You kind of see why 11 does a lot these speeches when you look at his run and the reveal that he is on his last regeneration of his cycle. As far he knows this is it and he is tired in a way of all this. This is his "Come at me bro!" speech. He's beaten them all before and I think he figures if this is really his last life, he wants them to remember him, that even at his lowest he has been more of a match for them (trap or not, and I think they forgot for a second). Its like his last will and testament to his enemies.

Part of what makes this speech seem weird for me is that it doesnt really hold up. All those armed guns would easily obliterate doctor where he stands. They know it, doctor knows it. This is also part of what i liked more about 9-10th doctor series writing. It was more consistent with the rules of the doctor who universe. Those series were intense, doctor wasnt some supreme being, if anything just a very intelligent human-like creature. He was subject to same dangers and all those made everything feel more natural and logical. Different universe and rules or not, you dont simply turn away armies by just giving a fancy speech. That my friends, is just bad writing imo. It feels like this moment was just too "forced" to be a cool fancy moment. In reality its just unrealistic (realistic- by the realism of the doctor who universe, not ours).

They know none of them can kill the doctor, so they devised a way to keep him trapped forever so they never had to worry about him ever again. The timelords and the daleks (two of the most powerful species in the universe) great time war ended because of the doctor killed them all... unarmed. The most secretive and most stealthiest race in all of the universe, the silence, created an assassin just to kill the doctor, yet he managed to marry River. He personally ended the universe and created it again. Even without time travel, he protected the earth from extraterrestrials. He managed to survive an attempt of being erased from history. In many languages, the word "doctor" means "warrior." And even the oldest legend in the universe, the oldest question brought upon by intelligence, was his legend. The legend, the oldest question of "doctor... who?"

everyone always hating on Moffat for making the series all one giant continuos ark, but I rather liked it and it was rather refreshing from the old way of everything coming together for the last 2-3 episodes. Mind you it's not the first time a series has truly all been connected, They key to time season 16, fourth doctor and introducing Romana, that was all one huge ark.

Not really. Their plan was actually to put him in it, not take it. While I love The Doctor, this time he was duped and he let his arrogance trick him into thinking he had the upper hand. This may be the greatest speech in Doctor Who and even Television as a whole but it's a placebo, not necessary, void because the enemies knew they had him. He defeated himself lol AND STILL WON!
