Here's an idea: Read the Bible, where Jesus said the child rape was unforgivable in Matthew 18:6-14, and that anyone supporting it will get eternal damnation. That obviously means every catholic. Add in another bonus from the Bible, where Jesus said blasphemy was unforgivable (Mark 3:28), but catholics used God to get away with their rampant child rape, committing the worst blasphemy possible. Then see the Oscar-winning movie "Spotlight", based on the book "Betrayal: Crisis in the Catholic Church". It's about an organized crime syndicate of child rape, which used all of its money and power (including the power of God) to get away with running the largest known child rape cult in human history by hiding 249 pedophile priests in the city of Boston alone. Now we know that the Catholic Church is the largest child rape cult internationally, too. In fact, 330,000 little boys in France were raped by 3,000 catholic pedophile priests, and it barely made the news, because people EXPECT that from catholics. That is not a typo. Catholics raped 330,000 little boys in a country which is the size of Texas. And of course, in the United States, it was much worse. What none of these books make clear is what Jesus said, which is that child rape is unforgivable (Matt 18:6-14), and everyone supporting it will get eternal damnation.

Hi Elizabeth, I had subscribed to your channel a while ago but I am just recently watching some of your videos, they are really nice and I think that the little book worm cartoon is really cute. For my top Catholic books I would say that they are: 1) the Divine comedy 2) Confessions 3) the summa I have only fully read the Divine comedy, but Confessions made me cry which is why I love it so much (St Augustine is my confirmation saint) and the Summa is more a consultation book. The summa is my go to for many almost all my theological questions!

Since no one seems to have mentioned Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, I have to mention two of his books, Life of Christ and Three To Get Married that are must reads. If you've never heard of him, here is a link to a video on him, starting with a bit of his humor before the intro: (kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZjOZaCaja2medk) In addition, I would add Practice Of The Presence of God by Brother Lawrence (though finding a good translation that doesn't cut parts out of it can be difficult), Abandonment To Divine Providence by Jean Pierre de Caussade, The Way of Perfection by Teresa of Avilla, Consecrating the World: On Mundane Liturgical Theology by David W. Fagerberg, The Struggle for Virtue: Asceticism in a Modern Secular Society by Archbishop Averky Taushev, The Three Conversions in the Spiritual Life Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange, and The Contemplative by Fr. Donald Haggerty. I'd also like to say how great it is that the first book you reviewed was the Introduction To The Devout Life, as that is always the book I point people to when they are seeking to learn about the spiritual life.

@@BiblicalBookworm I do get what Siderum means. If you check out Joseph Pearce (Catholic convert and literary critic ?) speaking about it on YT he picks out the hidden depths of Brideshead beautifully. Fiction though it is, it is heavily based on the autobiographical experience of Evelyn Waugh. Including the central deathbed confession scene, criticised by some cynics as sentimental, Waugh described it as “reportage” of a real life incident he had been privileged to witness. It’s upper class setting narrows it’s appeal these days but what a read, and it stays with you. Loved your video btw. My first time and I’ve subscribed.

It's certainly no theological work like some of the others listed that will *really* impact your faith and help you to grow in holiness, but (at least for me and many others I know) it is an incredibly inspiring distillation of the Catholic experience in the 'modern' world. Someone (I cannot recall whom at the moment) said of Brideshead that it is primarily a novel about grace (and vocation). It's certainly one of the best novels I have ever read, and, as Peter Holloway said, it somehow stays with you through a strange melancholic nostalgia. I *highly* recommend it; however, I must say, do NOT be scandalised by some of what is contained! Brideshead Revisited has to be taken as a whole; in other words, you have to see the whole picture of the story before you to understand it. There are some less pleasant aspects to the story (and morally noxious to Catholics), but the point is how God's grace works even amongst the disordered parts of human life. On a side note, if you're looking for a more 'epic' read, I highly recommend another of Evelyn Waugh's works, the Sword of Honour trilogy. It's a bit less overtly Catholic on the whole than Brideshead and may be a bit too military for some, but the ultimate point of that work is also the Catholic faith, and it contains one of the best modern lessons about vocation I know!

Hi Biblical Bookworm 🙂 I love your channel. Can't wait for you to read Dark knight of The Soul. There is a lot I have to read still. I finished my novel, it's short historical fiction based in Egypt. After the pyramids were built, before the practice of mummies. This is a health is found in the lowest places, slow burn, psychological read without big words. By the end the main character is not exactly the character who the reader was following through the story. The psychological/spiritual aspect is, if your not alive your not a human being. Kind of intense, and a little deep... As a Catholic I'm not sure what to make of it, I spent over 3 years on it, sent it out 5 months ago to 60 literary agents and got ghosted. Beginning the task of finding someone to give me a reaction. I am wondering if you, or anyone you may know may be interested in reading it, just for initial thoughts, if it makes sense, did anything stick out... Or if it is too boring I would not be offended if it were put down. Not a review just an email exchange: I will check back here over the next few weeks for permission to email. If you don't respond, please I understand. I will continue to watch and subscribe. Thanks. By the way your channel came up on my algorithm from watching For Mark Goring, Bishop Robert Baron, Matt Fradd, Mathew Kelly, Acention Presents, The Catholic Talk Show, Church Militant, Mother and refuge of The End Times... @@BiblicalBookworm I read it during my reconversion around the time I was also thinking about the greatest commandment according to Jesus, namely to love God above everything. I wondered how one could love God without having met him like another person. So what followed was a desire to get to know God better. For me and I think in general in the modern Zeitgeist it is tempting to get to know God via the purely rational/logical path (just by thinking i.e. Aquinas 5 ways). While this is good, alone it is insufficient to get to know someone to your fullest capacity and build a relationship. Next I realized that one can grow in love for God, by noticing that God already loves you (i.e. by seeing all the good that God creates, how he leads us etc.). Now in this way you are still taking a detour to God via creation. The book is about directly approaching God and growing in love through your desire for Him, by 'forgetting' creation behind you and approaching the great mystery we call God in front of you. To sum up my experience, the book invited me to rethink my purely rational approach and incorporate the sort of contemplative prayer described by the author. Unreleated to this book I have another recommendation that maybe you have heard of already called "Crossing the Threshold of Hope" by Pope St. JPII.

I was surprised how good I was drawn into the characters. The other books are called House of Gold And conceive with out sin I’d read them in the writer’s publishing order . I just realized Bud has a 4th book out know. I always thought it was just the 3 ..

Hi Elisabeth, Can you please do book recommendations for Catholic kids?. they don't have to be theological. My 9yo daughter is devouring books. I'm trying to monitor everything she reads but at this point I cannot keep up. I feel like I need to read kids books constantly because I don't want her exposed to certain books that are anti Christian, immoral etc.

Ok ok interesting question. I'm not sure if the following books are interesting for someone who's 9 years old but if she's too young for them now at some point she'll be older: -Sherlock Holmes -Agatha Christie -Percy Jackson -Ruby Red Trilogy -Gulliver’s Travels -The Maze Runner (I watched the movie and I liked it but depending on your daughter's taste it might be too scary) -books by Luca Novelli (I personally read the book about Marie Curie but that's not available in English; I'm sure that his other books about science are equally fascinating) I didn't like and don't recommend the Hunger Games. I personally found the Lord of the Rings boring. I was not allowed to read Harry Potter. The Twilight series might be problematic - I've watched the movies and I'm not sure if that was a good idea. When I was her age I mostly read comics 😅😂

I would recommend the wingfeather saga and the chronicles of narnia (the ones with a movie adaptation are probably the most entertaining and understandable for a child), both of these sagas have christian values but in fantasy settings. Heidi is also a good one and even though is a classic the protagonist is 5 so is easy to read! Easier books: "Picture books of saints" is a good one to learn about different saints, and a cool graphic novel is The Legend of Saint Christopher, Quest for a King

Depending on her tastes and level, the old Vision books (lives of Saints) and the Louis de Wohl Saint novels. I'd be careful with the Percy Jackson books. The first series is pretty fine, but the following ones get more and more problematic (gay relationships, etc). Fantasy authors I discovered through Kindle Unlimited are Camille Peters, Melanie Cellier, K.M.Shea, Tara Grayce, Kenley Davidson and Deborah Grace White. Those authors are Christians, mostly writing for teens. Some of them are simpler, others tackle more mature or complex matters (family betrayal, contradictory responsibilities, etc.) Sexually, they pretty much limit themselves to kisses.

It's a pity that the Diary is so little recommended, it's unbelievable to me. So much there. Every page is a gem. It's life changing - especially the eternal life. Your and others. It's from a recent, great saint. It's urgent and specifically intended for our times. God speaks there a lot, directly and insists it's messages are super important to us. True it's not a book that should be read in a week on only once or without proper attention. By the way, what do others think about My Heart Will Triumph by Mirjana Soldo? It's very light reading and it probably could be controversial to someone, but I loved it. It's from my short list of spiritual books I wan't to reread when I'll have more time :D

I know a certain number of Catholics are skeptical of Medjugorje but I have no doubt Mother Mary has been appearing there. My best friend and I went on a pilgrimage there last year and both witnessed miracles. Countless healings and conversions have taken place there and many priests found their vocation to the priesthood there including Fr Calloway I believe. We stayed at Jacov's house who is one of the seers and met Mirjana and she gave a talk to our group. She's the most humble and holy person I've ever seen. Her talk brought me to tears and I don't cry easily. The Church has a long and slow process for approving apparitions so it's ok to believe in them before Church approval after discernment. If you can afford to go to Medjugorje and are able to, I highly recommend going. Nobody who goes there comes back the same. It changed my life and my friend's life.

Not all books that get the label 'Catholic' are actually Catholic. It's important to learn the difference. Catholics that actually know and practice their faith will spot junk like that from a mile away and stay clear. Unfortunately, it doesn't stop them from giving the rest of us a bad name. Also, just because they claim they are Catholic doesn't mean that they are. With 70,000 + publishers world wide, and the ability to self publish, there isn't any way to stop bad Catholics from publishing nonsense or straight up heresy's. Lastly, I bet if you investigated that book you would find out it wasn't written by a Catholic at all. Some of the people posting suggestions in this stream are not Catholic. There are some Seventh Day Adventists posting suggestions here.

Here are the books that have changed my life that I think every Catholic should read: 1)The Book of Heaven by Luisa Piccarreta- This is the most important book I've ever read. It's 36 volumes of revelations from Jesus to Servant of God Luisa Piccarreta about living in the Divine Will and how God sees everything. Jesus told her that this knowledge is the greatest gift He's given to mankind since His time on Earth because when we know about the Divine Will then we can love it more and begin to live in it as Adam did before he sinned. Jesus said this is the most important private revelation in the history of the Church and all the others were leading up to it and preparing us for it. 2)The Twenty Four Hours of the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ by Luisa Piccarreta- This is the second most important book I've read, and is also what Jesus revealed to Luisa Piccarreta. It's the thoughts, prayers, and feelings that Jesus prayed and experienced during His Passion. It's everything that was going on in His soul while He was suffering. I've read other private revelations about the Passion of Jesus but none give this level of insight. It's so powerful that Jesus promised Luisa that for every word we read in this book a soul will be saved and that when the chastisements come, if you're praying the Hours of the Passion, your town or city will be protected just because of that. 3)The Virgin Mary in the Kingdom of the Divine Will by Luisa Piccarreta- This is a series of messages given to Luisa Piccarreta by Mother Mary where She teaches us how to live in the Divine Will. It's meant to be done as a consecration to the Divine Will for a month. No other book has brought me closer to Mother Mary than this book because She shows how tender and loving She is and gives us a personal lesson on how to live in the Divine Will as She always has. 4)The Warning by Christine Watkins- This book was life changing for me because the Warning will change the world and our lives forever. I know that many Catholics haven't heard about the Warning, but it will be a worldwide event that happens before the coming chastisements where time will stop and God will reveal Himself to every soul and show them all the good and bad they've done in their lives and the truth about everything including the Catholic Church. It's been predicted by many visionaries and saints for centuries including St Faustina in her diary. It has always given me hope because it reminds me that no matter how bad things get on Earth and in my life, this event will happen in my lifetime and it will heal the souls and bodies of the faithful while illuminating our consciences and bringing us closer to God. We can't know the exact date and shouldn't worry about that, but we can know it'll happen in our lifetime. Exactly one year after the Warning a miracle will happen at Garabandal and several other Marian apparition sites around the world, and Mother Mary gave the date of this miracle to the seer Conchita, who will announce it to the world 8 days in advance. Conchita is 72 years old, and several Catholic writers I respect believe the Warning is likely to happen within the next five years because many of the things Mother Mary said would happen before the Warning are happening right now like the return of global communism, famine, war, and division in the Church. After the Warning, millions of people will know that the Catholic Church is the one true Church Jesus founded and will become Catholic, including Jews and Muslims. The world will change forever because now nobody can deny the truth of God's existence and of the Catholic Church, although there will still be plenty of people who reject God and will claim that the Warning was a solar flare or some crazy physiological phenomenon that has nothing to do with God. These are the people who are so hardened that nothing will convince them that God exists or that they should change their lives. But many people will convert and the world will never be the same. I look forward to that day with great hope and anticipation. 5)The Crown of History: The Imminent Glorious Era of Universal Peace by Daniel O'Connor- This is a book by Daniel O'Connor who is an expert on the writings of Luisa and is probably my favorite Catholic author because he's a brilliant writer who understands spiritual things very deeply and lives the Catholic faith boldly. It's based on the revelations of Jesus to Luisa about the Era of Peace, which is the time after the persecution of Christians by the antichrist when the antichrist has been defeated and the Catholic Church will be reborn and restored and be more glorious than ever before. It's when the Our Father will be fulfilled and most people on Earth will live in the Divine Will, so it'll be like Heaven on Earth. 6)The Holiness of Womanhood and all books written by Mary Kloska- I believe Mary Kloska is a living saint. She's dedicated her life to God and has spent her life as a hermit serving the poor people of Russia and other countries. She's filled with the Holy Spirit and understands divine things better than anyone I've read about. Her book on womanhood is changing the lives of men and women in Pakistan and Nigeria where she's giving it out for free to the poor people of those countries who don't understand that women are a gift from God who are equal in dignity and value to men. She has many testimonials of people saying her books are life changing and I include myself with those people.

I'm currently reading "Padre Pio: The True Story" which Fr. Benedict Groeschel said is a MUST READ. I have to say that I agree with him whole-heartedly. Why? It is a story from a very human person, not some saint floating in the clouds. He had problems like the rest of us: family struggles issues with his superiors, health problems, etc., yet he overcame it all to become a great saint. I think I love Padre Pio more now, than I ever have if only because of his humanity and what he overcame for the love of his Franciscan vocation and especially for the love of God. It also talks about life as a Capuchin in the early 20th Century. It's extremely inspirational. I'm just loving every page. Reads like it's a novel.

So let's get a couple of things straight. 1. We both know you know what a Rosary is, so don't play dumb. Being contrary for the sake of it is unattractive. Also, it's not a talisman or magical object as you implied. Or do you not know what a pentacle is? If you had actually asked a sincere question instead of a dumb one, someone would have been happy to have given you a sincere response. Instead, you chose to insult us by implying our sign of faith is idolatrous. Because that's what wearing a talisman or magical object is: idolatry. Which brings me to my 2nd point. You said you have a child in Catholic school. What kind of parent are you to allow your child to attend a school run by people you believe have these sorts of beliefs? I certainly wouldn't allow my child to attend a school where the educators taught idolatry, let alone pay for them to attend. But then again, I know the difference between a Rosary and a pentacle.
