I hearken back to the first episode. Wesley falls into a stream on the holodeck. Later, he exits, and the holodeck water should have disappeared instantly as he exited, leaving him in rumpled, but dry clothes. Instead, he drips all over the deck and squishes away.

@@amipadme3985, yep, the 1988 Writers Strike pushed delayed the entire 1988-‘89 season, for not just this show but tons of others. Every other season of TNG began running in September, but S2 began in November, about two months late. It also had only 22 episodes, when every other season had 26 (or 25, but with one being double-length). And the season premiere, “The Child”, was an unused script that had been written for Star Trek Phase II way back in the ‘70s (a revival with most of the TOS crew that had been planned, and then dropped when Paramount ultimately decided to do Star Trek - The Motion Picture instead). To get production back underway on TNG as quickly as possible, they brought “The Child” out of the archives and dusted it off and rewrote it to reassign the story to the new characters. Even with all that, they still resorted to a clip show for the end of the season. It saved money, but I think the important thing is that it saved time; I think even by the end of the season, they were still playing “catch-up” because of the late start.

Theres one thing that has carried through every iteration of star trek that grinds my gears; the writers use the phrase "I tend to agree" incorrectly all the time. When put it in, it's not the proper context, the character should be saying "I'm inclined to agree." Saying you tend to agree means only that you have a pattern of agreeing or have reason to regularly agree with an individual or a certain concept. When a person makes a point and you feel it's reasonable and logical, you say you're inclined to agree, because you're addressing that particular situation. You only use I tend to agree in the context of adding veracity to a person's claims, as a means to bolster their point in the eyes of another. Yes some people dont see a point in the distinction but it genuinely matters, and it makes otherwise really intelligent characters sound like they failed english class.

It's weird how there aren't security cameras in Star Trek, my theory is that the Federation made them illegal for privacy sake. I was thinking of the episode skeetsmcgrew3282 mentioned, however every time they open a channel and use video to speak to someone that's what we'd consider a remote video feed. And I've thought it's odd that Deanna would be able to sense what someone's feeling (well, sometimes) through a screen.

It's called "Shades Of Grey", the last episode of Season 2 and also the last episode to feature Dr. Pulaski. A lot of the episode makes use of flashbacks, purportedly due to budgetary constraints at the end of the season. It's generally considered one of the worst episodes of the show, though this particular scene was a bright spot.

@@CaptPanOfSteel It was a failed attempt at trying to pay homage to the "City On The Edge Of Forever" episode from the original series on a shoe-string budget. I'm generally not a big fan of the 2nd season of the show primarily due to Dr. Pulaski not being a really likeable character, especially when compared to Dr. Crusher. In my opinion, the best thing to come out of episode 2 was the introduction of Whoopi Goldberg's Guinan character, and the best episodes from the series being the ones that gave her the most air time and the least amount to Pulaski (i.e. "The Measure Of A Man" and "Q Who").

@@hellsunicorn, I’m not sure how this episode is paying homage to “The City on the Edge of Forever”; do the stories have anything to do with each other? This episode was indeed made to save money, though (unlike “The City on the Edge of Forever”, which was the most expensive regular episode of the original series), but I think even more importantly, it saved time. Having a “clip show” episode, where so much of the episode was just recycled footage from throughout the series up to this point, meant they needed only three days of shooting for this one. The second season, like so much other TV from the ‘88-‘89 season, had gotten off to a late start because of the 1988 Writers Strike, and I’m thinking they were sort of playing “catch up” throughout the whole season. The strike affected Season 2 in numerous ways - it started about two months late (every other season of ST:TNG began in September, but S2 began in November); it had fewer episodes (22, when every other season had 26, or the equivalent of 26, i.e., having 25 but one of them being feature-length); it began with a recycled story (the season premiere “The Child” was originally written for the never-produced Star Trek Phase II project in the 1970s, before Paramount decided to bring back the TOS crew on the big screen instead, and the makers of TNG brought “The Child” out of the archives and rewrote it just enough to reassign the story roles from the TOS characters to the TNG ones, letting them start production more quickly); and so on. This clip show episode, “Shades of Gray”, was the last episode of the season, but I think the delayed start meant the whole season was just sort of pushed back and the initial delay sort of had a ripple effect throughout the season, and I’m guessing the production staff at the time appreciated the time savings the episode represented (though I think they wound up regretting the end result). Granted, I didn’t work on the show, but that’s my guess / understanding (i.e., that we got an episode like this because of the delay caused by the Writers Strike).

Walking in alien water up to their knees without a protective suit. Why is La Forge even there at all? He's the chief engineer. Do they not have botanical specialist for this work. Why are they not wearing a body or head cam uplink? The Enterprise is supposed to have a crew of over 1,000 yet all the work is done by the 6 most important people on the ship. Picard, Ryker, Data, Crusher (and from time to time her insufferable son Wesley), Worf, and Troi.
