If the Gsnbare Goemon series was released today, it would be a smash in the west because of the off the wall humor and how uncompromisingly Japanese it is. Unfortunately in the mid 1990s, the west just was not ready for it.

@@Oriandu considering a few of the other "Extremely Japanese with extremely Japanese humor" games like Yakuza and shows like Gintama are a huge hit, there's no reason why it wouldn't be. Goemon died in the west due to atrocious localization and lack of marketing.

If you haven't played Mystical Ninja on the N64, do so. It was definitely one of those games that fell through the cracks because it's unashamedly Japanese and may feel too foreign. But for those who want a great game with a fantastic soundtrack this is it. One of the greats.

The only negative with the game is it required a memory pak to save your game. I bought one specifically to save this game - that I rented - over a few weekends. Great game on N64 especially for pre Ocarina of Time

I only rented and played the game once back in 1999, but I never forgot the opening theme nor "I Am Impact." If that isn't a testament to solid music composition then I don't know what is.

In the anime, it's revealed that Impact is normally the size of an action figure. He grows when Goemon sounds the conch horn he carries around. Also, the original vocalist for this song was Ichirou "Anikii" Mizuki, the man who sang massive chunk of the combined mecha anime and super sentai openings catalog. He left this world in December of 2022 at 74 years old.

Thank god i played this game in my childhood. I had a memory pak: nonetheless i actually got stuck at the second power minigame at 8 yo. I left it in a corner. Four years later, after a dream in which i could see a snow village filled with charm (i foresaw the festival village) i picked the game again and finished it. I can remember going outside with my eyes full of tears. One of the greatest emotions in my sweet years. Thank you japan, thank you nintendo, thank you konami.

I’ve not played the original (only those on the N64) and want to play others- so I don’t know if it’s original or recycled- but regardless- it had a great impact on the finale! The first time I heard this, I messaged a friend of mine who is a big Kamen Rider / Sentai fan. "Ever wondered what Mystical Ninja 64 would have sounded like as a tokusatsu show?" ...and then I thought about it, and the damned game WAS a tokusatsu show. Monster of the week style town invasion, wacky themed villain group, BIG ASS ROBOTS, more towns to save, POWER UP CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, friends to recruit (one is a ninja AND a girl AND a cop! the other is a ninja AND an amnesiac AND a tiny robot), onoes the guy we're fighting is merely a lieutenant, THEY HAVE STOLEN PART OF JAPAAAAAAN (つづく...) More power up character development, MORE ROBOTS, oh shit the real bad guys are just weird incompetent kabuki dancers BUT THEY ALSO HAVE A ROBOT, yay we saved the day but onoes the bad guys had groupies and now they're pissed at us for saving the world, and we still owe the ramen guy money for messing up his shooooooop~!
