The first time I saw and heard this song was at a gay bar in Phoenix, Az. I was 26 just out of college (I was on the 6 year program for a 4 year degree.) I saw a masculine man start to sing this song and transform into a beautiful drag queen star by the end. It was magical. Coming from Montana this was gay Disneyland come to life! I’m proud of him and myself for my 40 some years of being a proud gay man and supporter of our community. When I was young, I knew of drag, but I did not know of Transgender. So now that it’s only been approximately 15 years since I met my first trans man that I even begin to understand it so I guess what I’m saying is that we are never too old to learn acceptance tolerance whatever you wanna call it but what I call it is learning. Have just watched this again. It is truly astonishing. Yes, a little bit of musical direction is needed in the final moments, but to present such a mature interpretation of this iconic Broadway tune is remarkable. A powerful voice; a powerful presence. So here in my hometown we are currently rehearsing la cage six folles. I was in tears after watching this! The emotion- well done! I was also speechless. Our director told the man playing Albin that if done correctly you can bring everyone to their knees. This young man did that... Kudos to you and your future in singing, theatre, yada yada yada!
