Dear friends, I do not use live trees to build my huts! Only dry and fallen ones. To prevent premature destruction of the building, I use cellophane to protect the tree from rotting underground. If you know how to protect a tree from destruction in the ground, without using cellophane, let me know.

I burn or char the exterior of my logs that go in the ground. . . a charcoal layer of 1/2 inch or 12.7 mm for wet areas. This method has been used by the Japanese for centuries. "Shou Sugi Ban" I then brush the ground contact areas with used motor oil before contact. . its a very effective rot preventative and bugs and mildew are conquered. Whether this would work in your environment, I am not sure. I use a heavy tough piece of plastic called a "slip sheet" that is used and discarded by trucking companies to put my logs on before tying and dragging, reducing the effort to drag them and increasing the number i can transport at one time. . .its a back and energy saver. Tyvek style house wrap works for this too! Using plastic as you do seems really smart me to me! GREAT BUILD!
