I am worried but hopeful for Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Hey all! Just wanted to talk about why am I worried but also excited for this game. I think it looks great, but the initial trailer still scares me for the tone of the game. Please comment down below your thoughts! Let's talk.

I kinda agree about Inquisition great story but the chores were too much. It's funny how people really like different ones. My favourite is DA2 haha

You play all of them, power through some of the bland aspect like outdated combat, cuz the stories and world amazing

They are great, but the combat it outdated. Origins has one of the best rpg stories ever tho.

I just finished Origins and realized how much I loved Roleplaying capabilities there Then I went into DA2 and ended with Yes (Good guy) Yes (Sarcastuc) and Yes (Bad guy) I want silent protagonist for these types of games

"They should be fired." 😂 that got me haha, i agree and had a LOT of the same thoughts after the trailer. Dragon Age has always been and should be a bloody, gruesome, dramatic, dark fantasy story game. I dont know how they can get things so twisted after all our years of feedback 👀

Yea me either, it's crazy. Inquisition was already a step in the wrong direction visually, why make an even bigger misstep haha

On the skill thing they confirmed you only get 3 in combat the other 6 are for the 2 party members

Yes we only get 3 skills to chose, but we get other on different keys that are fixed.

I'm not sure how you see even the gameplay trailer and think it's gritty, let alone darker than even Inquisition. Inquisition was darker than anything we've seen. And it's not just the artstyle.. the way Verric talks to Solas is very "hahahahaha so quippy" and not in a way that feels earned. All the enemies look copy/pasted... And I feel like the intro trailer with the companions wasn't a "one-off" mistake. That is probably the tone of the game.

Inquisition was darker than anything we've seen? Wait what? You mean it's darker and better in that department than DAO Deeproads with the Broodmother? Tell me what you smoking because I might need that shit, only actual places where Inquisition had that "Dark Fantasy" tone was in the Fade or in The Descent DLC. All the enemies look copy/pasted? Wait what good sir? Venatori are Venatori they're an organisation which is supposed to have similar equipment, it's called uniform standarisation mind you. The Demons look the same because wait? E V E R Y Dragon Age game had the same looking Demons, they changed the look of them because of some "Lore" reason and every Demon looking the same is the same as other DA titles. People need to tone down about the companion showcase trailer, did it kill your mother with your sibling inside her or what? It was a c o m p a n i o n s h o w c a s e, not a gameplay showcase, not a story showcase, a literal companion showcase which is just supposed to show you your companions for the game not the fucking tone. From what Bioware is saying they're aiming for a mix of DAO and Inquisition tone wise and I see that and I'm happy with that. Gore and finishers (Finishers were absent for 2 games now) are confirmed to return it was probably turned off for the gameplay showcase. Don't like it? Don't fucking play it and stop complaining about it without valid criticism, I'll laugh my ass off when it turns out to be one of the best acclaimed games this year because Bioware actually looks like they care about this game and aren't forced to make an MMO shit stain with an open world. Bioware is fucking back!

It does look gritty compared to inquisition in my opinion, the story looks dark, the zones looked hopeless. And inquisition was the KING of quip, there was almost a marvel style retort from every character to what you say. We don't know for certain if the first trailer is the tone, hence why I am excited but also worried for the game. It has a chance to be amazing, or total dog water.

@@erikirgens4260 Even in that regard Minrathous looks more dark in comparison to DAI, like I said in my previous comment DAI had like 2 places where you could feel the "Dark Fantasy" truly and they weren't even on the surface (Like you actually have to try to fuck up Deeproads, thank the Gods they didn't, same with the Fade) or in a material place. They aim to strike a balance between DAO and DAI, from what I can see they are doing it well. We gotta wait till release if other locations look as good as Minrathous (Which is just as I imagined from what Dorian was talking about it)

I hated the first trailer, was not really hyped after the gameplay trailer. But with every artikel that come out i am more and more excited.

DA:O type of combat definitely works in 2024. Look at the success of Larian's BG3 and Div:OS games, as well as Owlcat's Pathfinder games and Obsidian's Pillars of Eternity series, just to name a few. Combat in this one look like "ME: Andromeda in medieval times", which doesn't really work, in my opinion, since as a melee character, you are constantly jumping around the screen and dodging red circles on the ground, to be able to control you party properly, like you can in ME:A with its ranged combat. Agree with you on DA:I, though. Actually consider it one of the worst working AAA games ever made.

I agree when it's turned based, I lobe turn based games. But the way origins handles it is auto attacks, then use abilities when you have the mana for them. It's slow and would need a lot of reworking to make it viable in 2024. Otherwise I completely agree with you, I just simply meant how origins handles it's combat. MA Andromeda is just trash tho, it focused on flashy over substance, so im hoping this game is more focused on timing and abilities being important.

Okay your idea of success and EA idea of success aren't the same. Obsidian even cut Pillars and makeing avowed (action rpg) now. Pathfinder haven't enough buier for a full voiced game. So yes BG3 have the success but it is TB and it have Early Acess.
