I think the fact that Patrick Bateman doesn't learn anything and that there is essentially no motive to his killings is the point. A true psychopath would not really be capable of developing a moral conscience. They kill because they feel compelled to make other people suffer. I think most of us simply cannot comprehend this. The bizarre and confusing elements of the film contribute to the overall sense of unease, incomprehension, and absurdity.

"But even after admitting this, there is no catharsis; my punishment continues to elude me, and I gain no deeper knowledge of myself. No new knowledge can be extracted from my telling. This confession has meant nothing." Christian Bale is a national treasure. After this movie, he became a leading man. Fun Fact: In 2013, Funny Or Die recreated the "Hip To Be Square" scene with Huey Lewis and 'Weird Al' Yankovic. Huey Lewis himself played the Patrick Bateman role and 'Weird Al' Yankovic was the Paul Allen role. In the scene, Lewis discusses the film, its controversial reception, Christian Bale's acting, and its effect on Bale's performance as Batman. Rather than listening to a song, Lewis pops in the American Psycho (2000) DVD, and at one point he points to the television while discussing Bale as Bale is shown pointing at the stereo discussing Lewis. It ends with Lewis killing Yankovic while the song "I Want A New Duck" (a parody of the Huey Lewis And The News song "I Want A New Drug") plays. Location Location Fact: The scene in which Patrick Bateman yells at the Asian woman at the laundromat was filmed at a small cleaners on Jarvis street in Toronto, Ontario. Much of the building scenes (his escape near the finale for example) were filmed in the financial district downtown. Distinguish Competition Fact: This film stars both Christian Bale and Jared Leto who each end up portraying DC characters. Bale would later go on to star as Bruce Wayne/Batman in The Dark Knight Trilogy and Leto would later appear as The Joker in Suicide Squad (2016). Interestingly, Batman has a no killing policy while the Joker kills with no remorse, yet fans humorously point out how in this film, Batman kills the Joker.

I love that that he says the name of his building before he says his name.

'' _the first time i watch this movie i feel the same feeling_ '' This movie has many details, you should watch it again without worrying about reacting, watch it focused on the details and you will discover more things. If you see the movie again it will answer many questions but it will also generate new questions. I need to watch the movie more than 3 times to discover the hidden message. You have to consider that just like in the Joker movie, our protagonist is the only narrator. the protagonist has social and mental problems, both consume medicine during the movie. (In the end we are not sure of what is real because the story is told by someone with serious mental problems) it is a criticism of society and its way of dealing with people like Patric & Arthur. They both ask for help and confess but are never treated properly. Both are very complex characters because they are not just assassins. Why doesn't Patrick kill Louis or Jean the secretary? and Why doesn't Arthur kill Gary the dwarf? I like movies that force me to work my brain to understand them, I respect and value that very much.

the entirety of American Psycho is an exaggeration to say that those in a position of power can get away with practically anything, simply because everyone in their circle, purposefully, accidentally, or unknowingly protects that position of power by looking away no one comes out to help a screaming woman, the terror in paul allen's apartment is swept under the rug by realtors, the detective is never seen again, and bateman's lawyer (along with everyone else in the film as well) is too aloof to put the right names to the right faces

Its not about power at all lol the movie criticizes the yuppie culture of the 80's. A materialistic society, thats why people are getting mistaken so often in the movie. The lawyer also mistook some other guy for Paul Allen. None of it is a fantasy, all murders took place.

Tom Cruise movies .... Interview with the Vampire or A Few Good Men. (Didn't you react to Collateral? I could swear.) Great job on the reaction. The story has no conclusion because it is a satire on American consumerism and corporate greed of which there is No End in Sight.

Real talk the biggest surprise of this movie..... Was that there was ONLY 1 psycho among all the top ranking business men lol. Plot Twist: They're all psychos and just hiding it from each other lol, actually wouldn't even be that big of a twist.

Oh, one last thing. I wish I could have included more of this movie, but I swear half the movie people are nude, getting brutally (non-KZbin friendly) murdered, or they are nude while being murdered.

Brooooo please tell me!! What happened to your older content? The formatting and editing were great. I always used it as reference because it was the source that personally helped me best. Do you have them private or unlisted? Any chance I can get a link to a Playlist or something?
@JakeLovesStories2 жыл бұрын
Sorry, a lot of them started getting copyrighted cause I didn't understand how long of clips I could use, so I had to get rid of most of them to prevent AMC from getting my channel terminated. But don't worry when I have the time, I will be making the same style videos with info using movies. I'm working on an American Psycho one right now.

@@JakeLovesStories Yeah!! I gotcha, no worries. I enjoy some of your reactions, but of course those are part Analysis and part reaction instead of just all analysis :P If I can suggest some of the content I would like remade, I would start with your deep dive into Theme, as well as the 5 step finale. All the info is online of course, but only in text form. I really enjoyed the visuals you had for the 5 step finale and many other concepts!!
