When I saw all the bad reviews on rotten tomatoes I thought the ending was that he would never get her back. That would have made probably depressed. People whose job is to watch movies don't know anything. This is some of the best acting I have ever seen!

This scene upsets me. CPS doesn’t (has never) actually care about families. They only care about how much money they can make. More often than not they’re taking kids out of great families to put them into horrible ones. Every story I’ve heard makes it sound like CPS is on a power trip that people are unable to stop. In the rare situations that the agent cares, they are invalidated and ignored.

Regardless of how you feel of what points of view on this issue if this scene didn’t rip you to shreds on the inside then you are spineless and soul less. Michelle saying ‘no you do you’re job lady” with one hand gesture means so much. Great movie. But hurts to watch.

My son was taken away just like this. An now i wont be able to ever see him again. But to stumble across this at a moment like this.. All i can do is cry. This movie took on a different meaning to me from when i first watched it years ago until the day i ran across it later in life. An all i can say is.. I know how if feels and why men kill thier childs mother when it comes to thier kids.

If you consider the assumptions upon which this court decision was made, it's completely ridiculous. No matter how big of a house I have or how many presents I give, if I don't show love to a child, he or she will be miserable. Also, who the heck can provide ANYBODY with "everything in the world"? Just because Sam can't doesn't mean others can. And what loving father wouldn't think so? Leave it to the court to judge everything. Sometimes they forget there's a reason computers aren't presidents.

A lot of people seem to miss the point why she's taken away, they are not heartless, Sam is physicaly and mentaly unable to take care of her, she's a very small child and she's already way smarter than him, of course it's not his fault, he was born that way, he was born sick, with his brain scrambled up and left barely functioning, would you ever let someone like Sam actually rise a child? Yes he's kind and harmless but he literaly cannot think or even take care of himself, let alone a child, children need education, proper parenting, children need someone SMARTER than them to teach them things, and Sam simply isn't, that's just reality, she would not be happy with him, sooner or later she would be rising him instead of him rising her

It seems like it has fine performances, but Sean Penn and lil' ol' Dakota are the only ones giving natural performances. The rest of the movie does linger on oversentimentalism. Some other movies are visual, while this one gives a lot of oversentimentalism in everything. I mean...didn't anyone remember Rain Man or Forrest Gump? This maybe just took itself too seriously.
