About This Video
*****
The Wild Horse 200 is a 200 mile ultra marathon set in the stunning mountains of South Wales, taking adventurers from Chepstow on the Wales Coast Path to Worms Head on the Gower.
In this story, we follow along with some of the runners as they toe the line of this epic adventure.
www.wildhorse2...
"We could tell you that this is the toughest challenge on the planet and we’d be absolute jerks. This 200 mile adventure is very much achievable with the right approach. We take great personal pride in going above and beyond to help each and every runner progress along the course.
All in all you have 120 hours (5 days) to complete a 200 mile trail run across South Wales. The longest it has taken someone to complete the course is 116 hours. The route has approx 30,000 feet of climbing. It’s one life changing adventure across the trails and mountains of South Wales, along Offa’s Dyke, traversing the Beacons Way before catching the Heart Of Wales Line on to the Wales Coast Path and finish line at Worm’s Head.
The race is well supported with aid stations serving food and drink, sleep stations, a skilled medical team, live tracking of runners, and unique finisher buckles as well as other Wild Horse swag to take home… After running 200 miles."

One of your very best Martin. My heart went out to these runners the further they went. It was great to see the kindness, tenderness and support offered by the volunteers and support crews too.

One of the best volunteer teams i've ever seen, the belief they had for the runners was something else. Glad you enjoyed it and as always, thanks for the kind words, means a lot!

Loved this. Thanks for putting it all together, and of course for slogging it out there with us! Now that I've seen Sam's conversation near the end, I get the name of the film, and it makes so much sense. Great choice for the title, and it really rings true (what he said).

I know, such a tough section, went through an entire night but i bet she had the biggest high of anyone at that first indoor checkpoint. To be fair she was laughing and smiling each time I saw her, what a trooper.

Great Video! how much did you train for this? Elevation or distance? Now having ran it what would be the most important? I'm going for it this year!
@trailrunningforlife
@trailrunningforlife 10 ай бұрын
I was one of the runners in this one. The best tip I can give you, is to keep going on moving forward when the going gets tough (and it will). Training-wise I guess everyone is different in their approach, but most important for the Wild Horse 200 I think is ensuring you get decent elevation training in on similar terrain. That doesn't mean do elevation on a treadmill or a stair stepper, but real terrain elevation. This will condition your legs far better. I personally averaged around 6000 to 8000m each month of ascent and descent in my trail running. My personal mileage was maybe 300-400km each month of running and I made sure to have at least one long trail run every week. (Of course don't go out and suddenly start pumping out higher mileage and elevation if you haven't gradually built up to and approached it). Look after your feet. You're probably quite likely to get blisters. Treat them well at checkpoints/aid stations and stop if you need to sort them out. Make sure you're keeping on top of your hydration and nutrition (I failed to do so with only 13 miles remaining and it cost me about 2-3 hours of recovery and slowed to walking - see me sitting on the rock recuperating in the video!) There will be times where the going gets tough, and it feels like a slog or that time has slowed to a standstill. You need to look past this and keeping moving forward as there will be times where you're having fun and loving it. Keep pushing to enjoy those good moments that will come back!

I cant speak for those that did it, but personally on multi-day adventures and races i've done that lasted longer than 24 hours I try to listen for wildlife, see how nature is "speaking" to me, think about them for a bit. Also a lot to think about in terms of nutrition, how fast i'm going, have i eaten enough, drank enough and that is a recurring theme I have on long races. Thanks for watching!
