21:00 bit of a tip. When you have multiple bus lines sharing the same road like that, put the stops of each line next to the other. This way the buses from different lines will all stop at different spots and it speeds things up a bit. This works especially well when you have dedicate bus lanes like we see here cause all the buses that don't use a particular stop can just pass by.

The most common mistake is that people would just build a town beside the highway and connect with the opposite town then the highway. That would cause a lot of industrial-commercial crossover and lead to heavy traffic. You said it's better to have everything in one small town instead of the entire town full of one industries or just residences and commercial area. That's so true. It isolates the traffic and prevent them from sending stuff across two towns and stress the connecting roads...

That junction near the end (25:20) could be fixed by separating the tram from the road near the top left and then connecting the tram to the 3 way junction near the bottom right.... Then having the tram stop on the 'tram only road' before entering the intersection will help with buildup on one side, and then on the other side where the trams would be entering from the bottom right, placing the stop a little further back for queuing

This was a fun watch, My only issue with traffic manager in that style is how It turn cars into mini-railed trains, or as if every car in the city is a self driving AI that know exactly what they are doing with out screwing up the lanes. in the plus side, this make me looking forward for the day where all/most cars turn into an AI driving car with infrastructures that direct cars in a way similar to what traffic manager is doing.
@russelljacob79555 жыл бұрын
There was one important part to this episode at end to watch for that caused problems but not addressed. The bit with the trams. That spot had a big mistake by having the trams turn right off the four lane boulevard tram. Never do that. Those trams were forced to make a right turn in front of left turning traffic. Then they had to from the right lane make a left turn across main line traffic. Very important with trams to minimize their crossing of lanes, especially traffic flowing same direction else they cause more traffic than they solve. Only use the four lane boulevard tram when next turn will be left. Use two lane or a six lane with tram if next turn is a right to keep them out of traffic. This also means that tram can only run one way unless taking advantage of more advanced layouts to minimize interference. (ensuring traffic is turning same way as trams ) Best usage of trams is to use tram only routes with no roads in busy areas. You can put stops on them. Only use the combined for lower traffic areas.

@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines I have some other ideas as well.... Such as, finding a city that is all islands and doing a re-jig of all transport. ( includes taking out any and all existing transport network) Working your way from ferries, to metro or train to monorail and bus. Culminating in one island that has a central hub for all of the forms used, all of which can be easily used by the busses and as well as all the people. Allowing for all people to get from and to anywhere in the city after just 1 change.... This would probably suit a city of maybe 80k or so. Well that's two ideas. The second I tried and failed but maybe you, my Skyline Guru can show me the way.

This was an interesting look into some of the traffic management options available in Cities: Skylines. As my cities grow, that's one of the areas I struggle a bit with. One thing I'm absolutely not in the habit of using are the roundabouts, which I just don't see in use where I live in Canada. I am finding that limiting intersections on my main roads does help a ton in keeping traffic moving, as well as dispersing the traffic flow as much as possible by giving alternate routes, or having residential areas surrounding a commercial area, so the traffic is flowing in from several different directions, using multiple streets, as opposed to all getting funneled onto a single street that gets gridlocked. Or having a residential area with work zones in opposite directions so the residents will flow in 2 or more different directions to get to work, instead of all going the same way, on the same streets. It was amazing to see how much traffic flow can be improved though, just by changing lane management, especially at intersections.

I once had terrible traffic along a main bridge from one island to the other. Turns out that the entire bridge was flooded and all the cars were being swept away by the sea.

Hey biffa, i am watching your videos for some time now and i see you're doing almost everything perfectly in your city fix, there is one thing, a tiny little thing, that could make 5% traffic flow difference. This is the thing: I see you're sometimes making an exit/entrance of a roundabout or highway very sharp. This causes the drivers to slow down, and go slowly through the exit/entrance. If you make this more smooth, you'll have a smoother traffic flow. If you don't know what i mean, look at 11.02 for example, it's almost 90°

Random youtube recommendation, but pays off well. Great job on fixing that rat's nest of a traffic problem, I can never get people interested in taking my metro trains around town. I haven't played this game in years, but it was a fun game to get into.

Gamer's are a weird bunch. I just spent 26 minutes watching a guy fix the horribly congested traffic of a virtual city in a game I do not play. I essentially watched city planning in action. Kudos on the work, it was engaging, your commentary drew me in and all of a sudden 24 min had passed.

The way I get to enjoy Cities Skylines now, after an update ate mods and my save, I haven't been able to find a quick fix to get my city back :( I really wish Biffa had saving cities from the game itself, as it currently stands I cannot get the motivation to resume work on it, but if I can't make it load, there isn't much to save I guess? Oh well, keep it up Biffa, it is relaxing to watch!

I don't recall where, but I remember hearing someplace that traffic flow, both with cars and foot pedestrians, can be simulated and calculated using models and functions based on fluid dynamics. All this just hammers home just how accurate that is. Individual people may act of their own free will, but scale up and broaden your scope enough, and as a whole, large populations move and behave shockingly similarly to fluids in closed environments, and it fascinates me.

What I have noticed is there are 10 million eyes watching for any mistakes that are made, instead of thinking man this cat (Biffa) knows his stuff, everyone wants to cut, but no one wants to sew... personally I love the humor, the axioms and the accent, but I love the knowledge you bring and the content. Thanks Biffa! Remember if you pooped gold nuggets, someone would complain that they smelled bad....just be you and all is well.....

I notice when I had traffic jams,it was attributed to having on/off ramps ran to roundabouts and roads off the highway having to turn onto those roads. When I ran the on/off ramps straight into the roads off the highways it was not jammed. Also I only have a few roads that allow traffic coming off of the highways to the city. I have a ramp that comes off the highway that runs straight for a a block or so before it hits a roundabout or road. This way traffic doesn't get backed up,causing the highway to back up. Make sure you allow traffic getting off of highway to be able to get back on highway going the opposite direction. I have a city with 95,000 people and traffic is 85%

I bet the people in Bergen Norway would have loved to see you fix their incredible real world traffic jams that looks exactly like the traffic did in the beginning here. They probably have one of the most fragile road systems in the world. Every time theres a small hickup, a lane closure or something like that somewhere, all the freeways going through the city and the surrounding areas will come to a complete stand still. Im talking traffic in all directions stopped, 10 miles.
