A lot of times, certain members of a group does less lead than others. Not because they don't have the ability to, but because they may "hold or carry" the background vocals. Bobby Jones once said that exact thing about Francine Belcher when someone asked him why she didn't do more leads. I can see how Delores could have been the soprano that held the background vocals as soprano for the Caravans. Her voice is so strong and clear. Many sopranos voices get hard to understand when they sing.
