I mean heel toe technique for every bit I do faster assure the double for full leg motion. Heel toe in the long run gets more comfortable for max speed and at the same time is a great warm out for full leg motion.

usually drummers have a point where they switch techniques like full leg motion on slow, ankle on medium, swivel or double strokes and other fast speed techniques... that is usually where some drummers may change the BPM of a song if they can't or change the bass drum's number of hits (like triplets, normal quads, quintuplets...) to keep the same BPM! some times it feels cooler cause it is faster but in reality it is done because the drummer is more comfortable playing faster!

The weird zone between 140 - 160 when if you use ankles, you felt without control, but if you use the hip flexor, you feel like they're on fire all the time. I'm working on it with ankle weights to increase the speed while using only the hip flexors, and while using only the ankles, I try to place the foot back of the footboard, to teach the calf muscles to increase its contraction. Obviously is more easy to say it, than do it, but that's what seem to help me on those mid tempos.

ah, 140-160 is the weird zone for my ankles as well!!

@jorgeeduardozamoraacosta8627 5 жыл бұрын
@@almadaestudios I'm still workin' on it, but every day it gets better and better. The funny thing is that on those tempos you really need strenght on the calve muscle (if you use the ankle motion), and also strength on the hip flexor (if you use full leg motion - flat foot). Personally on 140 I prefer use the full leg motion, and on 150 I switch to the ankles. But is just my preference, is not a must do.
@almadaestudios
@almadaestudios 5 жыл бұрын
@@jorgeeduardozamoraacosta8627 I hear ya. I just go full leg from zero to 160. Then ankles all the way to my max. My prob with the 140-160 was because ankles play sloppy (for me) at these tempos. Instead of beating on it, I just switched to full leg, was easier to re-learn

Same technique I use, I kept losing patience trying to learn double strokes and this way just feels comfortable and natural.

I have a similar issue, I'm at about 150 or 160 full leg, but with heel toe doubles I can play at like 230 or more. I need to go back and get more comfortable with ankle motion as well. One thing I did recently that's been helping my playing overall is that I greatly increased my beater angle and loosened the spring quite a bit. It allows me to bury the beater if I want to rather than fighting the spring. I get a larger beater throw and my double strokes are also louder and more controllable. This is how Dave Lombardo and Max Kolesne set their pedals and those guys are masters of ankle technique with lots of power.
@TheWitchOvAgnesi
@TheWitchOvAgnesi 5 жыл бұрын
I've been using this technique for awhile now, I just refer to it as (true) heel down (my heel is firmly sitting on the heel plate). But I also practice it at speeds lower than 150 bpm (from 100-150 actually). While I still mainly use full leg motion for those tempos, I find it much easier to execute triplet or quad patterns while playing heel down as a result. If nothing more, just practicing with ankle at those slow speeds will increase dexterity and control (it is way harder than you think). It's also a great way to warm up the feet and getting your mind and muscles focusing on precision and evenness. In the process of learning and experimenting with this technique, I noticed that there are not a lot of drummers out there who tackle the range of 180-200 in songs. They'll either play a slower 6/8 pattern or a faster one. I wonder why that is...? LOL I started on this journey using old, first generation Iron Cobra pedals and it was a struggle. But then months ago I switched to the Demon Drives that you use and suddenly this technique was immensely easier. You're entering a new level and dimension of perfection young grasshopper!!!

I'm learning the same thing you're doing, plus the swivel. However, I would like to know exactly *how* you practice double bass speed. I usually put the metronome above my comfort zone and try to nail 4 notes with both feet. Then after I'm confident with that, I add 4 notes plus another to make 8, and so 8 + 8 and 16 + 16, ect. How do you do it? And any methods you have on whipping that douchey left foot into shape would be appricated too.
