I ask random Costa Ricans about 'Latinx' (reaction)

Is the woke buzzword "Latinx" something Latinos actually use? Or is Latinx offensive? I asked some random Costa Ricans for their thoughts.

Latinx is nothing but an American invented term. Now if you were use the term "Latine" many Latin American will recognize it due the a piece of history that goes back to Emperor Napoleon III. Latine is merely French for Latin and French Latin Americans use it quite often in the Francophone enclaves in Latin America, French Guiana, Brazil and Argentina all which significant amounts of French speakers.

The main issue with the x is it's not even a vowel so it like breaks the rules or any kind of sense on spoke spanish. The "e" is better but nor necessary because a gender can express any gender and acts abstracted, for example: las personas masculinas (los hombres) ...btw as a costarican myself this videi is beyond hilarious hahahaha you made my day thanks 🤣

Hahaha I'm Costa Rican and I just wanna say that there's a song that every single latino knows, it's our party song and it unites us as family, it's called Latinos by Proyecto Uno, you play that song and every latino will proudly sing "Dime si son latinos"

What I find weird is we pronounce "latinx" like an English word, not Spanish. We tend to put the accent on the first syllable: LA-tin-x. Spanish puts the accent on the second: la-TI-no or la-TI-na. To be consistent, it should be la-TI-nex. If we're going to make up a word, can we at least pretend to pronounce it like a native Spanish speaker might?

There is no words in spanish that reflect on the "latinx"(it should be pronounced something as "látinks", btw). Because of that some people prefer to express "latin(e)", it has some resemblance with adjetives like "inteligent(e)" that stays the same with both, male and female genders.

Latino is not even used in Latin America so this video makes no sense. Latino is used more in the USA it’s a term created there. Nobody in Latin America refers to themselves like that.

I live in a large Spanish-speaking community and I have had Latino friends since I was a toddler. No one I know says Latinx. They say Latino, Latina, Hispanic. That's it. However, I can see how the buzzword Latinx would be validating, empowering, or more comfortable for some in the LGBTQ+ community.

If my memory serves me, the letter X is Phoenician in origin. The letter certainly isn't native to Castilian Spanish. Words adopted to the language are the only ones with the letter. Xilófono, xenón, etc... the sound is more of an "S" in these instances. México... the X is like a "HE" sound And where it is placed in "latinx"... the sounds like a "KS" not "EX"... "Latinks" 😂
