Imo what made Shorekeeper so tragic _is_ that Rover has amnesia. She loves this person, and they are still them in a way, but they don't remember her at all. You can tell Rover feels pity for Shorekeeper's feelings towards them, and a little guilt that they have no memory of their time with her. Rover obviously feels some affection and responsibility over her, knowing that they're the one responsible for her existence. Maybe there is something deeper than that that transcends memory. Or maybe Rover is simply sympathetic towards Shorekeeper and wants to get to know her better to see how they feel about her. Either way there's a lot of layers there and it's the kind of story where actions are louder than words imo

All the characters affection for the rover ain't the same tho Jiyan is a homie kind of affection Yinlin is "A gigachad who saved me from my problem and even trusted me for the things I have done" Jinhsi is more on "The heroine that Jue predicted actually come and save my country, and even support me all the way to my battle with Jue" kind of trusted partner relation ChangLi is more about the heroine that she admires from a young age kind of affection Zhezhi and XY is "The famous heroine in my country just randomly appears and solves all my problems" kind of affection Shorekeeper is more on parent-children + teacher-student + we both will sacrifice to each other + I will be there for you, kind of affection Camellya is more on red flag, instinct-based, desperate, I would rather die if you are not in my world anymore, kind of affection.

I like all your takes and I honestly hadn't thought of them that way. They are all unique. However, I would not go as far as to blame the majority for getting harem feelings. All girls except Jinshi and Jiyan give really provocative vibes and movements on their Quests, this becomes extremely apparent on Yinlin, Shorekeeper and Camellya quests. Having shorekeeper and camellya back to back also intensifies this.

I've played Wuwa daily since launch. Started Kuro's other game PGR a few weeks ago but only in the past few days did I start to read the story and got past the week start I was left completely flabbergasted... I've not even gotten through 1/3 of everything the game has to offer but I've already been hit harder by 3 different stories (Selena,Pulao,Kowloon) than anything wuwa or any other gacha game had to offer.

i just got into HSR recently and i found the belabog quest a drag. there are moments i liked for sure but i didn't find it as amazing as some people make it sound like it is but maybe i just had too many high expectations going into it since ppl kept hyping up HSR as having an "amazing story". i like the characters and gameplay but story-wise HSR is on par with every other gacha on the market so far in my opinion, although the lore can get quite intricate (i haven't played the penecony quest yet so my opinions could change) also, before some people take my comment as me hating on HSR, it's not hate, just my genuine feelings. i like the game a lot, it's one of the gacha games i play the most recently. i just found the story underwhelming in comparison to the hype it gets. to me, so far, it's a standard gacha story, not bad but not great either. feel free to disagree, of course.

Rover DID have to go there because he is The First Instance, Time (The Shorekeeper is The Second Instance, Space). It's an area dealing with time, and the distortions of either his domain, or what he represents. In terms of understanding Rover, we got a good bit from it. 1.1 is far better than Liyue and Inazumi, Liyue was so fucking boring aside from Childe. I'm honestly surprised it's in in fab and not in mid since the only part that's good about is Childe, and the final bit. 1.3 WUWA is very easily the best. Genshin has way more yap and as a result nothing from Genshin could ever be "The Best" Also, Rover does show love towards The Shorekeeper. He shows compassion, and empathy towards everyone, and as a result brings out the best in people. However, for Rover specifically he shows sadness, and sorrow for his lost memories of Shorekeeper. He showcases that he feels sorrow for the loss of emotions he had with The Shorekeeper. We were constantly regaining our memories, and regaining our feelings for The Shorekeeper. It isn't just The Shorekeeper showing romance. The Rover does show emotion, and it's made even more apparent with the Camellya in how differently he treats Shorekeeper vs Camellya. Rover's reactions are all subtle, and this makes sense. Rover is someone who is thousands or even millions of years old, who existed before Physics were rewritten. He doesn't feel much of anything, but he actively makes the choice to do good which is what makes Rover compelling to me. Additionally, the fact we see actual emotion from Rover is these cutscenes, the only character that made Rover feel any emotion other than "It's just a feeling I have, it's my duty, it's the right thing to do." You're not taking into account that Rover is immortal who has existed back when Earth was still normal. He has a more realistic approach to immorality, that being the desire to remove your memories, and also a general lack of caring as psychologically humans can only genuinely care about a certain amount of people, not at once, but throughout their entire life. Rover and Shorekeeper's love story is exceptionally tragic, and becomes more impactful when you consider how a human who is immortal would actually act. One of the main reasons he doesn't have much of an internal dialog and doesn't have strong reactions is because it's the player character, someone who's supposed to be a self-insert. In my opinion, Kuro should have just said "Fuck it we ball." and full send it with giving Rover more reactions and making it more apparent to those who even press "skip" on every character that's not their waifu/husbando. The Shorekeeper and Encore's questlines both actually made me cry, which is something I found surprising.

Wow. I cant believe the hate on Sumeru. Sumeru was so good. The character development in Sumeru was by far the most complete. The misuse if the akasha. The academia running a shadow government while imprisoning the archon who had to use professor x mind games to be freed. The desert was epic. Jhet quest is the best story arch in the game up to Fontaine. There were parts that were tiring. There was too much. But knocking the story is criminal.

i didn't like belobog either and i found that quest so unnecessary long. i almost dropped HSR bc i just wanted that quest to end and it just wouldn't end lmao. i liked bronya's character development and the fight with cocolia but that quest didn't have to be as long as it was in my opinion. i'm always afraid to say this bc HSR players praise the story so much but i found belabog's quest to be just an average gacha story. great OST, great final fight but that's about it. i wish i could understand the hype for that quest but i personally didn't like it that much.

@ this is ranking story not character design. The story arc in Liyue was very good. From the mystery of morax death, the fact the traveler assists the actual murder victim unaware planning his own funeral rites. The fatui using talismans to raise a giant sea monster to attack the city. All the factions having to put aside their political differences to combine forces to defend the city. A god stepping down and handing the fate of the city to its citizens. These are very strong plots.

Childe was the only part I actually enjoyed. The stakes were practically non-existent and relies entirely off of whether or not you like Childe and... I forgot his name, Mr. "Hey, Childe is my personal bank." It felt like such a slog to get through when Childe wasn't there. To say the story was awesome is a MASSIVE overstatement. It felt bland, standard, and safe.

The overall story in Inazuma was good, but it lacked development. They tried to do too much. Watasumi should have been added later like the chasm. I would have rather had the ayatos secretly running the resistance and have left out kokomi till later and just tied her into ekonomia.

Wuwa 1.0 was a disaster. People put up with the story because the combat was cool. Ranking it even mid is complete copium. Sumeru which you guys dissed on ran circles around 1.0 or 1.1. The bias is blind.

It definitely feels like a stretch and long leash being given yet again to the WuWa stuff that no story arc in the game can be any worse than mid apparently and better than like 75% of the Genshin/HSR stuff that seems pretty damn well received overall at least outside of this WuWa centric group. At the end of the day it's theri ranking, but you can kind of feel the agenda and bias here for sure. Would have loved to get some voices in there that aren't just from this WuWa centric group of CC's to see the differences in takes, discussion, disagreements and different ranking, but again they basically never venture much outside of their CC group safe space really so probably never gonna happen. Then again I'm not sure many of the more mainstream gacha CC's even know who this group of WuWa centric ones even are or would have any sort of chemistry with them to hook up for any sort of collab.

@ I’m an avid reader. I read everything from sci-fi fantasy to the classics. I know a well constructed story when I see one. Yes it’s set up in a way that you can deep dive into the story by playing the story quests, the character quests and not just play the major story. The story even goes deeper if you want to collect and read the hundreds of books hidden in parts across the game, and even more in depth if you wish to read all the lore hidden in artifacts and weapon descriptions. There are also random quests and NPCs who drop lore bombs. There are entire parts of the maps and caverns that you will never knew even existed as a casual player if you don’t play the world quests and side quests. Heck there is a whole separate region you can miss if you don’t bother completing a side quest in Inazuma. In Genshin you get what you’re willing to put into it. It can be super casual or an intense lore dive. It’s all there, the path need only be chosen by the player. To a casual player Venti is a silly drunk bard that likes to speak to dragons. To those willing to dig deeper he’s so much more than that and possibly one of the most important lore characters in the game. Just one example.

@@amari7782 Yeah it's so ridiculously noticeable with these WuWa Centric CC's. Sometimes Love and Deep Space comes up for whatever reason, but otherwise it's like those are the only companies whose gacha games exist and Kuro Games is always the shining beacon on the mountain, and Hoyoverse the devil figure 90% or so of the time. Like I guess the only gacha games for them come from big Chinese companies. Of all the Gacha CC's out there this British group of predominantly WuWa centric CC's has the most completely out there and biased across developer lines takes I've probably seen in the scene in the last 5-6 years or so I've been following it. Like extremely noticeably so. Also just sort of completely isolated in their own sort of pocket group unless Tectone is reacting to them again since again they mainly seem to be focusing on trying to promote Wuthering Waves above all other gacha games and bring down the main Chinese competition in Hoyoverse every chance they can find. In contrast the more established gacha game channels are just kind of more general coverage where everybody has the same standard applied to them so the takes feel pretty agreeable at least and like there's no heavily biased corporate agenda at play. It'd probably be interesting if they venture more outside of their group and had some interactions and chats with the more general gacha CC's as opposed to the WuWa centric group and where the chips fall in that sort of conversation, but they just kind of stick pretty noticeable to this niche group that they're all clearly on the same page with.

1.3 even if they answered lots of things(Our identity, the fact that it was us wo deleted our memory, Shorekeeper taking care of us since we "appeared" hinting that we travelled 20 years in the future, that we were in danger of becoming the tethys core and continue condemning souls of others in the necrostar events horizon, that we are at least a few millions years old, each cycle takes 42 days and starts from the start of the peoples life until Lament starts on any cities or Villages, counting billions of people's souls, that Shorekeeper won emotions making her elegible to be a core and she decides to sacrifice herself for how selfless she is used to be, that Abby has not appeared and is mentioned by the Shorekeeper at the end, that we had not seen Abby in any quest or content since then hinting that he either made a new core or that Abby is the core, about Rover's attitude idk, he's been millions of years with Shorekeeper, it could be that he's confy enough to not overreact or the millions of years made Rover stoic?) The problem is that we are still on early stages, so ofc we are not getting anything but hints of what could happen, Easterns like long and immersive stories and to think by themselves what can happen. Westerns are more direct and want things to be clear to not spend time. I like the story but I understand if someone does not like it for being too dense.

tbh fontaine was so boring to me almost the whole patch until the very end with, I could not stand it, only the end was very cool and that's it. It's so wild to me while when I played penacony every second was really fun and mysterious, everybody were insane and cool it was a lot of fun to me. This is crazy I guess people like when chars dying and suffer, cause I don't know what to say else.. penacony > fontaine. Even the map is is hella unique, when fontain's surfice is just mondstadt with couple of water cubes in the air.

To me they were both kinda mid especially in their mid points. Fontaine at least had the unique phoenix wright trials to make things interesting but the prison really killed its momentum. Penacony had a decent start but between firefly “death” being pure shock value and the cast doing mostly nothing throughout the story combined with aventurine taking up a whole section for absolutely nothing it ended up taking me further out of the story compared to Fontaine

@ I mean when the rest of the story is straight garbage sure but the issue is that it served no purpose and ultimately ruined any chance to develop the astral express and the following cast. Hell what was actually going on in his story was pretty mediocre because of how one sided it was to the point it felt like hoyo was screaming for players to care bout him than actually trying to tell a story. The fact that all the sacrifices he made along the way were immediately swept under the rug mad an already mediocre backstory garbage simply because there were no consequences at the end

@ I never said anything about genshin. My point is that Robin and Sunday who ended being more important really didn’t get any development for latching into same as Acheron. Hell if I wanted to bring up good character writing id bring up something like limbus company because a single character from a roster of 12 is better than the entirety of every modern hoyo game

only belobog is best, wuwa is mid except mt firmament, and 1.4 is arse, genshin is mid all arround, please, do not confuse story with lore, everything is mid, stopped playing before Fontaine, but its all mid

That's some strong words coming from a mint picker. Belobog was great but rest everything was shit, liyue was good but my god inazuma , monstad, sumeru and fontain was absolute mid. Like they created hype and killed it right after. Also 1.0 Wuwa was mid but 1.1 was epic Mt firmament was actually good unlike the samsara bs sumeru pulled off. 1.2 event was good and zheshi story was quite home for me as a fellow artist. 1.3 was emaculate it was not a fucking yapfest and it was absolute cinema. The only absolute cinema which genshit had was ningguang nuking osayal and acheron wiping the floor with adventurine.
