I think you made a good decision! I am in my first year of medical school and having to take out loans for medical school tuition has made me so grateful that I don’t have any debt from undergrad. You will do great and Texas is the best state to be premed with how much Texas medical schools favor in-state applicants, good luck!

Hi. Great video. I'm a MS3 here in Texas and I have to say you made some great insights. Traditional med student if that means anything to you. You are right in that the premed process can be quite stressful. Juggling classes, extracurriculars, shadowing, volunteer, studying for the MCAT, life, family, friends, research, professor relationships and/or anything I missed. But nowhere in this huge list of important application items is where you went to college. It composes 1 singular line in your application which says where your credits are from. That is it. Me personally, I went to a pretty no-name undergraduate college and I still made it as well as many of my friends. (I also have friends here in med school who graduated from UTD). I think for high school students who are interested in medicine and are wondering where to go to for college. My biggest piece of advice is to not sweat the IVY league programs, or the MS/MD programs or whatever. If you get accepted, great. But honestly, just go somewhere that you think you can be successful at. I applied to just 2 schools. UT Austin and the place I ended up going to. I figured that Ivy League was just not in the books for me given my SAT and resume. And I felt that everywhere else was pretty much equivalent, in terms of 'prestige'. (There are nuances to this. Eg. UT affiliated med schools tend to accept a lot from UT Austin. BUT, that could just be because they have high volume). So I thought about it and I felt that I would get lost and lose focus at UT Austin. The smaller school (

Congrats on your journey as a premed! I also graduated high school last year and will be starting med school in India. It’s really surprising and a bit disheartening to hear about the numerous BS/MD program rejections despite your impressive stats, but I’m confident you’ll excel and stand out in college. In India, we don't have a premed system; instead, admission to med school is based on a competitive exam that about 2.5 million students take each year, with the top 25k being selected. I plan to apply for a medical residency in the US after finishing med school, which is about five years away. Let’s stay focused and work hard to become great doctors. Also, you’ve gained a new subscriber-looking forward to more awesome content on your channel!

Is a 97.5% a 4.0 GPA? I am kind of confused by the GPA scale and if you could explain it to me that would be helpful. Also, is it feasible to want to start research and compete in science fairs as a sophomore who has yet to find a mentor to help with this research?
@premed_georgeАй бұрын
So a 4.0 GPA basically means you had all As in high school. your weighted GPA is calculated with grades you receive from each class all weighted differently depending on the difficulty of the class. while ur unweighted gpa is just ur standard 4.0 scale gpa. but keep in mind that different schools have diff ways of calculating. hope this helps!

Why not attend the cheapest and least competitive school for undergrad with the easiest major? The undergrad school is unimportant as it’s all about the gpa and mcat scores.

Both of those guys suck to be honest. They're just leeching off the fact that they were privileged and got really lucky with some stuff in high school and sell a false narrative that there's a clear cut route to a top tier education (ie an Ivy League, T20). Guys like George don't get recognized though even though they're more genuine and actually show how the application cycle really is though because it's not as click baity.
