanctuary to be "too clean", it's natural for a human to fix the walls and clean up the place they're planning to live. I'd actually consider the vanilla settlements to be not clean _enough_ for my liking; no matter how long people have lived there, settlements are usually wallowing in squalor and filth. Piles of debris and filth everywhere with seemingly no attempt to clean up. Even Abernathy Farm, which has had 3 generations of a family living there, still looks like its been abandoned for years and was only settled recently.

That's a fair point!

I don't normally replay games that I've already completed, and I've long since had every achievement for this game on Steam. But, I decided to replay it because I love the feel of the Power Armor and all the crappy makeshift guns. I spent the past two days installing mods, trying to get my ideal experience. I'm going for a harder, more resource-scarce world, Survival Mode with fast-travel to owned settlements only, and of course a bunch of bug fixes and optimizations. I finally got the game to where I was ready to play it, started a new save... then my computer died. Won't even boot. Now I'm waiting for parts, and I have to rebuild my PC and reinstall all those mods again, on top of reinstalling my OS and all my programs. FML. Why does everything have to be so difficult? I just wanna play some Fallout.

@@narivassandbox Thank you for the support. Thanks to the last day of my Amazon Prime free trial and some very selective purchases based on shipping times, I'm already up and running again, with a new PC for this modern age. On the topic of Settlements, when I played Survival, I wanted to be able to fast-travel between settlements based on my Supply Lines, and Journey seems to be the mod for that. Another mod, Settlement Progression, seems to rebalance what you can build based on your learned Perks (like Science, Blacksmith, etc.). Me personally, I'm looking for more gameplay difficulty and immersion. For this kind of Minecrafty freeform building though, there's an insane amount of mods out there, including plenty that allow scrapping and building of just about everything in the default game.
@BillyBumbler-19Ай бұрын
To each their own i guess. I think the concept of settlement building is interesting for maybe 15 minutes and then i'm over it. I've never done a settlement builder playthrough ever in all of my hours in the FO4 universe. I always travel solo, have never used a companion, and always attempt to carry the least amount of gear as possible. A nomadic existence exploring every nook and cranny of the FO4 world. Playthroughs are always modded survival runs - with most mods being QOL mods, and mods to make the game harder. I'm the polar opposite of a hoarder... in this FO4 universe and in our own.
