I've lived in basement flats with window wells - we had large sliding patio door-type windows to the little space outdoors, painted the brick well walls white and added plants in tubs for something to look at, and having the sliding windows meant you could easily water them. Hope this helps you decide what to do with yours, really enjoyed the episode as always!

If you want it to be realistic/accurate - For the window wells, raise the floors in the wells using platforms, then use the very narrow short windows at the top of the wall )similar to the ones use in the bathroom) - most basement windows are not full height windows, they are typically short wide windows. For the style and age of the home, you would want to use cobblestone walls.
@HiyruuAzuretiem

was coming to post the same thing. Though some places require windows that people can be pulled out of in case of fire if you want to use it as a sleeping space.

Two suggestions: I think you should go for more modern windows. If we imagine that there was an unfinished basement on the house, I think Hazel would probably want to turn it into a modern extension. As for a whole bedroom in the basement, maybe do a Murphy bed somewhere? That way it's not like it's a whole bedroom in the basement, but guests still have a place to sleep.

Perfect timing, I was just looking for something to watch! Edit: Giant windows in the window wells to the basement makes good sense - my parents added to the basement in my childhood home, and put in large windows to the basement bedrooms that can slide open so that they could double as a fire escape and bring more light/ fresh air inside. We just put some ferns in the window wells so they'd look nicer from the inside.

Suggestion: In the window wells the walls that are against land and not the house should maybe have a dirt texture or concrete rather than the blue slating. Also u could put dirt floors and lots of succulents/other plant on the ground; the way stuff would just naturally start to grow down there. Loving all the content lately btw! *also love that shelf*

Re: the basement windows - I know a lot of CPTED/crime prevention through environmental design on this so I gotta nerd out for a second, sorry lol So, where I live, if you have a bedroom you HAVE to have windows which can open in case of a fire and a human can fit through, and you therefore need also a window well to get out. But because burglars can also get into the window well and get into the home by breaking through the window, one safety recommendation is to plant hostile plants in the window well (hostile vegetation = plants that have thorns, are prickly, etc, but still can look pretty if you want. Think like rose bushes or raspberry bushes, but could also be cacti or honestly whatever you want) You'd obviously have to choose something that fit in your area, that wouldn't take up all the space and make it impossible to get out, and that would actually grow in your environment and setup. But, if you do something like that, residents can still open the window and crawl out in case of fire or disaster, and they aren't going to mind getting some scratches along the way. But for someone breaking in, they're less likely to want to deal with the potential injuries, it takes up more space for them in the well so it's less hospitable to them sitting there taking their time breaking in, and if they DO still decide to go for it they're more likely to leave blood or DNA evidence behind that could track them down. I always felt like that area of Del Sol Valley is a decent enough neighborhood but not spectacular, so I think if you wanted to be really IRL about it all, you could choose if you wanted to put some thorny or prickly vegetation in the window wells that would look pretty as well and give a good vibe. Or put grates over the top of the window well (like making a pergola) - but only if you don't do a bedroom down there. In basements with no bedrooms, where I live you can do whatever windows you want. A lot of people do ones that can't open and are smaller and higher on the wall, or open only a small amount. But either way, would be smaller typically. But in bedroom areas, they would usually have a larger window like double hung, sliding, MAYBE casement (with the crank) if you had a version that let you easily pop it all the way open in an emergency. Oh also, the window that opens only has to be in the bedroom area. So let's say you had it all open floor plan with a bed down there - the only window that needs to open is by the bed, the rest can be small. Or if you have one room that's a bedroom walled off and the rest is whatever else, including even a living room or office, they can be small windows. It's better to have openable windows a human can fit through if possible anywhere that people may be staying extended periods of time, but from what I recall, it's only REQUIRED by fire code in the bedroom itself because I guess they assume if you're not living/sleeping down there you'd be able to get out upstairs in a fire? idk. Obviously, since it's Sims 4 and they don't have burglars/thieves, you wouldn't HAVE to do the safety recommendations. But since this is a topic I happen to know a fair bit about I got all nerdy excited and had to go CPTED on you lol I think the reno looks great! That shelf unit looks fantastic and I hope you don't remove it. I'm so excited about this house - and the LP in general. I haven't bought it yet but I'm pretty sure this is going to be one of my favorite packs. I mostly do build/renos in Sims.

the whole time that you were doing the upstairs and trying to fit all the living space with the bedroom i was wishing that you had just knocked down all the walls and moved her bedroom and walk in closet to the basement with an en suite bathroom. it really doesnt make sense for her bedroom to be on the same floor as the kitchen and living room when you have so much space in the basement, for both a workshop and her whole bedroom space. i get it might be annoying for gameplay but it would giving you a ton of more living space and maybe even have a small work area upstairs with a desk, the computer, etc. also absolutely sell the $10k computer!!

I realize, when you put an open shower in every your decorator gig or your house, maybe you can change the tile under the shower, so it can look like different level. I think you should add platforms in the window wells to make them not as deep and put thin windows high up! (Also siding doesn’t make sense in the window wells because its below the foundation)

I’m rewatching the first rags to riches with Lady Bigwallet and I think it would be fitting for Hazel to buy and renovate the original big wallet emporium. Back then there wasn’t as much content. You could really turn it into a really awesome renovated factory. Like apartments, or an art gallery again, or a club like it was at one point.

Okay, window wells: they are often shallow and double as a fire escape (at least in Canada) so I would use the platform tool to raise the floors in the wells ( also less death trappy that way) and use a short but long window. Preferably a sliding window if you want the realism of a fire escape, but it's the Sims so also whatever with realism.

I like the window wells! I think it would be realistic that they’re brick or concrete and the wall against the house could match the foundation. Maybe fill them up halfway with platforms and just have short windows on the top of the wall? The wells would be less of a falling hazard that way too. I think you should be able to replace and move doors and windows, but maybe limit major exterior changes. And I love the idea of buying all three houses and selling them to the three brothers, but as far as the cost of buying them, maybe you should see what the cost of building all the walls is first because that might be enough. Maybe just subtract $1000 or so for the cost of the land? Also HECK YEAH PRIDE PAINTING (bi/pan Hazel!!!!)

With moveobjects on, if you press F5, objects will move on the quarter tile rather than the half tile. It works really well for things like beds with curtains behind them. Also, I'm pretty sure your vacuum is just broken and it isn't the house's fault. Have her empty it and see if it needs repair.

Some suggestions: - What if you turned the basement into a cozy art studio/office for Hazel (definitely use the new desks from the DHD pack), you'd even have the space to show off her aspiration by having some of her paintings lying around. Maybe have a room in there to store some of the larger items she "borrowed" from her clients? The garage can be used for the smaller objects and you can even add in a woodworking table since Hazel could have developed a liking for handiness activities from upgrading everything in her old home. - If you're still thinking about expanding the lot, how about giving the other two garages a tiny living inspired reno for sims to rent out? She doesn't need to keep the money from it, it's just for her to see the potential of the other houses and start to seriously consider buying them since she's a bit in need of space in her own home.

Hi James! I reckon the Windows wells would work really well if you used platforms to raise the level of them inside? Using like a smaller window like the snowy escape sliding one and then raising the platform level in the well. Then on the outside it won't look like such a massive hazard that sims could theoretically fall into. Idk just suggestion? Loving this series BTW!!

Most basements have the little rectangular windows just to let in a little light, nothing too big, and not usually matching the house windows. I would also use stone or brick for the walls on the exterior basement light wells, since the basement is usually part of the foundation.

the more light you can get in the basement the better, so logically nice and open windows. also i think you should put greenery behind them. also you could put a little spare bedroom with some bunk beds in the basement, or potentially Hagrids stuff down there? also i love the idea of making some studio/ office space down there. the renovation looks so good i love it, but not sure about the little corner with the coffee table, i reckon having the dog bed wasa good idea, loooove the bedroom not too cramped.

On window wells: where I live (pretty close to Canadian border in the US) they are almost 100% of the time covered on the outside with some glass or windows due to heavy snow (I use glass roof pieces in sims to cover them), and the window is a regular two to three foot tall sliding window, which opens onto a little gardening spot. (I was using those plants in wooden crates to imitate the look but now you can do platforms and put plants there.) Regular homes where I live tend to do a guest/kids' living area downstairs with a bedroom and a den, but sometimes it will be a game room or man cave. I have heard of really expensive houses having underground pools, but that's millionaires here. Love watching you realistically reno her home 😊 Makes me want to play that way too.

@@nemi-ru5318 Very True! However, personally I have found the grout between tiles to be difficult to clean, as well as the cheaper sticky-back tiles disintegrate when repeatedly cleaned with degreaser. Having worked in both an industrial kitchen with metal backing and a mobile food truck with a glass backing, the glass was by far the easiest to keep clean for me personally.

@@rockEbobbins Yes, at least in my experience. The only place I’ve seen kitchen sinks without a window above were galley style kitchens on an interior wall (a lot of apartments/high rises). Why are so against fridge next to the oven? There's no problem with ist. Both, my sister and I just bought a new kitchen and both have ovens right next to the fridge. The fridges and ovens are so good isolated, that it doesn't matter. But our fridges are "built in" the counters, as it is normal here in germany.

If you put an oven next to a refrigerator it has to use more power to keep cool when something hot is next to it (idk about the specific insulation with built in stuff) so most people tend to avoid placing them next to eachother

My apartment came with the old fridge directly next to the oven. I bake and cook a lot, the fridge broke in 2 years that I've been here. You could tell when I was baking because it always kicked into overdrive to combat the heat from the stove. It might be possible it was super old and just had its own issues so I was to unlucky one it quit on, but when they got me a new one I made a space between the oven and fridge, just to give it some more room.

You could move all the stolen items 5o the basement and turn the garage into a room to rent! You can also put a rec room, bar, and storage room in the basement. I used to live in a house with a huge basement with all that stuff. The previous owner was an old man and the basement was full on 70s, wood paneling, red carpet, a collection of matchbook behind the bar, everything. It was great
