I'll be honest, I bought into the hype of the ROTB Optimus (SS-102)... I very much regret doing so, not because I hate the figure, but because it really tends to take a few missteps. Weirdly enough the designers at Hasbro can make non-Triggerhappy shoulders, but they just don't on their most anticipated figures, and it really hurts the designs. It has a okay base, but it definitely can stand to get that "third party" design update (No, not that upgrade kit that just gives him borderline ER Prime level Transformations in the legs)

Well BaiWei seems to be doing a version of the mold that has a truck bed transformation similar to that of SS 38’s truck bed. Shoulder articulation will probably be the same, but here’s to hoping the DNA upgrade kit shoulders will be able to work with the BaiWei copy.

people talk about accuracy and I know its ss but they have a budget like the guy who said bb optimus is overrated and he prefers a third party figure where i am in Australia that ss bb optimus would be about 40 bucks it wont be as accurate as you want it because the 40 dollar budget that third party fig is a masterpiece style fig the budget is waaaaayy more so of course it will be more accurate

I actually love the Core Class B movie Shockwave. He was the first Transformers figure I bought in probably close to a decade. I absolutely love him but I'm excited to see if the rumored Voyager B movie Shockwave releases because while Core Shockwave is awesome, images that awesomeness in an accurate size.

I've literally skipped out on most of the SS line but recently got the Decepticon 2007 anniversary set. 100% agree on Blackout. Other than abysmal arm articulation my biggest qualm is he isn't even designed to transform into a helicopter properly. Most of the transformation is smooth and seamless except for the arms which are impossible to tab in and leave an unavoidable gap because the plastic pushes outwards by whatever's behind it. Feels like a transformation era but always present on the reviews I've seen. Also the visible cut away beneath the canopy which literally looks like a section of plastic was snapped away during transformation. Haven't had any success with finding an ROTB Prime but fwiw the first movie Prime is decent and everything about it is infinitely better than any of the earlier Bayverse Prime designs. Only got the ROTF version and other than the dual swords which are great and decent articulation the truck is too small, poorly detailed and looks like a cheaper knockoff. A lot of the Bayverse designs need another go around in my subjective opinion.

All of the voyager-class Studio Series movie 1-3 Optimus Primes are extremely overrated. Extremely inaccurate transformation with the wheels in the wrong places, the way the windshield transforms gives it an ugly 3-segmented look, and the tiny smokestacks are dreadful, not to mention that horrendous black bar in the middle of the chest on the first iteration.

I’d probably say TLK Barricade was pretty good. I also think Nitro Zeus had a pretty good design (though there are some aspects I could do without). While Shockwave definitely had a design that felt a bit more inspired from his more overall well known appearance, he looked far more like a Dark Souls boss with the design choices they used for him.

Yeah, as someone who was finally able to find a Scourge copy (at a GameStop) I definitely kind of more prefer the concept/toy design. Now while I’ll say that the bulkier body for Scourge’s final design looked better than the figure’s skinnier body (mainly with the legs), I do prefer the more prominent look the concept design has. I think the prominent appearance with the bulkier body would make for the perfect appearance for Scourge’s ROTB design.

I quit buying movie toys mid DOTM. I don't think SS was even a thing then. I might have one or two movie figures past that, but I couldn't tell you off the top of my head because when I built shelves for my office, the whole collection didn't make it up from the basement and only 9 of the movie figures made the trip up. The only movie SS I have is 40 Shatter (the car), and it's still in the box. The only reason I bought it was because there was a buy 1 get 1 half off and I have a hard time passing up on a good deal and I've always enjoyed Angela Basset ever since she played Mace in the movie Strange Days, so that was my nod to her. It is upstairs though ;) I grew up in the 80's but I'm not a G1 die hard. I found a Market 6 (Dollar General) Universe (Really Energon) Arcee and picked it up because I had never seen an Arcee figure as I was out of the loop since the G1 Cartoon ended. So I got a $5 Arcee and a couple of weeks later stumbled across Alternators Ravage and Shock Blast on clearance and that pulled me back in. (I really wish I had picked up the Windcharger too, but I just didn't know. I DIDN'T KNOW!! It is sill a gap in my collection.) Cybertron/Galaxy Force was just starting up and I remember it was Thanksgiving night, maybe even past midnight at that point, I went to a local 24 Walmart clone (Meijer for those who live in one of the 5 or 6 states that have them) and I bought Vector Prime and made the decision that I was going to officially start collecting Transformers. I feel lucky to find my first "grail" early as I came across the Hasbro version of MP01 on clearance at a Walmart on clearance, and I had only been collecting for a few months. Maybe 6 tops. It's been a long ride and easily thousands of dollars over the past couple decades. It's been a year or so since I counted, but I was at 450 products at that point and I've been counting some combiners as a single figure just to keep the number down. And I've not stopped adding to the collection. Once Classics came out, (And through to what has evolved into what Legacy is now. CHUG+++?) that became my main focus. Even the Beast Wars inspired one. They are my Beast Wars line. (See below.) Aside from the afore mentioned Cybetron line which I did get a bunch of, I've also picked up most of the US MPs and some reissues. (I never managed to get any of the Datsun bros. I know the put Prowl out in the US, but not sure if they did the streaks.) Most of, if not all of the Walmart reissues, except the Beast Wars ones. I loved the cartoon but didn't collect the toys then and really just don't have room to start another line/subline now. I have 2 Animated toys that hang out in my garage, (The Prime Megs 2 pack) and a lot of Prime figures up until it became Beast Hunters. (Those didn't make it up either but it's like 2 display cases worth. And they will come up before 95% of the rest of my movie figures will.) And my mother's maiden name is .... and my favorite color is .... and I grew up on ...... street. I know, I know. I just typically don't have short or simple thoughts. Sorry. I think the engineering on a lot of the movie figures is amazing, really amazing when the first movie came out. It still seems good but after 16 years, it's not some new giant advancement like it felt back in 2007. But at some point I had to admit to myself, that even though I want to support the franchise, and tried real hard to drink the Kool-Aide, I genuinely hate the design of the movieverse characters. I just really don't like the overly forced alien aesthetic of the robot modes. They are, in a word, gaudy. If the engineering wasn't so incredible, I'd have gotten rid of the ones I have. The movieverse fell victim of what I call "Lookie what I can do" syndrome. Yeah Mike, that's cool, you got Dreamworks to do the CGI, but going full GPU on the cad designs was just unnecessary. Most of them are just too busy. They are collections of angles more than characters with defined and prominent features. They look like someone wanted to stress test their GPUs out with overly complicated models that distract from the characters more than they define them. All that being said, I enjoy videos about the movie toy. And maybe there will be one I want at some point. I just don't see it coming. Thanks for your vids. I'm enjoying them.

102 I believe is not over rated. It is a great figure and worth the retail price. Robot mode is better that altmode and is great for posing. I do like the altmode it does have its flaws. If you can get it at retail price don’t buy it at scalpers price. It’s worth the retail price.

Im sorry but I cant agree with you on ss 102 optimus prime, yes he has great robot mode, but because the truck mode, he is just half good toy, half of the toy sucks, and I dont care if the robot mode have a bit backpack or something like ss 38 optimus, but that toy works in both robot and truck mode for a retail price. And I doubt Hasbro would redoo those legs but, I would be great if they take him back and redoo those legs and give us the best version of that toy, cause they gonna release him in normal box in studio series not buzzworthy, so they got the time to take him back and try to do something. And We fans would wait for that toy even though it would take a year or two to get out. If it would mean they fix it. Or they can put him in leader class to have a budget and give us toy of Elena with him, diferent head for scourge and optimus primal so it would be worth of that price, and then it would be great to pack in unmasked head for him ass well. And even though it would cost more, It would be much much much more worthy the price, than buyin 3rd party upgrade. And also if they do that the money would go to Hasbro not to another company so its win win for us fans and Hasbro. So HASBRO if you are watching and reading this(somehow) please wor on it give us that 102 optimus in leader class, rework those legs and give us in that box alternative head for optimus prime, optimus primal scourge and the figure of Elena, and also Kris. Please Hasbro.

Apologies for all my frustrations from being in the worst SS line back when i was Bayformers Connoisseur. Now I am going to share the two figures from this year I found overrated. To most people, ROTB Prime is "nothing but an improvement over 38 except for the alt mode." Have these people posed the figure? He has terrible shoulders that were done better the first time, and hips that only move forward for no reason. The ankles are also missing articulation, but it at least is tolerable. Then there's Scourge, who's biggest problem is his QC, and not his basis on old promo art. The QC is horrid as you could be extremely careful and shear off half of the alt mode's door. Annoying.
